oh dear oh dear oh dear It makes me laugh a lot when people misuse the word indie. I don't care that much about genre labelling to be honest. I think I might be the only one. The only one that does annoy me is that every second band is "emo".

Just for clarification, the word "indie" now means everything and nothing all at once. (insert witty stuart murdoch quote that I can't find)

You mean "Indie" is not a silly way of spelling Indy, which is really a cute nickname for Indiana Jones??
Oh, my life. It is in shambles now!

Eh? I liked Slipknot. Ugh. Son, you shuld be ashamed. Errr... Muse? 'Showbiz' era. Placebo (still like) The best muse era, much better than this new stadium filling annoyingness, and better tunes, and haircuts.

I don't know if LastGoodbyes role as Rhimans online bodyguard is sweet or annoying, I'm currently leaning towards sweet.
Oh and the meaning of genre labels switches around all the time as music and the cultural landscape changes. See the meaning of the term "R'n'B" in the sixties compared to now to prove my point. I don't see the point of getting precious about the word indie either, basically in Britain the term has come to be a catch all phrase for all guitar music that isn't hard rock, punk or metal. You might not like that, but It seems pointless fighting against the tide. Language is always changing and evolving.

I wouldn't be able to recognise a Smiths song if I heard one either, although granted I would probably have looked it up before posting about it. Woeful production; poor instrumentation; fairly witty lyrics, usually pulled from Oscar Wilde or similar, despite their having a song about this very plagiarism; every floppy-fringed pseudo-fop in the room foaming at the mouth and willing to forgive everything because 'it's Morrissey'. Now you would! And I like The Smiths. Cheerio, Michael. xxx

The single most drooled over guitarist in the history of alternative music, who's had pretty much everyone whos anyone in the pop falling over themselves to get him to play on their records= poor instrumentation. I would like out of interest to ask what counts as good instrumentation in the Bush book?

what counts as good instrumentation in the Bush book? Quite, Johnny Marr is known for being an outstanding guitarist, and not only this , he also managed to keep the ego that is Morrissey in check (to an extent)

I always though the "Morrissey well wanted to bum Johnny" stuff was just a silly fan fantasy tell I read an interview with Johnny where he said he was asked about the rumour that Hand In Glove was written about him, and he answered "yeah, I thought it was at the time cos Morrissey wasn't really hanging out with anyone else back then"

HIM are actually still a guilty pleasure for me. In my younger years (bearing in mind that I'm still a teen) I was listening to alot of not-so-good stuff which I really don't see the appeal of anymore eg the paddingtons, goldfrapp, towers of london (eek!), trivium, kasabian, athlete I liked the early sugarbabes stuff but it's all gone downhill now, which is sad.

Pah, the Paddingtons and Goldfrapp still do funny things for me. Especially Goldfrapp.

Goldfrapp's first two albums are great, the third is painfully mediocre, and guess which one the general public bought in droves? *tuts*

I bet you've read a fair share. I don't see anything wrong with slash. It's just another form of artistic expression. ps. Johnny is so adorable in that shot.

Obviously Hand in Glove was written for Johnny... who else would it be for? I wrote a 15-ish page paper on Morrissey a while back. If anyone wants to see/read it... let me know. Anyway, bad teenage/early tweens music (most of which still lives on my iPod and gets quite a bit of playtime...) Includes but is not limited to: Aaron Carter Spice Girls Good Charlotte (I used to read Good Charlotte slash. Bad, bad slash.) ~Katie
