I remembered today that it is Patrick's 26th birthday this year, on 30th June. I feel it is my duty to start another thread to discuss this (I've done it the last couple of years), to see if we want to make him something and just to wish him happy birthday on the big day. After last's mixture of fails and wins, (failure at getting the present to Patrick, but win at getting the book done in the first place) I think this year we have a better chance at getting the book to him, especially if some of you are going to the shows in the US. Unfortunately, we have slighty less time this year, since i've remembered quite late, what with all the album excitement. So, we can either make something new, or do something with the old one.
PATRICK'S BIRTHDAY GIFT '09.
We will create both a digital CD/DVD and a physical book of pages, pictures, collages, words, messages etc etc for Patrick's 26th birthday. Physicasl page(s) that you create (on any theme you like, obviously not being offensive) will be sent to me through the post (if contributing, pm me and i will give you my address) and added to the book. This book will be given to Patrick at a gig, probably later than his actual birthday.
Digital pages, either pictures of your actual page(s) or just something created on the computer will be e-mailed to someone (Miyamashi) and then given to him on his birthday at a gig in the states.
There is no deadline, but it is looking like
16TH JUNE
for most things.
This is all so far. The list of contributers is on page 4. Subject to change. Very much so!

I thought the book got sent to his record company (or somewhere Team Wolfy) and Patrick never received it? It's sad But everyone did their best. Also, the year before, we never got word on whether he received the cake-picture-collage, did we? Maybe we should just give up trying to give him a birthday gift, ha. They've never reached him But last years was properly beautiful. Maybe this year we could do something digital so it can incorporate the photos which people took of their last-years pages, and the cake photo from the year before? We could add new ideas, too.

if i remember correctly, there was a thread on here where everyone posted pictures of the pages they'd made, so we could always combine them, along with the cake photo? i think a digital thing is a good idea if they havent already, someone could always tell him about it, he might be able to ask around at team wolf to see if anyone knows where its gone?

I could be wrong, but I think Universal have it. The bastards.

All of our efforts are probably in a bin somewhere now if universal got hold of it, .

Do most people have pictures of the pages? I do.
HEY, we could do one of those make a 'poster of pictures' things, you can make on websites. Haha.

I'm going to the show here in Dallas. Would that be of help? (I also may have to make something special to bring to the show, now that I've realised what a special day it's on! *excitement*)

^ That might help, yes! Rhi, that's a fairly cool idea, how big could the poster be though? There is quite a lot of stuff to put on it, and they'd need to be kept in high quality so you could see/read all the detail. I think if it were big enough, it'd be too big for a poster, thinking about it Or too small that you couldn't read everyones lyrics/messages. Etc etc. Oh, that was another thing! People wrote/attatched messages/letters, didn't they? It'd be nice if some of them could be included still. Liz, I think you've found the name for the project

This sounds like a wonderful idea! Could new people (like me ) contribute?

Okay, guys, here's the deal. I'm going to be at the show on his birthday, so my thought is that I could collect all of the pictures of the past presents any of you may have, as well as any birthday contributions that any newcomers (such as obscureobscure above, or me) have to offer. I have plenty of disks, so instead of giving him a hardcopy, I'm thinking I could compile all of them in digital format, then make a preview booklet with some of the images, so he sees a sample of what we have for him on the disk. If you guys are up for that, I'll unblock my e-mail so you can start sending me files.
As for my contribution...I have a really, really bold idea that may or may not go through. I want to animate a video for Oblivion. I know I wouldn't be able to nearly finish it by his birthday, but I'm thinking I could have at least the character designs and some animation tests done by then. I'm terrified of attempting a project that large, but I'm thinking if I put it in the open and get people pestering me about it, I may be able to do it. What do you think? It'll definitely be something that'll force me to improve my abilities, and for a worthy cause, I think. (The only issue is that it would be way late for when the release of a music video should be, but I still think it would be completely worth it.)
Anybody else have any crazy ideas? I think doing this in a digital format will really free us up for more creativity.

OK people, for the last time: the book is no longer in my possesion. It's most likely been recycled courtesy of Universal Records.

That was the big thing I was worried about on doing something digital, too. The only issue with doing physical copies (of new material, obviously) is that they would invariably have to be mailed somewhere, whether to Patrick (which is apparently not the best idea) or to someone like me who's going to be there. The big issue with that is we're cutting it so, so close, so the physical presents would have to be mailed fairly early to ensure they got here. The main reason I was thinking digital was that it would be easier to zap them over via e-mail or posting them on a thread. We could always attempt both. There's nobody who says he only has to have one type of present.

i like the digital idea. it seems safer, somehow. and quicker. he could always get the physical copies at a later date, when we can be sure it will get to him (i may be able to mail it to management when he is finished touring). to get over the texture issue, perhaps we take pictures of our pages/efforts as opposed to scanning them in? i know it's not the same, but it's a bit better than a flat and squashed scan. i didn't finish my page in time last year, so i still have the main part of it, which was a masquerade mask i made... because i was going to incorporate that into a page about 'overture'. are we still using songs as themes this year or just going all out, whatever goes type thing? OK people, for the last time: the book is no longer in my possesion. It's most likely been recycled courtesy of Universal Records. i say we bombard them with emails/phone calls.

I think if we go digital we'll have to do something really awesome though. The cakes a few years ago were awesome... Something in that vein..

I'll take part in whatever type of present we're doing this year. I think that the physical copies of pages is a more exciting idea, but realistically, if digitally was the best and safest option, I'd go with that. I think I'll do something similar to my last year's page.

I don't know if anyone's heard of it, but we could do a blurb book ( www.blurb.com/ ) where we can use the previous photo's of our pages and the cake photos and any other images people want to include and put together a printed book of it all. I'm not sure how we'd get it to him but it would look really good!
