I mean the composition itself, it has similarities to his work, the Minimalist pizzicato and so on.

^ Yeah I see what you mean, parts of it sound slightly Owen-ish, although the song as a whole doesn't. They should so collaborate one day!!! ;D

I have wondered if they have had slight disagreements after the Owen Pallett 'Butt' Magazine interview. He does not mention Patrick in the best of lights, although, he does not insult him. Here is the link ( Warning: image of Owen Pallett's backside): www.buttmagazine.com/magazine/interviews/owen-pallett/Note: the Patrick mentioned at first is his fiance.

Here is the link ( Warning: image of Owen Pallett's backside): www.buttmagazine.com/magazine/interviews/owen-pallett/Note: the Patrick mentioned at first is his fiance. I remember someone on Owen's forum suggesting a collaboration with Patrick and Andrew Bird, here's what Owen said: "My friend The three of us all have extremely similar skill sets And yet Wildly divergent intentions." "Which is to say THOSE GUYS THOSE GUYS ARE AWESOME. But I'm more likely gonna find myself working with somebody who likes New Order as much as I like New Order and wouldn't be adverse to singing a song called "Pussyhole"." So it probably wouldn't happen but it would be wonderful if it did!!! I once read somewhere that Owen and Patrick (Wolf) used to go out (which was obviously wrong), I think some people get confused betweeen Patrick Wolf and Patrick Borjal!!! I get the feeling that Owen might be right and Patrick may not like his music much. I remember reading somewhere that Owen sent Patrick a copy of He Poos Clouds, but Patrick said he hadn't listened to it because he'd hate to not like it and Owen was his friend regardless. So I think possibly Patrick doesn't like Owen's music, or maybe thinks he might not so is scared to listen to it. But I'm sure if he heard Heartland he'd like it. I'm just speculating btw I may be entirely wrong. And also, Owen isn't mentioned in the thanks bit on any of Patrick's albums so I'm not sure they're that close. (Patrick is mentioned on Heartland though...)

Yes, I noticed Patrick in the Heartland Sleeve, It's very unusual, they probably are just friends and not musical 'allys'. I was having a discussion with a friend on the differences between them and I actually cannot find many similarities in terms of style and composition. Owen's is usually more complex with unusual time signatures and chords; Patrick seems to be the opposite. I think they are compared due to the sweeping orchestral and electronic landscapes, the use of harmonies and so on (there are also the irrelevances such as they are both gay).
I must confess that I prefer Heartland to Lupercalia (beyond any doubt), then again they are utterly unique and therefore hard to compare.

They did play together in London in 2007. Let us not forget (because it was a wonderful surprise and superb).
In case someone hadn't noticed this before:

Yeah I've seen that, I'd love them to play together again - that's part of the reason I suggested a collaboration I've never really thought their music was similar, but everyone seems to think it is (I actually discovered Owen because He Poos Clouds came up in the "listeners also bought" section of pretty much every PW album on itunes). I think you're probably right about the reasons they're always compared. Heartland is definitely my favourite non-PW album but I think I probably like all Patrick's music better than Owen's. I love Owen's music almost almost as much, but in an entirely different way. I'm not really sure how to explain - Patrick's music is more special to me, and sort of reaches in and touches my soul, but Owen's music is special to me in a different way, more like I just really REALLY like it. That probably makes no sense, it's sort of like the difference between having a really deep and enlightening conversation, and having a laugh and a really good time with your friends. But not as black and white as that.

Owen's music is less emotional and more conceptual, where-as Patrick's is more personal.

Owen's music is less emotional and more conceptual, where-as Patrick's is more personal. Totally agree. I don't focus on Owen's lyrics at all most of the time, just the atmosphere created by the music and his voice. Patrick's music has more meaning to me lyrically, as well as sounding amazing. I can't really compare the two artists: they're not really similar in any way musically.

Patrick's viola playing is more sloppy...well less fine than Owen's violin skillzzzz on stage. Don't take it badly. I didn't say it was necessarily bad.
The only thing similar for me is they both use string instruments, as an "individual" instrument, not drowned in an orchestra. That's why I started listening to both of them anyway!

I used to ignore Owen's lyrics although it is quite difficult with Heartland as it is a very complex concept album. It has it's weaknesses but I think Owen's concept are well developed.
Patrick's playing is less refined, certainly, also I have a deep love of pizzicato and Owen does it so well.
I think Owen has a rather nice voice, most of his fans don't. Perhaps it is from listening to too much Jonsi

Owen's voice is so nice and soft and aaaah. I love his voice. It's all delicate. It makes it even better when he starts shouting stuff. Because that is rare. (and makes me giggle hahaha I can't help it)

I think Natalie is about to write something about last night so I'll keep it short. I guess I'm still too overwhelmed to talk about it in whole, decent sentences anyway It was just so amazing. The acoustics where brilliant - obviously, since it was at the philharmonics - and I think this was Owen at his best. www.flickr.com/photos/tags/lastfm%3Aevent%3D1869479/interesting/ here are some photos someone posted on last.fm... I'm still smiling all the time...
