The album seems easier to digest than Wind In The Wires, a album with so many epic, dramatic ballads and crescendos, it could almost wear you out in large doses. It's great to watch Patrick develop and grow up musically, as it happens. Yeah! I agree totally. I really, really, like it when musicians/bands I like challenge themselves and their fans with each record. It's not really a BREATHTAKING album but it's good, the first six tracks are the best.

I thought my love for Patrick had died out, but I guess it was still living in some corner of my heart, because this CD has rekindled my love for him. Magic Position is not nearly as tightly knit as Wind in the Wires, but I don't really mind the mismatched feeling of the album... most of the songs are strong enough to distract me.

I hate it. It's one of the worst things I've ever listened. When you listen to what's going on in Lycanthropy, it makes your heart die a bit when you think of the nonsense he's churning out now. I tried to like it. I wanted to like it. But now I have to admit, I'm a bit embarrassed to say I like Patrick Wolf, because of this shameful new album. All the "good" songs are not lasting; they're utterly forgettable and predictable. You know exactly where it's going to go on. My good friend likened The Magic Position (song) to Dexys' Midnight Runners' "Come On Eileen", as in, it's good with one play, but gets rather wearisome time after time. =/ He could have done so much better, and I wish he would go back to being interesting, instead of the bland, average human being he is on the new album. Also, Joshua is great. It had to be said, as a final, nice point. Joshuu. <333333

It only takes one finger on shift and four taps with another finger to type IMHO. I hate that stupid abbreviation, but come on: compare your reaction to dozens of others and you'll notice there's quite a bit of variety there. I refuse to be the subject of your second person singular.
And I think calling anyone a "bland, average human being" is going a bit far towards a personal insult rather than a critique of artistic merit. Nobody is a bland, average human being. And thank goodness for that.

It wasn't a personal attack. I just dislike generalisations. I for one have listened to The Magic Position from the podcast more times than is healthy. One man's trash is another man's treasure, etc. I'm just going to be bugging all day that I put "second person singular" which is clearly wrong...

Also, Joshua is great. It had to be said, as a final, nice point. Joshuu. <333333 This is common knowledge. But thanks, I think these undeniable truths can't be re-stated enough. You're not too shabby yourself. I love how you've gone postal on these Magic Position threads, you rule. I really like the Magic Position it is a better album than Wind In The Wires even if it has less good songs (hahah I know that sounds totally nonsensical...) You can't please all the people, all the time I guess. Ps, someone will probably talk some nonsense at you about it not being the final version now.

I told you I was going to get trashed by the Patrick luvvies. Joshua, I'm clearly stealing your identity from the old days..! Bring back the Chav!!!!! Anyway, I can't help but wonder if you're a "new" fan, birdwhistle. Perhaps you weren't there at the start, when this board was talking about actually interesting songs and thrilling over them. I think too many people are just taken in by the myth and not actually listening to Patrick Wolf objectively. You can't lie to your ears, no matter how many times you listen to "The Magic Position" and watch the WITW video with the sound off. Give me Lycanthropy, and I'll lick the wolf's feet. I'm not going to claim something's good, when it's blatantly not. I'm sorry that Patrick Wolf put so much work into something that is subpar, when he could achieve so much more. Perhaps somebody will use the argument that if it was anybody else it would be astounding, but it's not anybody else. And that's the problem. It would be easy to make excuses for somebody who wasn't as gifted or insightful as Patrick Wolf has previously shown himself to be. I feel as though he has forced it out for this one, and it jars and flops about like a creme caramel. Anyway, I think it's hilarious how somebody giving an anti-MP opinion gets smashed down. This is a board for Patrick Wolf fans, and I would definitely count myself as one of them...I just despise the new album. =/

'Sall the same thing, m'homie. Err, also, birdwhistle, I hope I wasn't offensive to you. Joshua thinks it might read as offensive, and if you're reading it as that, then re-read and don't be offended..?

Goodbye and Hello/Ceyland, Pas du tout. Maybe I ought to emphasise the only beef(zzz!11) I was having was with the fact you were expressing an opinion as a truth, and that always bothers me. In my opinion the new album's better than most, though I wouldn't place it anywhere near Lycanthropy either. And trust me, I can do objectivity. I think a lot of the songs on Wind in the Wires are kind of shite, particularly the title track and its incorrigible video. Please don't lump me in as a doe-eyed "luvvie" just because I'm new. Just because I'm not intimately acquainted with y'all and your histories, it doesn't mean I'm not intimately acquainted with this music and from whence my opinions are coming. Newbies are people too. Sorry if I got off to a bad start with my elders (in forum terms).

This album is amazing. I just, I almost forgot he was this good, you know? I was a little hesitant before listening because I'd thought that most good pop died in the nineties, but, oh no. This is just so spectacular.
