We need some community rules. In the interest of my being too busy with work and too fucking lazy when I get home democracy, I think we should write the rules as a community.
Sensible ones get stickied. Fun times.

1) Don't be a jerk. 2) Have some common sense. 3) Posts should be reasonably readible, i.e. text speak to a minimum 'cos this ain't a chatroom.

If you feel forced to respond just for the sake of responding, don't.
(;
(Whether this is sensible or not is subjective. I think.)

The first forum I ever joined (I think I was twelve or so) had a rule: make sure that every post you make contributes to the thread in some way. I try to follow this rule in my posts, but I know I've faltered and am not very strict about it sometimes. I know this thread isn't about me, but it's only my own actions that I have control over and can talk about.
Some General Guidelines Concerning Common Sense About Posting On The Internet That Perhaps Other People May Find To Be Of Note:
Before hitting "post" take two seconds and think: Does my post contribute to the thread? Could my post be construed as blatently off-topic? Would this post be better suited as a PM or topic of disussion on MSN, AIM, etc? Has someone said what I'm saying alreay and I'm just posting "I agree" without any clarification or elaboration? Would anyone give a shit?
Also: we do have an Off-Topic Thread that people may want to employ.
Just trying to help

Conversations longer than one page of back and forth not pertaining to the thread can get annoying.
edit: Even shorter than one page are annoying. It's just annoying. And messy.

An awareness of the PM button would be nice.
A 'no spamming' rule is really all I ask for. Oh yeah, and a no txt spk one, too. Otherwise, anything goes. Except pictures of lemonparty. That's just mean.

In one forum I'm on, there is a rule: when you start a thread, it must generate some sort of discussion. If the thread just consists of, "Wow, today I did this!" or something along those lines, the threadmaker is not only told about the rule by the community, but it is also locked by a moderator. I think this rule would probably prevent me going psycho and killing myself.

I was tempted to type: ''i will think before i type''
But i can't see that happening, I would like anyone who any problems with my posts to PM me and we will try and sort through this little problemo. (cause im not being big headed or nowt but i can see i may get some backlash if this comes into power)

1) The author of a thread should be able to (if they want to) write: 'Please stay on-topic' in the first post of their thread. And everyone posting in that thread has to respect their wishes, so to speak, and move any correspondence which is starting to go off-topic into the Official Off-Topic Thread.
The no text speak is a good one too, maybe: 2) Hit the 'spell check' button before you post, or at least proof read, if your post is more than one sentence long.

Anyone found guilty of spam should be locked in the forum forum.

When I moderated a forum, my only real rule was to just not be rude to each other. I didn't have any rules to keep things interesting because everyone is different as to what they find interesting.

No gays. No Jews. No immigrants. Don't forget the most important one: No muslims. All stinkin' terrorists, that's what I say etc. (I actually heard a guy saying that on the train today. It was most distressing)
