So Owen Pallett's recording name will now just be Owen Pallett, and due to an unfortunate itunes/Domino error the album was available on itunes for a brief period earlier in the week.
This has confirmed my love for the world's most talented gay violinist. Sorry Patrick. It's a masterpiece.
(Owen does thank Patrick Wolf in the notes to accompany Heartland though).

Trying to stay off the leak and waiting for the cd. Waited for years to hear this album, so a little longer shouldn't kill me. But if it's anywhere near (or even better than) Lewis Takes Action and Flare Gun, there's no doubt it'll be THE album of 2010. Which says a lot without even having heard what's coming. And I completely agree with that PW comparison. While PW's heading into mainstream pop, Owen seems to be doing something entirely different and original. This, of course, is a question of personal taste, but I'll put my money on Owen, this time around. I can't remember where, but I read something about The Great Elsewhere being sort of like something Björk would record. Is that the case, cmj? /t

I wouldn't have made the Björk comparison myself to be honest. Sure, they might be hints of electronic sounds in there, but not enough to warrant a comparison in my opinion. I do feel that the word "epic" can be confidently used to describe this, though (and in particular The Great Elsewhere).

I liked Owen the first moment I discovered his music as Final Fantasy, but he's one of those rare artists I like more and more each time I listen to him... and he seems to get better and better. I love what I've heard of the new stuff... what's funny about this thread is I was just looking online for a leaked Heartland last night but decided I really wanted to hold out for a physical copy of the CD.
He's really quite unique.. not only is he extremely talented musically in his violin playing/instrumentation but another thing I love about him is his songwriting lyrically... on the surface his songs just seem like these odd little poems but when you really look at the words you find some very interesting stories.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Owen Pallett...not as much as PW though, and for the same reasons someone said they prefer Owen I think? I think PW/his string parts always sounds a bit more messy in some way...that's probably not the best way of putting it...and this suits me more I think. But comparisons aside, I absolutely adore this man.

I love his music. I only started listening in October but when I heard his music I went to buy He Poos Clouds right away (I rarely do this) and waiting for Has a Good Home on Christmas was too long, I had to listen to it on Deezer and Youtube videos (and discovered how amazing he is live!). I'm covering Many Lives->49 MP and This Lamb Sells Condos with my violin teacher at the moment, I've never had so much fun! Whereas I usually can decipher some of the string sections on Patrick's songs, Owen's songs are more complicated to work out, but that's fine, I like playing off tune to his songs (not too much though XD).
I haven't heard Heartland yet, except Lewis Takes Action that I got from the Domino site, and the live versions of Lewis Takes Off His Shirt (live in Guelph, such an amazing performance) and other songs (I'm not sure which are going to be on the album (haven't searched)).
Also I really like the fact that he's so modest. I think his music is amazing but when you read interviews (well, I only read one or two, but still), he's always saying negative stuff about what he does and stuff. He was like "Oh I write stuff I can't even play live" in one interview xD. Anyway.
Oooh also, Jars of Lars really confuses me. I love the instrumental part and the vocal part but the lyrics are just "whaaat?".

I love everything he's done so far. I've seen him live this summer and he was amazing, even though he was ill, and because of the gig I'm now quite addicted. I've not heard Heartland yet (excluded the live performances on youtube and Lewis Takes Action) and I'm going to wait with the first listen until the ep arrives on my doormat.

Despite my efforts to resist, I listened to Heartland the other day at 5 in the morning and could barely listen all the way through because I kept wanting to go back. The insides of my ears hurt from putting it at maximum volume. I wanted to crush it up and snort it in lines to get all the sound at once. I'd eat it. I'd ice it and bring it to my wedding as the cake.
I was excited about the fact I'm seeing him soon before, but now I seriously can't wait. eeee! He's so damn good.

