Another person just bought 500 Bandstocks - Ed Ling. Along with the other 500er, that's 10,000 pounds towards Battle just on their behalfs. This is obviously great news for the album, I'm just concerned that if they are music industry types (which certainly one is) they may try and influence the album in certain ways, especially since they have such large stakes in it.

I think it clearly says on the website that it is a financial investment and you dont have a say or an influence. maybe they just have faith in him and that they will see etheir money back. or can afford to loose that much. if I had a spare £100,000 I would have happily bought all the stocks and let him get on with the album.

Stock lesson! Public companies sell stocks in order to finance themselves (or part). At period intervals dividends are paid to stock owners, and it is a small amount in comparison to the price of the stock. Stockholders "own" part of the company but cannot really influence since the owners of the firm own 51%+ of all the available stock. The benefit of buying stock comes when (if) you sell it at a price higher to make a profit.
As far as Bandstocks goes it hasn't really been explained how the dividends are paid, or whether it will be after a period of time and one lump sum. Think of the £100 000 as the publicly available stock, like the 49% or less available from public holding companies. As far as I know there isn't a way to influence Patrick Wolf's own business decisions by purchasing stock. Also, I don't believe bandstocks are transferrable, so selling your stock to someone else in the case that there is information that you probably won't get your whole £10 back you may be stuck. Which is why you really have to make sure you can risk to lose the money you invest.
As it's been explained, Patrick will get 50%, Bandstocks will get 30%, and stockholders will get 20%. This means in order to get your whole £10 back, there must be £500 000 in revenue.
If I've got this all totally wrong tell me and I'll edit it all away. It's just that people in this thread seem really confused as to what owning stock actually means. This is all from my accounting/finance study and not on my actual knowledge of Bandstocks, so make sure you read the FAQ/Information on Bandstocks before you invest.

Hi,
there is still no international option up... I have so far bought stocks using a friend's UK address and my own credit card. I just hope that this is kind of counting. I mean as far as I understand this, we only buy options and when the deadline is over (they continually increase it though) only then do they look into all the accounts that are set up and decide which ones are valid and only after that you are a real investor. So I very much hope that the international buying gets sorted out.
And I invested because I believe in his music and I love to be able to help out with the new album(s) getting made.

Me too, I'm just worried that these big spenders may want more for their investment. If their hearts are pure though (which I'm fairly sure they are) then my most profuse thanks for them being so bloody generous!

So, you bandstocks is international nao, eh? soon enough. Sorry, quick question, are the limited edition albums £30? i'm not sure. the bandstocks website says fan investors get the right to buy "a signed limited edition of the album at a discount".

I really want to invest... out of showing support for Patrick's music. It just depends how much shares will cost internationally. As an "International" part of the tribe, would we have the chance for secret shows and whatnot?

Is there any way of sending a mass message to people who are friends with Patrick on the official Myspace (whoever is in control of it)? Explaining the Bandstocks etc. Maybe that way people will read the information on it, as people might not go on the page often etc. They wouldn't be friends with him if they weren't interested (although I do know some bands/artists do use popular musicians to spam the comment space to promote their own music, but a small percentage I'm sure) so maybe this is an option? I'm not sure if it's possible, obviously it would take years to send a message to each individual. But obviously, I personally didn't know about Bandstocks until I checked the Myspace myself. If everyone on there wanted to buy one, then all the stocks would be gone in no time.
I only have one stock so far, but I'm happy that I've at least contributed a little.

the myspace blogs go out as a bulletin as well, so everyone on his myspace friends list should've received at least something, even if they're not subscribed to his blog. i don't know if they would mass-message people privately, though. when patrick posts a new video blog or a new myspace blog, there are more hits to bandstocks (roughly 3000) but it's not guaranteed that any one of those people will buy/have bought a bandstock...

Yeah, the bulletin thing is good, but it's always a gamble who will see it - as if others post lots of bulletins then it'll get pushed back pretty quickly. At least people are aware of it - when I first read about it I was unsure, maybe people need time to come around to the idea because it's so new. It took me a few weeks It frustrates me that it's only just over 25% of the way there though!

that's the main reason i made this post, just to see what the issues were surrounding everything. like, why when there are so many hits per day, is no one buying anything? but i do understand a little bit better now. it's a godsend that the international section is live, now. i can't wait till monday to see how much the grand total has gone up
