^ Agreed. You can enjoy the video (or not) however you like -- it's not as though a "deeper" or more analytical enjoyment is better than a "shallow" one. I like both kinds, and certainly my first thoughts on watching Telephone were more of the "ooh, shiny!" variety than anything else.
Of course it's not necessary to make an in-depth analysis of a pop music video -- it's not going to keep you alive in the desert, say -- but then you could say that about any critical analysis of art, or hell, any branch of the humanities. I'm sorry to have frustrated you, but maybe you're taking the writing too seriously. I don't agree with a lot of what's written on that blog, but I find the pieces interesting to read and think about. I'm also pretty weird! It's not like you or anyone else has to agree.
That said -- Clare, I was totally thinking about your thesis as I was writing my earlier post! I kept seeing all these parallels of monstrosity/the grotesque and the female body, which is pretty awesome. ;D

to be honest analysises of anything that seems to be grasping at straws irritates me, i don't see the point in burying your meanings so deep into something so that only a "select few" can understand

This is my favourite YouTube comment on the new video: "omg this video is even more crazier than telephone and the next thing you she'll be ripping off people's penis's like crazy which would be crazy. and that's what makes lady gaga unique"
I watched it once-- it seems MARVELOUS but I need to see it again to digest it fully. Must go vote now.

Found this on facebook! Protesters using Lady Gaga's Bad Romance! www.youtube.com/watch?v=-79pX1IOqPUAlejandro.....um....as always Lady Gaga's videos make me go "WTF." when I first see them, but I actually felt really uncomfortable watching it this time. I don't know if it's the sort of military decor or the religious symbols, I can't understand why they're there. It's so cold and argh, I felt really uneasy watching it :/. And the haircut she has at the end, it's the same as a french singer, Mireille Mathieu, who's had it foreveeeer and that disturbed me XD. It was like watching HER sing and dance. Disturbing!! XD

It's practically a huge homage to Madonna. Religious symbols = like a prayer?

I LOVE IT mmmmmmmeverything that Gaga does video wise (aside Just Dance and Poker Face but I'll excuse her those as debut singles) is just so refreshingly good. Nothing on music TV offends me anymore because I just find all of it so damn offensive I'm desensitised, so Gaga's art work is like a cold river of vaguely higher culture or something Plus she's so beautiful she can do anything, in my eyes...

I just watched it and am pretty much blown away... that was really something. I've heard that she's said it's meant to be about homo eroticism in the military, which makes sense, but is this true? I've just heard through word of mouth. I think when looking at the video it quite obviously is though, and when watching it I also thought of things such as Don't Ask Don't Tell policy, the use of symbols in patriotism, and it just seemed to have this overall theme of having to hide who you are, and the darkness that endures when you have to do that... God I always feel like people must think I'm talking Gaga Bullshit but THIS IS WHAT I SEE. God, just, everything about it was great, not only for what I just mentioned but the visuals, how the message was conveyed... the cinematography was gorgeous, and the styles and the haircuts... I like how her haircut almost made her look boy-like, like the rest of them, it was like she wasn't playing a woman, she was meant to be a man, even though her body clad in a skin tight flesh colored bikini clearly showed her womanhood... UGH THAT WAS GENIUS. GENIUUUUSSSS. I was so afraid she couldn't top Bad Romance but she really outdid herself. Side note: it must be awesome to have a lot of money and get to work with a bunch of amazing artists. She obviously has great taste.

Homo-eroticism in the military? I was detecting a theme of IMAGERY MADONNA WAS USING IN THE EARLY NINETIES. She even has 'my name is Dita' hair!
Like it, though, but it's too long, and... self-indulgent? I worry that she's reaching the point where she's becoming too famous for people to say, 'You want three and a half minutes of men in high heels and pants doing sub-par Michael Jackson routines? For real?'
It's not the single I would have released, anyway.
Cheerio, Michael. xxx

I watched it with my mum and it was awkward. SO AWKWARD. But it was cool, didn't top Telephone for me though.

I actually wasn't a huge fan of Telephone... it was quite amusing but not one I wanted to watch over and over. I think Bad Romance is the one that really has that watch-again appeal for me at least.
