I'm a little surprised that this cover is causing people to condemn obesity in this way. Maybe I've been living in the American Midwest for too long, but honestly, do any of you know any really obese people? Do you know anything about it at all? Just because someone is "fat" doesn't mean a thing about their eating habits. Genetics has a much larger role in body size than anyone wants to admit. I know plenty of skinny people who eat like pigs day in and day out and don't exercise at all, yet don't gain a single pound, whereas my mother (who has been very obese for my entire life) can go on any number of diets and not lose any weight. In fact, the only time in her life she lost any weight was when she just said "fuck it" and started eating whatever she wanted to. I am not saying in any way that it's good to be fat, or that it's not a health risk, but jesus, do we really need to be going around saying that more than it's already being said? Trust me; every single fat person KNOWS that their lives would be "better" if only they were skinnier. They're told many times a day by all sorts of people, but honestly, it's better to just let the "fat" thing go and focus on making people healthy. Beth Ditto might actually be REALLY healthy for all we know. She does have to be pretty fit to be able to perform so often. Did anyone consider that maybe it's just hereditary? In any case, people have a right to be fat if they want to, just like they have the right to drink and smoke and do other stupid things that endanger their health. It's nobody's business but their own. Actually, my father is more toward the obese end at this point in his life, and its not genetic. He also refuses to go on a diet because he KNOWS that his life will not be better if only he was skinnier. He hates dieting. But obesity is NOT genetic. Obesity is being large to unhealthy proportions. You can be genetically large, and perfectly healthy just like you said. Although, I don't think weighing as much as she does and appearing that way is genetic.

Well I'm glad shes not ashamed though I'm concerned with the motives of NME/The Media regarding her, and also the questionable concept of someone being famous primarily for their body size.
But I'm not ashamed either to say that, that cover is a genuinely beautiful photograph, and she looks beautiful in it.

hey, if their skinny friend constantly eats a lot of fatty foods, chances are the symptoms will manifest themselves in completely different, way more serious ways than a bit of cellulite. I am not claiming to be a saint when it comes to eating, but if I had a problem such as CHD, diabetes or even something as shallow as becoming fat (to me, it is not attractive) then I'd go out of my way to fix it. My problem is people who have problems, but refuse to fix them. To me, being obese is a problem because it affects you in detremental ways (whether anyone chooses to admit it or not), hence my problem with Beth Ditto. I just find some of her views to be a bit 'off'. but free speech an' all that et cetera... well, this is where I start to have a problem with your argument because it's getting personal and judging people and their actions based on YOUR standards of what's attractive and acceptable as a way of life. maybe it's not as big of a deal to them, and they'd rather spend their life doing something more meaningful, or maybe they don't think they're as ugly as you apparently do. Going by your logic, if I thought your nose was grotesquely huge and didn't like the way you drove, I should have you in surgery tomorrow morning and take away your driver's license because the first is unattractive and the second is "dangerous". and now I'm getting a bit rude. My apologies. I think I'm going to have to just agree to disagree with you on this one and let it go. I'm used to being in the minority on this issue; no big deal. I think you're taking this FAR TOO SERIOUSLY. In the end, it's her life and I'm all for living and let live. Whether I think she is pretty or not is a non-issue, and it was really just meant to be a little aside. just because I don't think she's an uuber hottie doesn't mean I'm a bad person. I don't agree with her opinion, chances are, she doesn't agree with mine. I'm not claiming to be the queen of life'cause I'm not. It's just talk, I'm not ordering change...

Ugh, I'm sick of the media paying so much attention to looks. Yes, it's nice to feel/be attractive, but your appearance is subjective. Some people will think you're beautiful, some won't even want to look at you.

I think the sad thing is despite The Gossip not being exactly my thing, she really is fucking talented. She has one hell of a voice.

Maybe if the women just dismissed questions about her weight, this wouldn't be happening!
PS: indeed Josh, she has quite the set of lungs...

I think she'd look fine if it weren't for the face. I'm not a fan of the make up or her expression, what can i say?

sorry for being a drama queen. I've had to deal with this kind of crap for my whole life, though, so 1) it touches a nerve and 2) my patience gets worn down a little bit more with every conversation.
