I've only skipped through the Amanda Palmer one and it seems quite disappointing. Possibly the leak doesn't have the final mastering, because the sound seems really shitty. It lacks so much of the emotion of the live tracks. Maybe that's just because seeing her live, mascara-smudged and half-spilling out of a lacy corseted dress is just the perfect medium.

I'm hoping that's the case. The songs have really muddled production, and some songs just sound like noise. I was really disappointed in it; my expectations were super high--the live tracks I heard really did have more emotion to them. It's like she was holding back in the recordings. I should mention I'm pleased with some songs. It's really varied on the album.

I was really disappointed in it; my expectations were super high--the live tracks I heard really did have more emotion to them. It's like she was holding back in the recordings. I should mention I'm pleased with some songs. It's really varied on the album. I saw her perform at the Pops and the screening for the musical videos for WKAP and I must say that the recording is kind of shit. It's not going to get better with the real release-- what we heard with the videos in Brattle theater was the 'real' audio: it sounds much the same. I think they're wildly over-produced/under-produced (note lack of solo piano!) in spades and I'm quite saddened. I got to see her perform the demos-- the just-her-and-piano at a teeny little gig on piano and I thought that this would be one of those epic albums that would stay on repeat for a long time. But between the producer (Ben Folds, what?) and I think Amanda's want to do more, better, has lead to all of these add-ons that made the songs worse, because they took over decent recording. But I think also part of it is the lack of solo piano-- part of what has drawn me to the Dresden Dolls is their (I hate saying things like this) sort of stripped down sound. So this seems weird. Odd. However, the album is good. Just not as good as I was hoping. Sorry for the grammar fail (and rambliness)... ETA: According to the young lass herself, the real version will have some brief changes in the mastering.

I really need to sleep right now. P.S. there is lots and lots of old stuff and also a new album or so called Från Hat till Handling that came out this year.

Do YOU have Enon's compilation album Lost Marbles & Exploded Evidence? I shall perish if I do not hear "Knock That Door" again someday soon. That is all. Anything in return?

Owen posted links to a couple songs from the other ep (assumingly this one is Spectrum 14th Century) on the FF forum: shzine.proboards10.com/index.cgi?board=fantasyI heard rumblings that they'll be available online through Blocks, so let's hope so! Edit: They apparently will be available Sept. 30th.... Spectrum on CD and 10" and Plays to Please on 10".
