Lyrics as best I can make them out:
From the East to the South I tongue the roof of my mouth To new days of doubt without you First gear: I face the trouble ahead Find no word's been said Long-distance spread between us I tell myself to
Hold on! Won't be long Til I grow up through this struggle Time to wake up Find the muscle
Happy without you, happy without you Happy without you, happy without you Happy without you, happy without you
Not called for weeks now But six days without sleep means I'm a slave to my early grave If I do not be brave, behave Save myself out this mess I have created of myself yet again Yet again I say
Hold on! Won't be long Til i grow up through this trouble Time to wake up Find the muscle
Happy without you, happy without you Happy without you, happy without you Happy without you, happy without you
We go on. Heart be strong. Stay whole. Unbroken
As we divide Oh love goodbye Thanks for The time... Time of my life
Happy without you, happy without you Happy without you, happy without you Happy without you, happy without you
Time, time of my life Time, time of my life (So happy without you) Time, time of my life Thanks for the time of my life

At first I really missed the jitteriness of the original Megamix version/youtube version, but the new arrangement seems suited to the changes in tone.
'Thanks for the time, time of my life' used to be 'worst time, time of my life'. The version from a few years back is indignant, and The Bachelor-y. It's all survival instinct and seagulls speaking and the determination 'i will BE happy without you'. Zooming synths and double time clattering drums. this new version is steely and determined in its own way, but more collected, wistful, and with an aura of something halfway in between appreciation and regret. If the old one was a Tristan or an Accident/Emergency, this is more of a Teignmouth/Bluebells.
Production-wise Patrick's going strength-to-strength; even at the moments when this recalls string arrangements on Overture or The Magic Position, the sound is fuller and warmer, and his baritone is more confident than even Blackdown or Who Will (especially those runs in the background at the end).

Heh, so I don't suppose anyone knows when the EP will be ready for pre-order? It does come out in a month or so... >_> I just really want to get my hands on it. I hope it's easy like last time for someone in the US to get it.

I actually completely love this song. Much better blasted on headphones. It does have a warm quality to it, but at the same time it's very sad in a way. I really love the repetition of "happy without you", that chorus is so lovely!
It sounds like our ol' raw emotionally honest Patrick but with much more control and maturity. I can't wait to hear the rest of the album.

I really prefer the 2008 version and i hope he releases it as a b-side like he did with teinmough on the spinster record That is of course not saying that the new one is bad, it is a lovely song! Anyone seen the video? www.youtube.com/user/patrickwolftv It is very basic... I would have happily made a better/more exciting one for free

I like it's DIY low budget charm, especially as this must be the one he referred on twitter as the stop motion video he was making on his FUCKING fdfghjkKITCHEn table? but maybe you could do one too and post it here

^ That can't possibly be the music video! When I heard it on the radio, I wasn't keen. I've listened to the radio rip a few times, and still didn't like it. It's really hard to still identify as a Patrick Wolf fan when the music he is making now is completely different to the music I first fell in love with... It's just not what I'd normally listen to anymore. It's hard to listen to it in a balanced way, 'cos it's like "But Godrevy Point! Wolf Song! Empress! Overture! Lycanthropy! Teignmouth!" and it's not even vaguely comparable. It's like he is a completely different musician, who it would be really convenient for me to like, but I just don't. That being said, the Bachelor was awful in an unlistenable kind of way (imo), and this is certainly better. Having listened to the song on that video, it does sound warmer and nicer than I first thought. But it's still got meaningless, repetitive lyrics. STILL, I'll probably buy the album anyway. Edit - Just to let you know.. its not an official "music video" just a little lyric video for youtube made in my FUCKING fdfghjkKITCHEn xx p w half a minute ago via web That makes sense then

He's put the video on private now... For anyone who hasn't heard the song on the Nick Grimshaw show yet and wants to, follow this link and go to about 26 minutes or so: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b00vk5t6/Nick_Grimshaw_Dear_Danny_with_Daniel_SlossI've just listened to it twice and although I think there will probably be stronger songs than this on the album, I think it's probably a good choice to show how his emotional state's moved on from the last album and follows on pretty nice from the 'The Messenger' at the end of the last album. I can see it being seriously life-affirming live though, eeeeee!! Chris, I'm also a bit gutted the album's going to take so long, as that also means I've have to wait until that sort of time for any tour dates up north... But ah well, we're getting there! Just hope he doesn't put the date off further like he did with the whole February/spring/eventually June thing with the last one

Yay Sad as it sounds, I was actually really impressed that 'Time of my Life' happened to have 12 letters so it fitted perfectly into that clock face!

I think the fact that I've just listened to it about 6 times in a row is very telling of how much I like it I love that he's changed it! It's so much more... I don't know... hopeful sounding? I agree with Christina saying that it sounds happy and sad. Eeee I can't wait to hear the rest of the album!!

It's actually pretty damn good. Those strings! As lead singles I was not that happy with "Vulture" or "Accident and Emergency". This is a vast improvement for lead single, and back to a great lead single like "The Libertine". Ooo, it's pretty good! I can't wait to hear it in proper quality. The handclaps!
Yes, as with every album, Patrick is going somewhere else, but he is clearly growing as a songwriter. He has been wanting to write a great pop song in his own style for a while now, and this might be the best I've heard him come up with.

I really like it. It's definitely a step up from The Bachelor and the sound that he was going for on that album. The strings are lovely and the bass is lush too. Parts of it remind me of his older work so it's a nice mix between the two. I can't wait to hear it live and to hear the album.
