Totally just posted this in the feminism thread.
Apart from the fact that it's fucking disgusting, tear-worthy and upsetting; it's a typical example of sexism in the courts. How many times do judges just take the fucking piss when convicting rapists?
I yelled at the TV when I heard about this and then stormed off for a smoke and a sniffle.

Don't read The Daily Mail Laura it will corrode your soul. haha, I don't. I read the metro on the way to work in the morning and this was front page. I wanted to post it on here and that was the first google news result (I couldn't find it on BBC news). It's awful. I can't believe the man is still a judge. I mean, "young woman"? and this too: "The same judge caused uproar earlier this year by setting free another paedophile and telling him to give his victim money "to buy a nice new bicycle". " Even if the alleged paedophile IS just a stupid twat, he still deserves the sentence that would be expected. It strikes me that he is a pretty questionable type anyway, considering that he must of been trying to pick up young teenage girls at a park. Oh yeah, and by no means should a female or ANYONE be accused of 'wanting it' just because of how they dress. Absolute bullshit.

Poor little girl never stood a chance in life, did she?
In care at the age of four, wandering the streets in grown up clothes, a frilly bra and thong at the age of ten, raped and then taken to someone else's house to be sexually assaulted, and then referred to as a 'young woman' by the Judge who really is meant to see her as a child.
What does it matter that she looked like she was 16? Rape's rape, and these two rapists were obviously targeting very young looking girls. The Judge should be taking a stand and making sure that other kids are protected from predatory paedophiles rather than telling them to go and buy their victims a fucking bike.

It isn't even just the laws, it's some crooked judge who I personally find a wee bit suspect.

I heard this on the radio and had a bit of a "wtf?" moment before deciding I'd misheard it. However, to make this thread not completely and utterly awful, a less depressing news story (or rumour ) is that Gordon Brown may be repealing SOCPA!

I fucking hate Gordon Brown. Fucking worst export from Scotland ever.
However, he would be slightly redeemed in my eyes if this went ahead and the fucking sicko rapist got a proper sentence.

You know, the majority of the public are in favour of bringing back hanging.

I was at work recently and some girls who were about 16 or 17 came in. They weren't dressed provocatively at all, they were wearing skirts and such but I wouldn't call it provocative. When they left, my manager started talking about how there were more paedophiles about because young girls dress 'innapropriately' and basically insinuated it was the girls' faults for dressing in a certain way. I had to walk away before I started telling him he was a stupid female reproductive organs because frankly, I need the damn job. I can't stand the disgusting way of thinking that a girl who's dressed in miniscule clothes is asking for it and therefore, if she is raped, her attacker should be given a lesser sentence. Vile sexism and sheer ignorance. The Daily Mail, however, is a piece of shit that should never ever ever be trusted, or read, at all, ever. www.mailwatch.co.uk

"after asking a test sample of 10 people 75.3% of British adults are in favour in reinstating capital punishment" Quite. Right-wing, old-fashioned papers like the Daily Mail or the Express are usually the ones who carry out these 'surveys', asking if people want capital punishment brought back. They are not representative because they're polling their readers, i.e. right-wing and old-fashioned. And only a couple of hundred (or whatever) are polled, i.e. 0.x% of the total number of adults in this country. People who take part in these 'surveys' usually also vote for the banning of the niqab, and then react in moral outrage when a school or workplace does not allow someone to wear a crucifix. I.e. idiots.
