That's cruel, no peanuts? Make sure that chocolate bar isn't a nut and fruit one lol Anyone heard the number one single in England? It's called Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye, and I really like it. Also the video is pretty cool/strange. Also I just heard of a band called Elliot Minor, once again attracted by the pretty sounding instruments. Why can't electric guitars sound pretty? I don't play any instruments* but electric guitars sound really sort of angry. * Tried the sax in year 7 but I'm a small person who struggled to hold it and my friends had given up on their stuff so I felt alone. Also the violin list was full

It's kind of annoying having to check labels and everything but i'm used to it I don't think i've heard that song, i never listen to the radio or anything (except for at work when my boss normally has smooth radio on ) so i never know any chart songs. I just looked it up and it's actually pretty good, better than the sort of songs that are normally no 1 Sorry i should stop being so judgemental about chart music, it's just when you compare the sort of songs that are normally popular to Patrick's music... Yeah i generally like more interesting instruments than guitars (although some music i really like has guitars - i suppose it depends more on the music itself). I used to play the guitar at school for my second instrument - but just acoustic guitar, and my teacher only gave me classical/baroque music. It was kind of fun though I have a bass as well - i got it for my birthday a few years ago when i had an obsession with basses but i didn't have much music to play on it (and it was difficult to read since i'm so used to treble clef) so i barely ever play it. And i also played the flute - that was my first instrument. I've barely played my instruments since i left school, i should really start playing them again!

I put on the charts when I'm reading in the living room. (I dont wanna kill the rabbits ears by putting the radio on in the FUCKING fdfghjkKITCHEn)
Chart music in my head is very samey aswell, it is just club-like backing music with very little/boring lyrics. I like it when I'm walking down the street or in the bath and i finally realise what the songs about or even a part of a song. I cried at the end of Divine Intervention when I finally understood it, I was halfway to my friends house. (Don't ask me to put what its about in words... I'll ruin it and jumble the meaning in my head)
Also auto-tune is a pet peeve of mine, if you cant sing live, fuck off! Obviously if its used as an effect or to make the song sound better it's fine. The Childcatcher is a great example in this case, like Patrick could of just made his voice go deeper to make it scary but the electric-ness makes it more freaky.
I'm jealous of all the instruments you can play. Talented so-and-so!

I hardly ever listen to radio...but I'm going to see Gotye tomorrow ;D (and I have no idea where he is in our charts ) My first instrument was the flute too hehe...second one acoustic guitar...used to play classic stuff as well (nice but ever so difficult) I stopped playing when I got a crappy new teacher who couldn't play at all, messed up my good technique I had achieved through ever so much hard work and had the nerve to suggest I should rather try playing the piano as I'd be unfit for the guitar...such an asshole... in between I tried playing the violin (but I never owned one)...but when I had to choose between acoustic guitar and violin I chose the guitar...I kind of still regret that decision...I wasn't bad at playing the guitar, but the violin - kind of was my instrrument. I just didn't realise it at that age...it was so easy to play whereas the guitar was a challenge (stupid ambition...)

nat, what topic's your dissertation about? cat, there are posh areas in glasgow? all that posh vs. fear for your life districts is really really funny if you come to think of it. because, when you're a tourist you most likely don't know the characteristics of a city's districts well. you also don't know their "reputation" within the city. haha, i've had that so often, that i stayed in whatever district and thought it looked all normal and friends would later come and say OH MY GOD YOU HAVE STAYED WHEEEEERRREEEEEE? ARE YOU INSANE!!!! i suppose it depends on what country you're going to, but so far i've been lucky and never got killed i thiiiiink gotye was number 1 in our charts at some point. randomly enough i'm going to see him tonight as well. harr harr my atari bruises already hurt less and are getting smaller. that just backs up my theory, that i'm made of some elasticum XD

^ when you write "atari bruises" one could think you've been beaten up by an old computer...so don't talk like that the kids are getting scared! just tell them you've had a fight with some nazis (which isn't true either, but sounds better anyways ;D ) and after all...that was the whole point of driving to dresden wasn't it? who would've come just for the music?

oh there was music? * it's not a proper atari teenage riot show if you don't have a shoe in your face at some point and get sort of beaten up. and after it you're soaking wet from mostly other people's (including band) sweat now this comes across as something rather disgusting, but really, it was brilliant! *kidding, concert was fantastic

^Thats sounds quite scary... I couldn't cope in the mosh pit when I went to see All Time Low... I was pressed up against some fellas back half the time and couldn't hear the music, I ripped the sole of my only pair of boots and had to hobble to the bar for the barmaid to put heavy-duty black tape to fix them Though the guy ended up being my friends cousin its a small world (I also hate the term 'mosh pit' it sounds really stupid and i can never say it outloud because i think when I say it I sound like I'm dumb, couldn't they think of a better way to say it?)

i think it really depends on the crowds - what i experienced in atari crowds so far, they've mostly been rough, but not blindly violent. so if someone falls, they're helped up, if someone obviously got a bad kick/blow they slow it down around to see if the person is alright (just waiting for faye to protest on this XD)
i agree on mosh pit being a horrible term. it sort of sounds like a food place for pigs.

