Is anyone going to Reading this year? I'm going to Leeds. My next gigs before then are Evolution Festival on the Monday mainly to see The Horrors and Enter Shikari, but will also be there to see Dananana... akroyd and Ellie Goulding. Then by way of genre change I'm seeing Magrudergrind with The Afternoon Gentlemen, Joe Pesci, and Torn Apart. After that I'm seeing La Dispute, Ataris, and Le pré ou je suis mort. Then in July I'm seeing The Prodigy, Pendulum, Enter Shikari, Chase and Status, Does It Offend You, Yeah and Zane Lowe at Milton Keynes Bowl. After Leeds Fest I'll be seeing BMTH again later in the year, and also Parkway Drive. Is it too much to hope that Patrick might be doing some gigs later this year?

The trans-Pennine Express from Leeds to Liverpool stopping at Warrington, when we all had to get off and get on a much slower and more crowded train that then stopped at almost every station. We arrived in Liverpool 70 minutes late.
Annoying, but that's all. In the scheme of things it is a mere trifle.

Heights in general, and I don't like walking across high bridges, like those between Luxembourg Railway Station and Luxembourg town centre. I nearly walked the long way down paths into the gorge, but these became a bit difficult so I had to go back and walk across the bridge. I waited until there was a group of people walking across and tagged on behind them, almost walking in the cycle lane which was near the middle of the road.
With heights goes a total fear of flying. I never have flown and I have no intention to do so.
I also must get over a phobia I have about the stretch of the M62 between Bradford and Leeds. I nearly passed out on that stretch about 4 years ago (I was rushed to hospital by ambulance), and I've only managed to drive down it once since. I avoid it.

While this topic is about the glorious Florence (no sarcasm intended), my birthday is June 24th when I will be 65, which seems awful. I don't know what Florence looks like - it doesn't matter, but I'd like to have a mental picture of her. In most non-political posts she has been very pleasant to me.

I genuinely think yellowbelly is a troll. I had to look up in Urban Dictionary its meaning the first time someone accused me of this. I'm no troll. I hope when we all meet at a Patrick Wolf gig / concert (or Leeds Festival if you're going), you'll see that.

Haha. btw, the actual Equalities Minister (who comes under (no graphic illustration needed) Theresa May) is Lib Dem Lynne Featherstone, who writes this on her website: (http://www.lynnefeatherstone.org/2010/05/equalities.htm )
"What was interesting though, is that I read out four manifesto commitments:
- Change the rules for gay people fleeing persecution to be granted asylum
- fight for unequivocal support for gay rights around the world, and use international groups like the Commonwealth to put pressure on countries to tackle persecution of LGB and T people
- change the law to remove the requirement to disclose historical convictions for consensual gay sex
- tackle homophobic bullying including a new category of exclusion data specifically for homophobic abuse
The shocking thing about the above four manifesto pledges above - is that they come from the Conservative manifesto - not ours!
I know there has been a lot of concern as to Theresa May's track record on voting on LGB and T issues - and indeed a facebook group against her has already grown to around 50,000. She crucially voted the right way - for civil partnerships. And I believe that she and the Conservatives will use the opportunity of this coalition with us - to move forward. Time will tell. But it is easy in the Liberal Democrats to be liberal - Theresa has had a much harder road in the Conservatives to bring change. So I give her and the Conservatives the benefit of any doubt to be new Conservatives - shedding hopefully their old reputation - and moving into the light with us!
I think there is a genuine desire to work together and I go forward in good heart."

And two paragraphs from the "Equalities" section of the Conservative / Lib Dem Coalition programme, published today: "We will stop the deportation of asylum seekers who have had to leave particular countries because their sexual orientation or gender identification puts them at proven risk of imprisonment, torture or execution. We will use our relationships with other countries to push for unequivocal support for gay rights and for UK civil partnerships to be recognised internationally." programmeforgovernment.hmg.gov.uk/files/2010/05/coalition-programme.pdf

I have no sense of smell, so have no idea if I do smell. From time to time I spray myself with pongy stuff, for other people's benefit, not mine. Thought some of you may be interested in this statement from the Home Office website: ( www.homeoffice.gov.uk/media-centre/news/hom-sec-equal-rights ) : "The Home Secretary and Minister for Women and Equalities has emphasised the government’s commitment to creating a fair society. Marking International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia, Theresa May said: ‘This government is committed to creating a society that is fair for everyone and supports equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) people. ‘This means supporting civil partnerships, tackling homophobic bullying wherever it occurs, changing the law regarding historic convictions for consensual gay sex and using our international influence to put pressure on countries where LGBT people are persecuted. ‘These commitments show our determination to tear down the barriers that continue to hold people back.’" I'm sure that you're all reasonable people and will judge her on her future actions, rather than on her past.

I went mad (with my money only) and bought 5 CD albums, so I'm listening to them all. I have (in alphabetical order): Bullet for my Valentine - Fever; Cancer Bats - Bears, mayors, scraps and bones; Flood of Red - Leaving Everything Behind; I Set My Friends on Fire - You can't spell slaughter without laughter; and Kids In Glass Houses - Dirt.
I'm currently listening to Flood of Red - A place before the end. I saw Flood of Red for the 5th time at a gig in Skipton on Friday night.

Pfft, I totally knew that! A side effect of listening to Radio 4 virtually all day. Also, my grandfather was a moth geek, and he co-wrote a book on moths, see. Fun. I have that book. I though dawn was at 5.02am tomorrow, but that's sunrise, so I must get up just before dawn (4.17am), but can go back to bed afterwards. If I leave it later the moths will leave the trap. Back to the General Election. I think raising the tax threshold is good, although it doesn't help the poorest in our land, but think those on £50,000 shouldn't benefit. The LibDems said up to £100,000 pa. I'm pleased that Frank Field has been brought in as "poverty Czar" as long as he gets on with the job quickly. IDS also knows a great deal about poverrty and its causes.

My view of the coalition - good, well really good. The best of the LibDem policies plus th best of the Conservative ones, and politicians working together for the common good.
I will come back and comment again, but I bet most of you don't know that in the UK it's National Moth Night tonight, so I have to get my light-trap out (and get up at 5am tomorrow to bring it in). I don't kill moths, just trap them, record them, take photo of them, and then release them somewhere safe (away from birds and bats). There's a geek in all of us.

They didn't postpone The Archers, so I wonder if the postponement of Eastenders was due to Eyjafjallajökull.
