I just got the Promo CD which I'm guessing will have all of the same tracks as the final CD......these songs are unbelievable I don't understand how he can come up with these melodies. I won't spoil anything for anyone but I just felt that I should increase the excitement surrounding the CD nobody will be dissapointed!

I'm not sure how it compares to albums one and two. I have to live with it a bit more.
It's certainly another chapter though.
I was blown away on first listen myself..

i don't think with patrick it's about comparing the albums at all. i think he just likes to be different with every album and he's definitely proved he can do it with all the conviction he has.

doesn't Enchanted sound completely out of place?
it just sounds weird. it doesn't even sound like a filler.

I maybe could have tolerated it if the whole album was going for the happy/joy vibe, but since the section of songs from The Bluebell up to Secret Garden interrupt that anyway then I just can't see the point at all. Even one of his weaker B-sides like Adder or Underworld would have been preferable.

I actually like Enchanted. It would be tiresome in large doses butt its nice to hear Patrick sing in the lounge style.
Finale however is a waste of tape...

i count 10 full songs...and then the bluebell, the kiss, and finale.
but any matter, i'd rather have 8 good songs than 3 good songs and 10 crap ones like i've noticed on a lot of albums...

it does seem a bit... meh... there's only 8ish full songs... Yeah overly long albums full of filler are a real problem in modern music. That said though ace as it is, Magic Position is a few (good!) songs short of a great album. I don't have a problem with short songs or short instrumentals The "short" interlude-esque pieces on Wind In The Wire like Jacobs Ladder and Eulogy where great songs in their own right where as the short little instrumentals on The Magic Position are fairy forgettable and pretty much what lets the album down in my opinion. But I won't moan too much, It's a fab album one of 2007's best in my opinion its just not a "classic" but its another step forward for Patrick. It doesn't have the strength in depth of material that Lycanthropy and WITW do, but its just a totally different kind of experince to those albums, a whole different vibe.

Yeah, it does seem a little short of songs, but length-wise I think it runs for more or less just as long as WitW and Lycanthropy. I think if the whole album had a more coherent atmosphere/vibe then it wouldn't seem so unfulfilling, but as it stands at the moment it's as if the great songs are almost scattered around and so that has a detrimental effect on the album as a whole.

I'm not speechless. its an album good for the time but I'll end up for getting about it then picking it up in summer and saying its the best album.

To be honest though yeah maybe in ten or twenty years when the time comes to reflect back on Patrick Wolf's body of work, I'm not sure we'll be talking about the Magic Position as Patrick Wolf's "best" or most complete album.
But the fact remains Patrick has never wrote songs like The Magic Position and Get Lost before, hes never done anything like The Stars before and for my money he never pulled off the theatrical/fantastical thing with as much authority and success as Augustine and Magpies.
The album seems easier to digest than Wind In The Wires, a album with so many epic, dramatic ballads and crescendos, it could almost wear you out in large doses.
It's great to watch Patrick develop and grow up musically, as it happens.