I don't count I guess the guys from behind me always think I'm a long haired boy or sth because I'm tall and get violent when someone hits me (all I say is: boots and ellbows...) it's better to be a (cute now don't hit me! ;D ) little girl when you decide to go front row when there's no fence...no good idea to stand in front of a stage that's a lot lower than your hips... but the bruises heal - slowly and as long as my mum doesn't think (when seeing the bruises and me trying to explain it to her) I'm in some kind of abusive relationship with a guy who's got a weird english name that's alright ;D she hasn't asked yet though...how convenient to have a trusting mother. she doesn't even know I've been in Dresden xD

^what was your excuse for the bruises? I'm doubt that you fell was a good enough excuse. Another thing about this gig was that I got split up from my friend really early, so I spent like an hour and a half on my own in a mad crowd... Being small doesn't help:( We were talking about this and I started talking to her about the crowd when I went to see Patrick Wolf, saying that I had space to move my feet ect. and she looked at me with pure disbelief when I said he came in the crowd. I told her some topless guy hugged him and he was close enough that i touched his hair (while laughingly saying I had to stand on my tiptoes ), she replied, 'If the artists I like came in the crowd they would have their clothes ripped off'... Doesn't that sound like a lovely atmosphere? niwo could you send me or post a video of the band you talking about's music? If the fans jump about so wildly they hit each other without trying to deliberately cause harm (Unless they are just violent idiots) they must be at least a little good ;D

she didn't ask... but she only saw the one on my knee not the whole disaster so she didn't bother to go into detail. that sounds as if my mum was a careless parent. well she isn't it's winter so I don't run around with naked legs, so she doesn't see and that's it I bet Patrick couldn't do that in all audiences...woops I say no more...might offend a whole fandom ;D they're not only a little good! ;D but I leave it to niwo to chose a link to post but it's techno. or punk. noise. a mix of all of it. dunno. I don't categorize music apart from classical - rock - pop you'll understand when you listen to it

Is CX still in ATR now that Rowdy has joined? yes he is. but he's releasing something on his own atm and touring in the US, so he couldn't have done the current atari tour oh well, i suppose being female, small and disguising as cute does work for most male-dominated crowds ;D sorry faye would be your "shadow" if i was anything like patrick-sized! the genre is lovingly described as "digital hardcore" activate (attention, STROBELIGHTS and flashing lights and all that brain numbing shit!) www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsxwMuk-WxI&feature=related

^ awww but don't grow up just for my sake! ;D stay young and cute I didn't say digital hardcore because it just sounds so shitty :X lol ;D no offense. but it nearly sounds as bad as the lyrics "too much bullets" xD we always laugh our ass off when they sing...erm shout that ;D but you've got to love them not only for Patrick's sake

nat, what topic's your dissertation about? It's about music in the 1984-5 miners' strike in Britain, weird topic which has thankfully turned out to be pretty interesting I started off wanting to write about protest music and then my supervisor told I obviously had to narrow it down, so that's what I ended up settling! It's mainly folk-type stuff with a few crossovers into punk which is quite nice, but it's a bit depressing as miners only ever really sang about massive pit disasters so I always have to listen to happy music afterwards to cheer myself up It's due three weeks today now, aaaaahh! I thiiiink I might have been in moshpit before but I'm getting pretty good at keeping my arms in front of me so I don't get pushed back too far, haha Both times I've seen We Are Scientists I've barely been able to move from the second song onwards and I came out of one with a massive bruise on my hip from being shoved against the barrier, but I haven't experienced anything worse than that! I prefer a lively crowd anyway, I hate it when no one's moving at all and I just look silly having a big dance on my own!

niwo That is bloody cool! Are the shows that energized? If so I wanna go to one! That song is also a tune, I shall overplay this in my little lunch club and get people to dance with me! Yup, I do that, I force my friends up to the front of the classroom and we dance and jump around like nutters... Though I'm on my own if it's Patrick Wolf or IAMX.. lol I have no shame, if I like the music I WILL dance and sing. No iPods in class for me then, I cant help it. ;D

^well, depends on the audience, but yes, full of energy from beginning to end really i'm a bit pissed off cause airport staff might go on strike tomorrow. they're not saying if or when or where though, to make it impossible for the employers to get extra staff to cover those times. ha well thanks. don't get my flight cancelled or i'll practise some airport riot! >.<
