lets make a multimedia project! I like the "anything goes" idea. Maybe not everything could be put on a page anyway? Cds and dvds can be included as well. I don't really know how to organise this though...maybe we can look at who's going to what shows and the most convenient deadlines taken from that, maybe based upon regions/continents? although i suppose regionally, if you're British sending to britain the deadlines aren't quite so strict....but really it doesn't matter if he gets the present in a few smaller chunks or one large chunk.

I agree, the blurb book is a lovely idea! I think people should feel free to do new pages if they want, of course, but it's just such a terrible shame if he never gets to see last years efforts. If we used the blurb book, it could easily have little written bits. We could explain what we did last year. "We put together a book, people on the wolfboard made pages representing your songs. Universal never passed it on, here are some photographs of the pages anyway." "Here are this years' pages." "Here is a photo of the cakes we baked for you in 2007." "These are photos of individual gifts people have done, projects they've done for you..." etc. Except obviously word it all nicer in the actual book. PLUS we can have a messages section of the book, for everyone's letters, either scanned or typed. Once again, I really love the blurb book idea - everything can be included, and explained, and it'd look so nice, and be easy to be done as a group contribution. Edit; We could also have a page with the signatures of everyone who contributed maybe? I'm sure that could be done somehow. OK people, for the last time: the book is no longer in my possesion. It's most likely been recycled courtesy of Universal Records. i say we bombard them with emails/phone calls. I'd be willing to take part in this. We could start a thread, attract everyone's attention, provide Universals' various email addresses, maybe do a template email for those who don't have time to word their own. Simple

Yep, the Blurb Book seems to be the best way (?) and I'd like to draw something as a small gift for Patrick. So plan it and let us know in time

I LOVE the blurb book idea!
Could people do a Microsoft Word type page instead of a physical page? Would that work? It might be easier than sending postage and stuff. It's not as personal, but it's a good alternative. We'd obviously still include the old pages as well.
Does someone wanna do a round up of what can happen so far? Also, we could say what's going to be on each page. So far: Pictures of the old pages Our cake picture of 2007 Signatures from everyone that contributes?
PS - I'm in for Universal bombardment.

I definitely like the Blurb Book idea. The only problem is, again, that it will take time to have it printed and delivered (I'd give 2 weeks, just to be safe, as it says 5-6 days to print and up to 5 days to ship), which cuts our time to get this together to just about a month, if we want it to him by his birthday. I'd say, as for content, that everyone contributes all they can or want to. Free-for-all, so that we're not restricted, and everyone can give Patrick the best they can. Pictures of previous presents, letters, drawings....And I do like the signatures page, too. The multimedia idea would also be helpful, so if we wanted to include something that couldn't go on pages, we could package it with the book, perhaps?

That blurb book looks really cool! The benefit would be that everything could be sent to one person digitally which greatly cuts the travel time that was an issue last year. If it was running late I guess at worst it would be late and maybe Jay* could get it sent to the new record label to be binned again? (just kidding about the binning....I hope)
I'm generally crap at digital things but I'll give it a go to try to do something for this year's (since I don't want to venture back to my page from last year even though I had a lot of fun doing it...)
Rhi started the thread so maybe she can edit in a little list of people who've said they'll contribute?
*I hope I'm not putting you on the spot; I think I remember you saying something like this a while back? Sorry if I'm wrong.
It'd be nice if it got to him on his birthday instead, though!

okay, so how about we compile some information as to how this is going to go down, now? just so we don't get all lost, we don't want to end up getting nowhere since time is of the essence and all. rhi?
also, i will just add that while we can focus on getting the digital version done in quite a quick fashion so that patrick does have something from all of us on his birthday (i have presumed morgan/miyamashi will be giving this to him at the show in the states in the form of a cd or something), i can probably get the physical version to patrick at a later date, so there's no rush on that front.

So, is this blurb book the "main goal"? What will the dimensions of this book be? The parameters we have? etc etc? (Because it would suck to make something awesome for the CD and have it look terrible in the book.)

Ditto. This sounds like it would turn out really cool and be a lot of fun. (And I don't want to sound dumb, but is the digital copy of the gift going to contain the same pages made for the blurb book but just on a CD or something different?)

Okay, so we want to do the Blurb book, then? We're hoping we can get it to him by his birthday, but if not, then we'll figure out a way to get the book to him later, with a smaller, digital copy to him on the actual day? If we want to try and get the Blurb book done and here by his birthday, I'd say tentative due date for any contributions would be June 16, though that doesn't give us much time at all to make something really worthwhile.
As for format, I say we go for the biggest and prettiest we can. So that's the Large Format Landscape, at 11x13 inches. I'm guessing that we can get between 41-80 pages easily if we get everyone involved who wants to be, and so that would be $67.95, or £43.86.
If we get the Blurb book done in time, I can deliver that on concert day, but I doubt that'll happen, so it'll probably be a disk for that day, with a promise of a book to come. If we can tell him there's a present coming, we may be able to get a location out of him to send the book more directly, so we can try and cut out the middle man and lessen the chance of losing the gift in the post.
The big questions now: 1.) How do I ensure I get to Patrick to make the delivery, whatever the product? 2.) Who's going to pay for the Blurb book? I think a collaboration would be best for payment, too. Paypal? 3.) We need to know formatting, cover design, etc.
I'm willing to work like crazy to get this stuff completed, so I can try and put some ideas together for covers. I'll go through the Blurb site later to see exactly what we need to send them to make the book happen and compile a listing of formats for the files to send.
Another thing to consider: What do we want to title the book?
Edit: Blurb uses software for book layout. I'll download it when I get home later, and play around with it to see what all I can do with it. From what I'm seeing, it looks about like a digital scrapbooking program.

I'd like to at least try and contribute but I'm unsure of my artistic skills at the moment. But I'll wait for clear instruction. Oh and blurb is easy to use, I used it once and made an 80 page book (although my hard drive crashed and I lost everything, so back it up haha) This is a nice idea though.

I'd be happy to donate if I can persuade my mum to let me borrow her card. I'll probably just write a message and scan it in. My artistic skills are very limited .

I really would like to contribute in it, but I'm afraid I can't donate to paypal. My last final is (hopefully) on 29th May. So I'll have 2 weeks to make something special. edit: oh I have an idea!

I'm definately up for getting involved and I'm glad everyone likes the Blurb Book idea!
I think it will look really lovely and it means people can get messy and make glittery collagey pages and then scan them in to form the digital version, which will last longer and look better than a messy page would.
