Ooh I never came back here to read the replies but ana it's great that you had an original idea. Speaking of my love for lace (literally I've always loved lacey things but they tend to be expensive...) I bought this dress from topshop, which is funny because I NEVER shop at topshop because it's too expensive but I saw it when I was at work and I thought it was perfect for me. www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=true&catalogId=19551&storeId=12556&categoryId=151405&parent_category_rn=42344&productId=1433044&langId=-1WELL you can barely even see it. But oh my gooooshhh I've never gushed at something so much. I just need somewhere to wear it. Anyway I wanted advice. It looks really nice on it's own, but actually I don't know what to wear it with. Weirdly I tried it on with a red belt and I think it looked really nice (I have weird taste though, red probably isn't supposed to go with cream) maybe another coloud belt, I'm not sure what though. I had black tights on when I first tried it on and decided that was a no-no. But actually they were cotton and not sheer and in my head some sheer ones may look lovely. I should try that. Do you think any form of tights would go with it? Like a really pale grey? Hmmm. And I haven't really thought about shoes. Most of my shoes are actually quite 'busy'. Nethertheless I am in love with it.

The dilhemma (is that spelled correctly?): My school has changed the VIth form dress code to "on/below the knee skirts" whereas before it was "an inch above the knee or longer". So I now have no skirts/dresses I can wear and only a handful of jeans, which is a real blow seeing as I don't exactly want to be wearing the same things every couple of days. Thing is, cos I'm quite little, it's kind of hard to rock a long skirt without making your legs look like this Any ideas? P.S I'm practically skint which doesn't help either.

My idea is that you should ignore the dresscode The dresscode for my current school and my middle school was "skirts on or below the knees", but most people's barely cover their buttcheeks.

IGNORE IT. Wear a long coat or pull your skirt down discreetly everytime you see a teacher. We're not allowed jeans in our 6th form...

You could always try making skirts Katrick, they're really easy and cheap. Dress-codes suck and although if they weren't there some people would go nuts and just spoil it for those with sensible taste. But they're the ones to ignore dress-codes anyway. My college has no strict dress-code there are peple who go around in tights and t-shirts so I figure I can get away with shortish skirts. If you wear tights/leggings you can always protest you're 'properly covered'. Or try shorts, because they can't complain cos it's not a skirt?

Thanks for all the advice peeps but this woman is tyrranical* I was gonna try making my own skirts but all the patterns I've found are rough. Like, proper old-woman style shit, with elasticated-cord waistbands complete with toggles What doesn't make sense is that even though I always wear very opaque tights with my skirts (my legs are freakishly pale and I have skanky scarred-up knees), that's been banned while people can wear leggings with little tops that don't cover their behinds and that's fine! GRRR! *I love this word...