I'm staying off the leak although I would have downloaded it had I got to iTunes in time. I'm seeing him on the 12th so I'll just buy the album at the show and hear the songs live first.
I am SO excited for the album and the show I can barely contain myself!!
Lewis Takes Action is incredible. I've been playing it on repeat for the last couple weeks.
I am most excited to hear Lewis Takes Off His Shirt because it is just breathtaking live. I was gutted he couldn't play it at his birthday thing because he didn't have the piano.
I keep editing this to add things... oh well. As far as Owen goes I was a big fan, and then I sort of strayed away from the recorded stuff (although I can never resist a live show - even if I've missed a couple due to prior engagements - he is always so amazing), and since I heard Heartland was finally coming out I've gotten attached and become a bit of a big fan again. Although he intimidates the heck out of me in person.
Edit: Also, Twitter gossip! He's engaged? Someone on the OP forum though it was to Patrick Wolf L-O-L

He's engaged, really? I can't understand what he's talking about most of the time on Twitter anyway.
I'm seeing him live in January, I can't wait. I have school the next day and won't have time to play violin before my violin class on tuesday. I have to pray not to be a wreck like I was when I saw PW. I had talked to Victoria and the next day when I tried to play I started crying for nothing (sillyyyy) XD. I'm hoping to meet him! Victoria, have you met him? Why do you say he intimidates you so much in person (I'd probably be very intimidated too)?

I'm hoping to meet him! Victoria, have you met him? Why do you say he intimidates you so much in person (I'd probably be very intimidated too)? I've met him a few times, but a couple years ago... I guess because he seems unreasonably talented and you just feel a bit inferior in comparison? Although it's not really a good reason since he's really nice.

I hung out with Owen Pallett once. My friend and I told him about our version of TMP (it's called The Mashup Position) and he laughed and was a sweetie, and there's a cute photo of us. FACT.

I want to see the photo! I'm probably going to arrive like 4 hours before the concert or something. There's this website called La Blogotheque and they ask artists to play in weird places (well not weird but uncommon places). Maybe you guys have seen the video where Owen's playing Your Light is Spent in the street and starts running with his violin? I'd love to see that XD.

Oh my God, I love La Blogoteque. Slightly off topic here but Beirut and Yeasayer's are probably the best.... anyway, the Owen one is hilarious: "I tripped so I thought I'd pretend I'd start running instead"

HAHAHAHA I LOVE THAT VIDEO. I love that he carries on playing when he's laughing. I love blogotheque too, I have a bookmark saved but I always seem to forget to see the new ones. I DOWNLOADED A LEAK (I have pre-ordered it) but I haven't listened to it, because two songs are missing from it. So I don't know if I want to ruin the listening experience. I think I'm going to delete it. I listened to 1/2 a song and felt guilty haha. edit: As he changed the name, will the CD covers say Owen Pallett and not Final Fantasy? As the images online all say Final Fantasy. Just wondered.

That's a good point. I guess the actual cover will say Owen Pallett as Heartland was announced before the name change. Is it out on Monday or the week after? Can't wait to actually hold the record in my hand.

He said that everything with Final Fantasy written on it would be re-published with is name on it I think. This name change messes up my Last.fm charts though, Final Fantasy and Owen Pallett haven't been merged! I'm addicted to E is for Estranged (have not downloaded a leak, got it in good quality on youtube where he's singing on a cooking show: www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWDvjThWdzE ) at the moment. Also, I'm hoping I can meet him before the show to give him chocolates so he'll play a song I requested on the SHzine forum XD.

I think for us in the UK it's the 18th. When I pre-ordered it, it said the 11th but it has now changed.

I lived on that E is for Estranged video for weeks. I also have a few really good quality show recordings, including one in Manchester last year that I was at I'll try and dig them out. Ugh, lame if it's 18th. I want the 12" now!

I know it's so long away. Are you going to the show in London? I am. BY MYSELF. Yep. No one could/would come with me. I've never been to a gig alone. I'm sure it's not that uncommon.
