Ergh. That sounds not nice/painful etc. A person I know was showing everyone this tattoo and he was like 'yeah I did this myself' because he's like that, but I don't think he actually did.

has anyone here done a homemade tattoo in any way shape or form? yes, I did this when I was 12. stupid. I should probably put this in the confessions thread.Instead of stitching I scratched the 'S' with a pair of compasses and filled the wound with black Edding(Sharpie). DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. EVER. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone and I think I had massive luck with not getting problems with it (yet..). It didn't hurt as much as I thought but it looked awful while healing. Imagine the faces of peolpe around me looking at it... The colour is gone, the scar is still there and in summer it always gets more visible.

i carved a heart into my hipwhen i was 14 then filled it with ink to be a tattoo (tbh, i think it was an afterthought, i was kind of nuts as a teenager). the ink rejected, the scar eventually faded.

Vultures - check the old letters... there might be an apostrophe somewhere in there...maybe. Or a comma or something. I'd imagine it would have to be quite large if you want all the detail in the drawings, especially the unicorn. Do what I did and print it out, tape it to where you want it, and see how it looks (there is probably a better way to do this... is there anything like the ink paper things they put on you before you get tattooed?)

I don't mean to be a killjoy, but Vultures I reckon you should wait a few years before getting a huge Patrick Wolf tattoo across your back. You're only 17 (and I'm not being patronizing, because I'm only 16) and in ten years time it may not mean the same to you as it does now.

I have a couple in mind that I really, really want, but... it's the bit where you have to go into the tattoo place, and ask the big bald guy with the bleeding swastika on his fat neck if he'll do Max from Where the Wild Things Are and 'this thing from the last Harry Potter book' that puts me off. The hysterical laughter and outright scorn scares me more than the pain... Cheerio, Michael. xxx aww, michael, most the tattooists i know/have met are massive nerds so i wouldn't worry too much

I've got a Harry Potter tattoo designed already. I want 'let no foot mark your ground, let no hand hold you down' but can't think where it would go, in what font, and with or without foot/hand prints.

My friend's ex had a tattoo of a magpie on one side of his chest, and he's going to get the second done when he's married, because they mate for life. Aww.

I'd love a tattoo one day, probably a favourite Philip Larkin line or something. 'Though white is not my favourite colour', or the last verse of High Windows or something.

Also, i agree with flozz - i first decided i wanted a poodle & unicorn in 2004 & waited till 2009 & 2010 respectively to get them done. However, I genuinely believe that if something will always remind you of a time / place in your life (e.g. a musical obsession) then that's kind of nice to commemorate on your body forever. fuck getting old, i reckon visible tattoos are only growing in acceptability anyway. I agree completely! I decided when I was about 15 that I wanted a bird, and where I wanted it. Two years later I decided on the WITW bird, and two and a bit years after that I actually got it done. Two and a half years later I have zero regrets. I was watching Tyra today, and they were talking with people who got their bf/gf's names tattooed and now they want them removed, etc... and there's some new ink on the market that can be removed in 1/3 of the treatments of regular tattoo ink, but it poses the question: Why would you get a tattoo if you're maybe thinking eventually you'd have it removed? In other words, make sure you are absolutely sure before you get ink'd. I'd like another tattoo... not sure of what. I have some ideas but I need to get some of my artsy friends to draw something up for me. Edit: I know I've posted it in the past, but not in this thread, so here's mine (obviously this is right after it was done, but it's the best photo I have of it):
