I'm curious to know why you think Arcade Fire are second rate...I disagree, I think they're one of the few bands around at the moment that you could probably call mainstream and yet don't necessarily have that mainstream sound. They still do something different to most other bands out there; they are simultaneously difficult and accessible. (I do think Wake Up is over-rated though.) Curiously enough, you've sort of just said why I don't like them. In Britain especially where in the middle or a really bad and shallow time for indie music. In the world of Kaisers, Killers and Kooks the Arcade Fire get way to much credit just for just attempting depth and originality whilst being successful. They might sound good compared to the Pigeon Detectives but they're music is still overly-earnest and bombastic, and they still lack melody and memorable songs. Like I said a second rate "best band in the world" for second rate times. I also have sentimental attachments to Float On by Modest Mouse, for reasons I won't go into, so take that back, geekboy. I'll take it back when they go back and finish the song making it actually, you know goes somewhere. Its just one long verse! Aaaaand I wouldn't refer to Take Me Out as forgettable...I think it kick-started the 'indie' trend of this century. Once that song came out and was MEGA popular, it gave every other twat in a skinny tie and his guitar free-reign to form a band and sell out the Astoria. I'm not necessarily suggesting they were the first 'indie' band to crop up, but they were probably the first to break the mainstream, and they - and consequently, Take Me Out - have done a lot for the way the music scene has turned out today. Whether that's a good or bad thing. Nah, the indie revival had already been going 3 years when it came out. It was the Strokes who started the whole skinny tie indie thing. Take Me Out was an important moment for the indie revival hitting full momentum though. The first indie band to break the mainstream? You mean within that time frame right? I thought The Smiths where the first indie band to break into the mainstream and Blur's Parklife album ten years before Franz was when the old idea of indie died and indie became another mainstream sub-genre.

^ Yes, I mean within this time frame. The past 5-7 years or so. This world of sub-par guitar music for the sake of guitar music. Of course I didn't mean the first indie band evah, I'm not that stupid.

Oh and I'm not a big listener of modern mainstream pop music but lets face it, either Toxic by Britney Spears or Umbrella by Rihanna= single of the decade.

what a strange list!
but regarding the pipettes, i could listen to "your kisses are wasted on me" all day. i'm a sucker for drums like that. and i actually like their voices. so there.
truthfully, i didn't read past 20 because of all those arcade fire songs. i like the arcade fire but any list with so many of their songs so highly rated is kind of shit and not worth taking the time to sort through.
besides, I have no idea how to rate singles. i have no idea how to rate anything period.

He's the drummer (at least when they play live) in Animal Collective, his real name is Noah Lennox and Panda Bear is the name he goes by, in the band and when producing his own solo stuff. Bro's was the name of one of his singles.

The first two were irritatingly lo-fi but the new one, Person Pitch, is by far his best effort so far. Also, his Animal Collective songs such as Derek (Strawberry Jam) and Winter's Love (Sung Tongs) are a good place to start if you like Bros. Then listen to the rest of Animal Collective.

I really can't get into Animal Collective at all sorry, they just get on my nerves. I've listened to the Feels and Strawberry Jam albums. Not trying to launch a mega debate but not only could I don't get into them, they sort of made me want to hurl my speakers out the window in irritation.
Ha, I clearly only like GOOD music like Rihanna, The Pipettes and ELO erm...

Bloody ELO... *grumbles*
Nice to see B.O.B by OutKast up so high though. That's one hell of a song.

That's fair enough, but lots of their output has been very different. If you like Panda Bear then Sung Tongs would probably be your best bet. Maybe even just listen to his solo stuff, because it's still great.
