I agree with everything Rebekah said in her first post, this thread scared me shitless when I first read it.
I also agree with the fact that most of the stuff in the Common Room should probably belong in the Forum Forum. Moving the 'Patrick Photoshop' and the various other photo albums which have sprung up into the Forum Forum would make lots of sense. It's not so much the Wolfboard going down the shitter as the Common Room being used in the wrong way. Once all those threads have been moved, there will be more room for 'serious' and sensible discussions, where going off-topic is discouraged, in the Commom Room.
About what Mimicry said about the Off-Topic Thread; I made it because there was an Off-Topic Thread on the last forum I was on. On that forum, you weren't allowed to go off the topic in a thread, so if a conversation was starting to go off-topic the people having the conversation would continue it into the Off-Topic Thread. So yeah, people could use it for that purpose.

Although I have been registered for over a year, I just started posting two months ago or so, so that would make me a newbie. I hope that what I post does not seem silly and superfluous. If people have a problem then smite me or send me a private message. Then I will get the point.
I get what many of you are saying that this happens in the summer. I am home more often and because of my health, I spend a lot of my time home online. I thought that I had found a safe space where everyone could express themselves freely and I enjoyed that. I do not want to see that change.

Yeah, If any of you have any problems with my posts, feel free to PM me.
I can't help but feeling that this topic is a little directed at me? But maybe I'm just too sensitive. *is unsure*

This doesn't happen very often, so please mark today in your Calender of Important Events, but I agree with Josh. The most frustrating thing is that I created the Forum Forum for the two-way verbal exalting that was going on in the Common Room, to keep the Common Room free for discussion. This is not to say that every thread needs to be phenomenal - I'm a big fan of 'The Disney Thread', after all - as long as they say something that's of interest to more than one small sub-section of people, ie. your best mate and someone you chat to on MSN. That said, I'd agree with Laura when she says this is usually what happens over the Summer; it happened last year, and the year before that, so I'm not taking it to seriously at the moment. However, if people would like to think before they post - something along the lines of, 'will this make any sense to anyone outside of my imediate friendship group?' or 'will this please our glorious and most awesome leader, Michael Bush, enough that he won't plunge me into the firey depths come Judgement Day?', you know the thing - I would be very grateful. Cheerio, Michael. xxx Why not create a sticky thread in the common room explaining this? Make it clear that two-way verbal exalting, topics about oneself, appreciation threads, and off-topic banter belong in the forum forum. Also perhaps the 'Photos of yourselves (non titty ones)', 'Photos of yourselves from back in the day', and, 'what made your day, what didn't make your day' threads should be relocated to here. I think they’re suited to the forum forum better and moving them may cause more people to post their off-topic banter here.

Nah, isn't that a bit mean? A PM would be a good nudge in the right direction.

I guess I just don't like the thought of regulating what people can or can't talk about unless it is generally offensive. Some people not finding something interesting isn't really a reason to limit what people can talk about. I've said this before here and other places, if you want interesting threads, make them.

I feel like I should contribute something to this thread.
I mean, I was going to say "Shit happens," for no reason other than personal amusement, but I thought that would be a bit stupid of me.
It's true that it's got incredibly dull and inane recently, but people in general are dull and inane so it's not really worth complaining about.
Plus I always got the impression it was interesting and amusing to everyone else, not being part of the whatever it is of in jokes and all.

That's a good point. But the Common Room and the Forum Forum are becoming so similar it's almost hard to tell the difference. There are definately some threads in the Common Room which would be much better in the Forum Forum.

I always thought that was the point of a common room. Just talk to each other. Anyway, if a thread doesn't fit well, can't the moderator decide that and just move them? I guess I am down with that as long as threads aren't being deleted because a few people think they are dull.

I have the increasing sense that Michael Bush hates my very soul and essence for perpetuating in-jokery and all that rubbish. Similarly thinks I'm a philistine for combining the odd, dumb mathematical symbol and number as an expression of affection. (Or for expressing as much affection as I do in the first place towards people I haven't, or have barely, met.)
Well, a big fat je regrette to said Glorious Leader. No more acknowledgement of knowing anyone from Adam will pass my proverbial lips. Sure.
I don't have a problem with anything but the inanity/rapidity/brevity (THREE-HIT COMBO) of some posts, those that culminate in many pages without so many words or points of interest. Otherwise, people are having fun and I don't think it's particularly problematic.
I don't know. I've never been good at forming an opinion. Never mind.

wow, i've only been here two months and could easily agree with Josh's sentiments.
can't really complain much though, seeing as how my only quality posts were in the word snake thread.

I have the increasing sense that Michael Bush hates my very soul and essence for perpetuating in-jokery and all that rubbish. Not even! People here are too sensitive. If I had a problem with someone, I'd let them know via private message. I do think some of the in-jokes have gotten out of hand - a lot of it is too oblique for newcomers to pick up on, and I want the Wolfboard to remain as welcoming as I think it's always been - but I'm not pinpointing anyone specifically for perpetuating them. Also, I like you. Ha! Blew up in your face, didn't it? Cheerio, Michael. xxx
