Yeah I thought that, some man from outer space and a hottie come to your house and take you to the future where you are super famous, then you go home to your tiny village. I'd be a BIT crazier than normal after that.

does anyone else noticed at the start a few kids saying in the room at the art museum saying - that's the Doctor, he helped him during his final years?' or something similar?

Ooh very emotional that episode, I nearly cried too. Yay for Bill Nighy! I thought that Van Gogh would commit suicide because of the awesomeness he witnessed and that it was too much for him too. I was curious about the BBC headroom thing at the end of the episode, so I went on their website. We've got nothing like that in France, if someone decides to commit suicide in a movie or has a mental illness nothing tells you that if it disturbed you you can go to a website.

^Yeah, I've always thought it was a bit weird, but it must help some people because otherwise they wouldn't do it?
When, at the end of this episodde, the commentator said 'If you've been affected by any of the issues raised in this program...' I had this momentary confusion where I thought they were talking about being visited by time-travellers, and battling invisible monsters, and being taken to see your own future. Then I realised they were talking about Van Gogh, and I was amused at myself for being so silly.

i loved this episode. my favorite of the new series so far. i've been a fan of gogh for ages, i remember being entranced by his work when i was a little girl and i'd just stare and stare... so i was really looking forward to this episode. i found a couple of scenes a bit cheesy because it felt like the acting was strained, but overall i really loved it. it made me wish this could've happened for him in real life, because he was so let down in reality by the lack of love and appreciation for his work but on he painted... so i'm glad they wrote an episode for him. he deserved it, even if in reality he can never know how lovely he was.

Okay, so apart from the fact I have absolutely no idea what the shitting hell the thing was on 'the second floor', I thought this episode was cute. Matt Smith is cute, as was the writing for him, and James Cordon's who relationship thing was cute {if awfully cringey and stuff} and seeing Matt Smith's Doctor - or any Doctor - play football was just like... woah. <3 Not too hot on actual plot, but fun to watch.

I dislike James Cordon (not sure why.. he's a decent enough actor.. if he's good enough for Mike Leigh he's good enough for Doctor Who) but that was an enjoyable episode.
Not likely to be a favourite of the purists, but I thought it would be enjoyable cos I like Gareth Roberts as a writer. He's got skillz when it comes to writing effortless seeming, zingy dialogue.. kinda Whedonesque. There was some very funny stuff here, played to perfection.. most notable the Doctor's earnest speech when the footie guy said he was going to "annihilate" the other team; 11's wacky aspie literalism strikes again!
Corden's character and his lady were a bit of a reprise of the old RTD "look at the little people with their call centres and their pizza, aren't they wonderful?" but I think they were fleshed out pretty well.. a cruel person might say better than poor Amy has been over the course of the whole series. Roberts is obviously good at the character stuff, and I wouldn't mind him folllowing on from Moffat as showrunner. This is certainly Moffat's weakeness. I feel so bad for Karen Gillan.. she's AMAZING. Even if she weren't so beautiful she has a natural charm we haven't seen from a companion since 70s Sarah Jane and she really brings her A-game to the emotional moments like Rory's deaths and the end of the Vincent episode.. she deserves a better written character.
As with the Vincent episode, the actual plot was a bit "tacked on".. I was all "WTF?!" when I heard the upper floor was a TARDIS.. cos obviously with no Time Lords around.. half expecting some sort of villian reveal. Like a bit of explanation if possible! As a lead in to the finale this was hardly "the Master Reborn!!" or "Bad Wolf" though was it?
A lot rides on the finale in terms of my overall view of this season. My perception of this whole new Smith/Moffat era is still deeply undecided. Hoping for an ending that makes it all slip into place for me... no pressure!

Agreed Josh, basically. Amy isn't as special a character as she could play, not being written to her full potential. I liked all the soppy love stuff, and the Doctor's blatent Aspergers. That double kiss thing made my life, aw!
But you're right, the bit about the monsters was lacking. Although maybe it was supposed to be all mysterious? It did make sense though, in the Doctor Who way. Next week's looks good, but frustrating (because you won't find out what's in the faux-Pandora's box!).

What, there's been another episode again? They happen fast, don't they!?
I loved the Van Gogh one, it was really... lovely. I've always been a fan of Richard Curtis' writing.

^They happen every Saturday I've liked Vincent more than the last episode. But this one was also interresting, the Doctor seemed so happy to have a room and he's such a good footballer, I am sure he would have helped England win yesterday!

Are aliens eligible to play for England?
Well I suppose if they let robots play (hello Peter Crouch!)

I loved the doctor so hard in the last episode. I'd live a spin off with 11 where all that happens is he's awkward in human company.

hmmm i wonder how many more times will the universe be saved by 'LOVE' e.g. yes again just thinking strongly about how much you love someone? yet again?
next time lets just all sit down and think happy thoughts and those pesky aliens wont blow up the earth.

So apparently Gareth Roberts missed the last five years of Doctor Who, where the Doctor was on present day Earth - in present day London - every five fucking minutes, and met countless people without KISSING THEM ON BOTH CHEEKS? I don't think I've ever been more annoyed by something so trivial, but Eleven's eccentricities come from - should come from - the performance, not tacked on ZANY SURPRISES. A pox on the house of Roberts!
I think I really wanted to like this episode, because it was alright, but it was still a bit shit. I actually like Corden, he's a marvellous actor; he seems to play lovable losers very well, for example, despite being a MASSIVE PENIS OF A MAN. But... no. And the girlfriend? No.
The fangays have been totally freeze framing that bit where the Doctor dropped his towel, btw. Just sayin'.
NEXT WEEK: WHAT'S IN THE BOX?
My money's on Time Lords, they fell through a crack, after all.
Or Cheryl Cole as The Rani.
Cheerio, Michael. xxx
