maths was always difficult for me with my dyscalculia, but i still appreciate that it's important for me and many others, even if our careers aren't strictly maths-related. so many things in life are reliant on formulae, etc. and i always enjoyed chemistry.. granted, the blowing stuff up bit and making things different colours and dealing with corrosive substances were the bits i enjoyed the most, not the balancing equations and bonding crap.
after all that, i guess you could say i still don't understand maths. i didn't have a maths teacher for three years because of my school and when we did get one, he was terrifying and really didn't help my difficulty.. blah.
another thing i don't understand... why do these kids hang around in a huge group on my street corner and play shitty music from their phones? i'm pretty sure when i was that age i just played diablo II, clickclickclicking without intimidating people.

This thread has taken a turn for the inane. I don't understand the appeal of Jeremy Clarkson. Yes. I'm planning on deleting this thread if more than what I approximate to be half of it becomes people whingeing about school. And Jeremy Clarkson is vaguely comforting, he reminds me that however terrible a person I am, I will never be quite as dislikeable as he is.

How we live. As in do we live twice or several times in a cylce. I always have déja-vu's of future events, even though they aren't very clear most of the time...
Does anyone have a theory on this?

I have this wierd theory that we just do the same life round and round again after we die, which would explane deja-vu's! I always have dreams about stuff that happens the next day. Like once I was pretending to be a vegetarian but I couldnt eat chocolate for some reason then the next day I was watching the news and it was that thing about chocolate having animal fat in. Oooooh wierd... Anyways, I always wondered why triangle sandwiches taste better than square ones because they do.

^^That would explain, thanks for that. My dreams often lead to future conclusions for the weirdness of them...
I also second the sandwich thing: triangle sandwiches always taste better to me. I think because square sanwiches look a tad freaky?

there's many theories on deja vu, but the one that i know of is that one side of your brain registers something before the other side, so one side of your brain has already experienced it while the other is processing it
it's a very small difference in time, milliseconds or something, but still has an effect
that's not a particularly detailed description but i think it's right
correct me if i'm wrong though

Yeah I've heard something like that. Or something like that it's a really really mini seisure. Which, if the case, scares me because I get deja vu a lot.

Going back to the maths thing, i got a U in GCSE higher maths, *victory dance* and found that it has not hindered my everday maths challenges at all.
Also, I really don't understand why so many people are obsessed with cars, think they are beautiful and treat them like their own children....

..and what if the car's running? Maybe that's half the excitement...

why people love watching football/rugby/cricket/etc matches and get so serious and overjoyed/angry/aggressive about them i find watching it so boring and tedious, for me there is no suspense

Also, I really don't understand why so many people are obsessed with cars, think they are beautiful and treat them like their own children.... YES. My father is a car dealer. I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE OBSESSION. There's some really cool ones out there, and they're awesome for, you know, transportation to cool places and stuff. But... some people talk about them like they are their lovers and/or soulmates. It kind of disturbs me. EDIT: WOW, so some people actually have sex with automobiles?! Like, they literally ARE their lovers?! Oh man. People are weird. DOUBLE EDIT: Naomi, I KNOW. I went to my high school's sectionals football game (DON'T ASK WHY, it's a long story) and there were parents swearing and yelling in rage and disbelief like the world was actually coming to an end in a matter of a few moments because their son and his classmates were loosing a game by a few points.

Bad influences?
I dislike Sex and City it turns Middle aged women into lil tartlets. instead of having a coffee and talking about books or kids. You will hear them openly discussing they're sex lives and sex and the city episodes. People on the other table do not want to know while they're eating their lunch.
as for footless tights, it looks ugly and is all round just generally an 80's trend come back to haunt us while fashion houses think of something new for a change. Like big teeshirts, sack dresses and waist belts *bleh!*

Why, now that it is apporx. 0 degrees, are more girls wearing mini skirts and capri-tights than I have seen in the last month?
Here I am in my 8 layers of clothing plus scarf plus mitts plus hood and there are people walking around showing their legs! Nuts!

When do lampposts get fixed? Why do you never see baby pigeons? Why are some parents more immature than their kids?

Re. Deja vu - it occurs when your long-term memory store registers something, rather than your short-term memory store. Your brain thinks it's something you've seen/done before, because it has triggered the bank that contains memories of stuff you've done aaaaaages ago. Jeremy Clarkson - I despise most of his opinions. And yet I love Top Gear.

Also, re: Jeremy Clarkson: I'm sure there's a reason why - based on number of books sold, more than likely - but I find it horrifying that Penguin have reissued The World According to Clarkson with one of those fancy retro covers, alongside some of the most important books of the decade.
