I also went through a huge old school punk rock phase just about 3 years ago, where I loved the Ramones and The Clash and the Sex Pistols. That's what I listened to when I was a teen; back when punk was all fresh and new, threatening and anti-establishment and which had people the age I am now running to the hills clutching their Glen Campbell/Perry Como records. One tea-time I was watching Nationwide with Bill Grundy (ask your granny) and he had the Sex Pistols on, and he was enticing them to say something really shocking on the telly. Their rendition of 'piss' and 'fuck' etc caused such a scandal the presenter lost his job. Our mum's mouth was a perfect O, such was the shock. Nothing can evoke a memory you thought you'd lost forever like music does.

I hated them at first.. then I saw them then live at Leeds 2004 and was impressed so I bought the album on a whim. Oh the shame. I even thought Johnny Borrell's "arrogant" interviews where funny.. I saw Razorlight at Leeds 2004! Wow. Marvel at the fact that two people from The North were in a crowd of around twenty eight bajillion at the only decent music festival The North has! Small world. My inner sassy minority sidekick in a sitcom went through a crisis of conscience when I was in my early teens, and insisted that I only listened to earnest music by 'women of colour'; Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill, India Arie. I used to pretend that - as a working class white boy from rural Northumberland - I could really relate to their multitudes of songs about black persecution and being from the American ghetto. Ahem. The Lauryn Hill album still sounds amazing, though. It's a shame she found Jesus and lost the plot. Cheerio, Michael. xxx

Westlife are good! Them and Blue. I liked Blue. Oh! And 5ive!!! Yes, I love the spelling of "5ive" ... but then people started spelling it "Five" and it was just wrong. Oh I spell it as "Five". I am ashamed. When I liked Blue I thought they were about the best thing ever to happen in the music industry since a1. Yes, a1. Infact I still sometimes secretly listen to boybands. When Blue split up I gave up on the idea that I was ever going to marry one of them and moved onto Busted who I went to see. McFly were supporting that day and no one had ever heard of them, and they were all only about 16. The day after the concert I decided I didn't like Busted anymore and this so concludes my boyband obsessions.

When I was twelve, I liked bad 80's new-wave. I just fixed my iPod and I often shudder when I listen to my old playlists. And let's not forget Radio Disney from the tween years. Oh god, I am sorry..
As I am still a teenager, I will admit that the only really bad thing I might regret musically in a few years is joining the Black Parade and wearing a matching jacket for their concert. I also really like T. Rex and am very, very close to convincingly looking like a glam rocker. This I will soon regret without question.

Cheerio, Michael. xxx I love Lauryn Hill, and I agree - it is a shame when you think of how bonkers she appears to have become. I read a review of a gig she did the other day... it made for quite a depressing read.

I'm glad "5ive" spelt it like that otherwise when someone asks for a "five pence piece", you can be sure that they're not asking you to give them your own rendition of 5ives, Slam Dunk Da Funk. I liked a lot of the bands you're all ashamed of...and I still do! Rancid, Blink 182, Korn although, as much as I love anything before and including Warning by Greenday, I cannae stand their newer stuff. I used to be soooo very ashamed about loving the Jam, Paul Weller, The Clash, Squeeze, Crowded House, PJ Harvey, Sister Rosetta tharpe, Nirvana, Beach Boys and all the other stuff my dad would have in his car, but now, I love them even more Even though I iz still a teenzz. Anyone else think the 90's was ACE for music?

I'm having a Crowded House song played at my funeral - look up 'she goes on' on your dad's Woodface.
Back on track; up with all the punk/new wave classics in the loft are a load of shit 70's/early 80's disco twelve-inchers...

I went through a T.a.T.u phase.
Oh the shame.
The Dixie Chicks are great and so are Placebo. I like to make fun of the Kooks and Razorlight are pooheads, although good to watch at festivals.

Yes, I love the spelling of "5ive" ... but then people started spelling it "Five" and it was just wrong. When I was in elementary school and had to write out numbers with letters I always accidentally wrote out 5ive, 4our, 8ight, etc, but I think I had some kind of mild learning disability, not because I knew of the band.

I think some of the choices here are a bit weird.
Do Metallica for instance really count as "bad" music? You might not like the genre of heavy metal but surely in that field they are as credible as you can get?
Open your mind people.
Ps, Crowded House rule, I have little or no shame.

Who remembers Lolly/ie? Scary child-woman English singer from back in the day. Well, quite a few years ago. I bought both of her two groundbreaking albums on cassette.. heh..

I used to, and still have, a huge fondness for Hindi pop and Bollywood movie soundtracks.
