Right thats it.
I know it's grimly predictable that it's me who's doing this topic, but I'm going to just come out and say what it's patently obvious loads of people on here are thinking at the moment.
This board is getting way way too bogged down with BLAH rubbish posted by people who's motives for posting seem to be no more than wanting to post for the sake of posting. I take no pleasure in being mean and the last thing I want is elitism or some sort of "noobzz vs the inner circle" divide but to honest I can't see a way of that not happening now.
It's not personal, but people are racking up scary post counts, people who I honestly can't remember a single post they've written! I might seem a hypocrite by my post count but I think every post I've ever put on here has had at least had some thought behind it. When I log on to this board now I see no reason to read half the topics cos it's just the same rubbish over and over again that would in many cases be best left on Livejournal or better still peoples inner monologues.
You know what I'd like? Actual discussion and conversation! It doesn't have to be "heavy" or intellectual, I just think people should bare in mind this is a public forum, and consider why some of the stuff being posted would be of any interest to anyone but themselves? Not trying to get to anyone honestly, but maybe just have a think? Because it's putting people off coming on here, and burying everything else including the community we had here before under the rubble of inanity.

It's summer, Josh. Almost all forums experience something like this during the summer. The trick is to keep the community spirit going and to help the community recover in the autumn.
Not that I don't agree - I definitely do. Your problem is that you are generally too bright.

I don't really think chit chat is causing the board to be boring or anything. When you get a lot more people on a board, more people are talking and there are more things to respond to. That's just how it goes as forums grow.

Yeah, why can't you guys like, debate Buddha or something. ...
On a serious note, my posts aren't particularly jaw-droppingly deep or anything, but I really only get like that on MSN. Sorry if anything I write is inane, etc.
I think people are just bored. Like Clare said, it's summer, a lot of people are going to want to goof around instead of talk about relatively interesting things.

I want the forum to be as busy and active as possible.
But I'd rather have one interesting post or thread, in exchange for 100 bland or inane ones. A slow interesting forum>a busy rubbish one tis all I'm saying.
Clare, you know the score and speak the sense *exalts*
Alicia, goes without saying, I'm not talking about you in any way, shape or form.

Alicia, goes without saying, I'm not talking about you in any way, shape or form. I was talking to the general forum, but thank you. :b I guess my only complaint is that a lot of the posts in the common room belong in the Forum Forum. That's what it was made for, wasn't it? Endless in-jokes, complimentary threads, and Josh's ass? Did I miss anything?

Not that I don't agree - I definitely do. Your problem is that you are generally too bright. it's too rainy to be proper summer I'm convinced that summers happening earlier in the year for shorter amounts of time. I am totally behind Josh on this. It's really difficult to have a proper discussion on here, because half the time people are more interested in talking about themselves or making awful in-jokes. I know I'm not entirely innocent, but I always try to make an effort to engage others. Half the time I wonder if people even read anything except the original post. They post their self-important shite that they expect us to give a crap about, and then never return again. It's totally dull.

Truth be told the Common Room really hasn't been discussion-y. It's all Patrick Photoshops, What Made Your Day, and Photos of Yourselves lately. But personally I don't mind, I'm still having a grand old time here.
I'm sure we'll get back into What is Your Most Radical View form sooner or later (great thread by the way, great thread.) But for now, like Clare said, it's summer, it's nice out, school's out, and people are done with thinking of interesting things to discuss/debate over for now. But for me, tis still all good.

I'm going to be completely honest here, you sound like a spoiled little girl who's just gotten her favourite dolly taken away from her. I mean that in the nicest way possible.
Honestly, you say you don't want to make this a "noobzz vs the inner circle" thing, but what do you think this thread is doing? It certainly isn't making the "noobzz" feel very good about themselves. Some people are just trying to enjoy themselves, to socialize. What else is this here for? For everyone to stare at? "Oh, it's so pretty, but don't touch!"
You say you want discussion and conversation. Well start some! Don't whine about it, just do it. Obviously other people think what they're saying is of interest to other people. If it isn't, and no one responds, oh well better luck next time. If someone else responds, and they have a conversation? Well, good for them! That's what it's about, isn't it?
And you know, I'm sorry post count means so much to you. I'm sorry I went a little overboard the first week or so I was here. I was excited! This was a new and interesting place, and I wanted to spend my time here because I liked it. Everyone was relatively nice, and I enjoyed myself. It just so happens I have a lot of time on my hands. As do other people, perhaps. It is summer, as has been said. But you know, I have cooled off quite a bit, I think.
I do apologise. And I really am sorry. I've nothing against you or anyone else. I just don't understand the hostility.

The first forum I ever joined (I think I was twelve or so) had a rule: make sure that every post you make contributes to the thread in some way. I try to follow this rule in my posts, but I know I've faltered and am not very strict about it sometimes. I know this thread isn't about me, but it's only my own actions that I have control over and can talk about. Some General Guidelines Concerning Common Sense About Posting On The Internet That Perhaps Other People May Find To Be Of Note: Before hitting "post" take two seconds and think: Does my post contribute to the thread? Could my post be construed as blatently off-topic? Would this post be better suited as a PM or topic of disussion on MSN, AIM, etc? Has someone said what I'm saying alreay and I'm just posting "I agree" without any clarification or elaboration? Would anyone give a shit? Also: we do have an Off-Topic Thread that people may want to employ. Just trying to help.

It seems lately there's been an ambush of new posters, but generally, I still enjoy reading most of the posts. Everyone new is pretty funny. I just can't fathom how they're all gaining such high post counts in a month. It seems a bit excessive. Also I've noticed the lovely 'edit' button is not being used much by the noobs.
It's probably just because a lot of people on here are used to it being quiet and such...but the more the merrier.

hm, I don't see it getting all that bad. But Josh, you can't expect EVERY post to be something of interest to you. Just like every book doesn't interest every person. And yes, every forum i've ever seen has completely worthless ramblings. If you want to get away from that, why not have MSN convos instead?
also, what makes you think other people don't put thoughts into their posts?

hm, I don't see it getting all that bad. You've been here two months. I don't mean anything bad by it, but you wouldn't see it getting bad. More on MSN convos - have them, please! Too many threads have pages and pages of back and forth convos between two people that have nothing (or little) to do with the thread. edit: I really don't want to sound mean haha...I like most of the new people! A lot!

Well sure, and there has been change, but you were in the change, so you may not notice it as much is all.
