I agree. Who will be in charge of the physical book, the giving it to him? I don't mind posting things, but posting within the UK may be easier, but that might be unfair on people in other countries. I guess it depends on where Patrick is when we want to give it to him. I'm going to start on mine soon, I've found my material/paper and I'll try and put something together.

Could we have a bit of the book for just messages? I'm just going to write a message for it so I won't need to send anything physical, it can just be printed out or something and put in the book. Would that be okay?

I'm little bit lost in whole discussion, but let's make clear one thing. For Blurb Book, are there any rules for picture resolution and DPI (dots per inch)? Because it's not so simple just make a picture and think they will resize it. Usually, you need to have 300 DPI picture for print (and I'm talking about newspaper print now) to make it look good and quality. Scanned middle quality picture (like 1000 x 800 pixels or so) looks fine in computer but it may not look good when printed. And I'm not an expert, so could anybody tell? Btw sorry for my English, it's not very good, hope everybody understands

I'm up for doing whatever the theme is. Add me to the non existant or existant list...

i'm also leaning more towards the physical original book, rather than the blurb book, only because of the price. last year it cost me like $10 to post my page to the UK, and if i'm gonna be spending that kind of money, i want PWolf to receive a pretty textual original, rather than a scan or photograph of the piece. however, i think the blurb book might look better/more professional, so.... i dunno. lets settle this soon, so we can get started on our pages

I'd probably like to do the non-digital; one again please!

Yeah, actually the non-digital would probably be so much easier (for the technologically impaired, like me), and prettier And those who want to do digital can still print it, etc... so everyone wins? I'm confused as to what has gone on in this thread decision-wise, so I'll just wait. I can't start work on it until next week but I have ideas!

Right then. We're in a bit of a pickle. Our two options, it seems, are this: 1) Make a physical-only book, like last year. Pros: - More creative choice - Overall a better present - Won't cost as much as BB Cons: - Postage will cost - Won't be delivered on birthday - Will need a co-ordinator (i fail at that stuff, bagsy not me) 2) Do a digital and physical copy, using BBPros: - Delivered half on bday - Clever idea, can still do pretty much what you want - Digital copy won't be binned or anything (hopefully) Cons: - Effort of sending things to different people etc - Costs quite a lot, donation will be an effort for some people - Limitations on what size things can be - Not as sentimental (?) There's the options now I think a poll might be in order to decide, a short one, cos this needs to get done. We need a co-ordinator for the book if we do that, does someone want to volunteer? We also need to specify margins and stuff. I'm easy either way, i have no ideas for either yet I'll update the main post once something's decided.

Maybe everyone should say their choice. My choice is:
Hand made physical book, post the page(s) I make to someone AND
DVD/CD with people's notes, artwork, letters etc.

My vote: physical hand-made book (even if it gets there late....) with attached cd/dvd for those who would prefer that... I agree with Rhianne's con of cost for the book...in the end it would probably be a couple people paying for most of it. This option can cover those who would prefer to post it, or those who want to e-mail.
Also, maybe the cake photos from a few years ago can be turned into a cover photo? I forget what it said, but I remember it being really cute!
off-topic: annabel, have I ever mentioned my fear of horses? Your gif is horrifying... I once found myself in the pitch dark unknowingly in a field of horses and we could hear them running but didn't know where they were....that could have been a vey real outcome haha

Also, if anyone then really can't afford to print/post things, if they emailed it to me, I don't mind spending a few quid printing them (within reason, not everyone's, but 3-4 pages or something), and I know that will make things a bit more mixed-media ish considering they won't be the physical textured bits of paper/material/whatever. But I guess if people just want some notes and things, I could print them off and then whoever puts the full book together can stick them into a page or something.

I like the cake-cover idea!
SO
I'm setting down the basic gist, i will change it if there is mass rage against the machine idea.
PATRICK'S BIRTHDAY GIFT '09.
We will create both a digital CD/DVD and a physical book of pages, pictures, collages, words, messages etc etc for Patrick's 26th birthday. Physicasl page(s) that you create (on any theme you like, obviously not being offensive) will be sent to someone (to be chosen still) through the post and added to the book. This book will be given to Patrick at a gig, probably later than his actual birthday.
Digital pages, either pictures of your actual page(s) or just something created on the computer will be e-mailed to someone (still Miyamashi?) and then given to him on his birthday (is bit actually still happening??) or maybe just made and given with the book.
There is no deadline, but it is looking like
16TH JUNE
for most things.
This is all so far. The list of contributers is on page 4. Subject to change. Very much so!

^ My message will only be a short one so if you could print it off to put in the book that would be really nice of you Of course, PM me when you've done it, I'll give you my email address, will have no problem printing it (just depends on if you want it normal paper/glossy/matt either I don't mind, it's only one piece of paper Oh, and I'm not going to any of his shows this time, unfortunately, because I wouldn't have been able to afford it plus traveling etc. So I obviously won't be able to be the one to hand the book over, etc. edit number 2: yeah, so physical copy aside, anything you make, send to miyamashi so it can be put onto a DVD, yes? edit 3: I don't draw, but I may attempt at doing a drawing as part of my page. Aha, incase you think his eyes are just scary, they're supposed to be shut and i started trying to show that there were shadows, but it didn't work so well. i may take more time on one though and put some colour into it. maybe.

Alright you lot, my arm has been twisted. SEND ALL YOUR (non-digital) PAGE GOODIES TO ME! If you are participating, send me a pm and i'll give you my address to send it to when you're done. I'm going to be sent a ring binder and a folder, and i'll hole punch it all and put it all together (a big responsibility, i'm a bit worried, but i'll try and be careful!). The cake picture is deffo going to be the front cover! I'll then send it back to jay to give to Patrick, when the time comes. In the meantime, anyone wanna donate page ideas? I only have two dubious ones (an acrostic poem or a cartoon type thing, depicting patrick on a journey which is a bit creepy). Jade, you CAN draw, you liar!

Well done Rhi! This sounds good to me. I really liked seeing everyone's pages last year too, so shall we post them to this thread when we've made them to show everyone what we've made? I'll pm you now for your address
