re: blackcherrypies I dunno...something about the drums. It's like a tribal war chant. They're just so...powerful. It's like he's marching to fight or stand up for something. hehe yes you are right and that's exactly what annoys me, I love the silence in Patrick's music, which was best heard when he played live on his own.. oh sulk I really am stuck in WITW era.. oh oh oh I need to move one I know I know. I thought I did after the KOKO gig, I really enjoyed the new songs live. but it didn't touch the depth of my soul like WITW did.

OVERTURE is amazing.. i had the only magical moment of this Christmas listening to overture.. just before christmas i went on a walk (i always take my ipod) up to this roman fort on a hill near my house. it snowed for 5 minutes part of which i was listening to overture ; god it was magic. its a very ALIVE song... i love it and it makes me almost as happy as the violins on the magic position

I''m listening to it now for the second time, and I already like it somewhat more. it's probably just me, I've been depressed for over a month now, nothing can really really excite me

Overture is great - I wish Patrick's vocals were a little higher in the mix though. On another note, Bluebells is beyond amazing - the definitive version of a fantastic song. Everything just comes together perfectly - the electronica, the beautiful piano, even the fireworks synch in great.

lots of technonoise indeed, waste of space in my opinion, reminded me a bit of what björk once did on homogenic. thankfully this horror was a little shorter then björk's one. ;D What the FUCK? Did you just diss Björk's masterpiece Homogenic? If it were possible I would slap you silly through this computer!

ok...finally it came to me too...i feel guilty xD
someone said Marianne vocals are awful. I can only recommend some album of hers, all of them are good, cos when it comes to her vocals its just the thing of getting used to the sound. at the moment i can only say magpie is great. the rest i have to listen once more.

Well, whether or not I'm dismissing a legend myself, Bishi > Marianne on the Magpie guest vox methinks. Patrick was doing the spoken bits himself at the Koko, and I liked that just as much. But I love the technonoise of everything It's good to see a slight return of that since Lycanthropyyy. And Homogenic is wonderful. /two cents.

I got all albums of her, so no dissing from me, yet the song pluto 'stood out' on the album. I remember playing the album a lot in the recordstore I worked back then, and it scared the hell out of our customers. the effect secret garden had on my cat, sort of reminded me of that. so, there you go

Secret Garden is awesome. I love little interludes like that which wouldn't make sense outside of the album. It adds to the sense of album as full artistic statement in this age of I-Pod cherry picking.
It's really nice to get weirdness on there.

I have no idea why this is bother me so much, but whenever I listen to The Magic Position I feel like the two drum-beats/footstomps in between "in the" and "magic position" should be much much louder. Probably because that bit comes off so great live.

His voice also seems a bit dampened, which is a shame, he should be almost yelling it out, given the context of the song. It's still very, very good though.

I'm hoping that this is just because the album that's doing the rounds doesn't have the finalised levels and such. Because I think magic position will have louder violins and 'foot stamps' or whatever. Also, in response to some people's opinions, I think Marianne adds SO much to magpie, and that it wouldn't be one of my favourites without her - her voice has that ugly / beautiful thing, which suits the song perfectly. x

My favorite things about the album so far are....1) the textures, I love all the background oo-ing and the electronic stuff in Get Lost, 2) Patrick's voice is stronger than ever but his intonation is also much more subtle, I feel like he's letting the music speak for itself, 3) and his piano playing seems to have really improved. one question though - does finale actually have lyrics? the version I have is just shy of 2 mins long so I was thinking maybe it was cut off based on Michael Bush's review of the album?

Is Finale really only 1:57 long or is this just a bad rip that's going around? It stops abruptly and if it's really all there is to the song it's a bit anti-climactic...
