I'm so pleased now for the brighton crowd, it was seated and they were so quiet and respectful and everyone was completely into it and really enjoyed it. Looks like Brighton and Bristol were the best.

i was at this show and it was quite frankly, weird... firstly because of its location, an art gallery. i thought perhaps it would be bigger and with seating, but no, it felt like we were all just stuffed into a corridor with patrick at one end performing. luckily i was on the guestlist and befriended the security people so i got in first and got to go to the front, but i was under the impression that i actually had to do something for the street team. the person who arranged it wasn't there, and no one knew what i was meant to be doing, no one even had my name (my name on the guestlist was street team (+1), i assume my friend was called +1).
so after much deliberating, i decided not to bother with the street team thing, even though i'd spent a few bob on some clipboards and pens. we went to the front, and after taking so long to let us in due to "technical problems" i figured the show would commence pretty soon... wrong.. i don't know the exact times but it always feels longer when you're standing in a crowd with nothing to do. i was right by the speakers on the right hand side of the stage, pictures will be on sunday when i get home from thornaby.
the gig itself was fine, i felt the renditions of songs (especially the new ones) were much better than what i'd heard previously in leicester, i don't know if it was because of the acoustics or the venue or something else within patrick, but i did enjoy myself. even if i couldn't dance because i was being crushed into the speaker.
the thing that ruined my night for me, personally, was that while dev was playing, some obviously wasted young boy squeezed his way to the front, next to me, pushing me etc. when i turned to have a word with him as my stuff was on the floor and he was trampling all over it, and encroaching on my personal space, he HUGGED me. sorry, i don't really enjoy strangers touching me in any sort of way. i got really uncomfortable and thought 'okay, i'll just ignore him' so i shifted to the side and then... he grabbed my ass. a couple of times. a few good grabs, anyway. then i told the security lady at the front and after about five more minutes of his swaying and generally annoying everyone around us, she got him removed from the venue. i'm sorry for his friends that had to look after him, but if you can't handle your drink, DON'T FUCKING DRINK SO MUCH. even better, don't fucking grab at me like i'm an object. the security lady came back in and told me that he took a swing at her and started going nuts so the bouncers had to pin him to a chair, and then when they suggested taking him home he gave about four different addresses and was being stupidly violent so they called the police.
so that set me in a strange mood for the rest of the night. after the gig was finished, we all clapped and cheered but then everyone stopped, and i was sure patrick wouldn't come back on stage to a crowd that weren't cheering/clapping and obviously didn't want him to come back on... i knew we'd get ushered out. if you enjoy an artist and want an encore, i'm sorry, you have to show the artist that you enjoyed the gig. you don't just stand there in silence and expect him to make a reappearance.

Middlesbrough is a bit of a gob-hole. Not the worst place I've been to, but it's on the list. Sorry ducky! the thing that ruined my night for me, personally, was that while dev was playing, some obviously wasted young boy squeezed his way to the front, next to me, pushing me etc. when i turned to have a word with him as my stuff was on the floor and he was trampling all over it, and encroaching on my personal space, he HUGGED me. sorry, i don't really enjoy strangers touching me in any sort of way. i got really uncomfortable and thought 'okay, i'll just ignore him' so i shifted to the side and then... he grabbed my ass. a couple of times. a few good grabs, anyway. then i told the security lady at the front and after about five more minutes of his swaying and generally annoying everyone around us, she got him removed from the venue. i'm sorry for his friends that had to look after him, but if you can't handle your drink, DON'T FUCKING DRINK SO MUCH. even better, don't fucking grab at me like i'm an object. the security lady came back in and told me that he took a swing at her and started going nuts so the bouncers had to pin him to a chair, and then when they suggested taking him home he gave about four different addresses and was being stupidly violent so they called the police. I have to say that I am really really sorry to you. Because while I wasn't at this gig (I've recently moved to Sheffield so saw the Wolfster there), for some reason I just knew that the guy you're on about is one of my best friends. And I phoned him, and he said he can't remember anything except he got thrown out and that a girl said he was making her feel uncomfortable. He is such an arsehole and I am incredibly angry at him for this. He can't hold his drink at all, and he probably didn't mean any harm by it, he just gets really stupid. It doesn't make it any better, but he is gayer than Christmas, and I think sometimes he believes this to be an excuse for what people would consider 'general lechery'. I'm so glad I wasn't there with him. I cannot apologise to you enough.

Don't feel bad Jay - I've done the same thing myself (got someone chucked out, that is, not felt up someone else's arse), and when someone gave me a dirty look over it just said 'Well, did you want him spewing all over you?'
I'm sure I feel a rant coming on about gig talkers/people being so wankered at gigs they don't even know where they are/people whose only reason for going to a gig is just to say they've been, so I'm going to leave the internet alone for a few minutes...

also, i think another influence on the way the crowds have turned out has been the seating/standing factor - when people are told to sit down, something must happen in our brains and we feel like we need to be quieter as well i dont know wether MIMA was seating or standing, but all the recordings/videos of the church gigs with people sitting, seem really quiet x x Bristol was standing too and the crowd was amazing, really quiet and in a great mood, whilst Exeter was standing and the crowd was... mediocre. i was at both of those too, and i was really surprised at the difference. I really enjoyed the Exeter gig (apart from the so-drunk-he-couldn't-stand lad in front of me having to be helped out by his uninterested "friends"), it seemed really really intimate, but the Bristol one was SO much fun, it blew me away. It's amazing what a difference a crowd makes.

I wonder whether the crowd difference was driven by Patrick being so tense at Exeter, and so effervescent at Bristol.

It doesn't make it any better, but he is gayer than Christmas yeah, the security lady said his friends told her to tell me he was gay, but frankly i don't care, he still touched me. being gay is not a get out of jail free card or an excuse to make someone feel really uncomfortable. but hey, thanks for the apology, there's no hard feelings.

I know, it's no excuse. Things like this make me glad that I moved so far away from them.

I think it was also the setlist... shadow sea, demolition etc. vs. accident & emergency, overture etc... btw, there was a lady who talked to me at Bristol because she had already seen me in Exeter.. was that one of you? :-)

Hello again; I'm delighted to say you're the first Wolfboarder I've ever met. ;D Great pictures Jay. i was about to say it wasn't me, but i guess that's obvious now! in bristol did either of you two see PW walk past all wrapped up in towel and scarves and surrounded by security guards on his way to the disabled toilet? it was the least inconspicuous thing ever, but very amusing!

haha i wish i had seen that, all i saw of him outside of the gig was afterwards when he came out in his grey hoodie with the eye things, with two friends and looking rather moody :/ i've jsut realised there were quite a lot of you in bristol and i didn't say hello to a single one ! i'm sorry, i was the one with ginger hair and a big fake fur coat and what looks like the fringing off a lamp wrapped round my head, so feel free to say hello if you ever see me again
