Overeating is an eating disorder too!

Not all large people over-eat
Not all ultra-skinny people have an eating disorder.
If someone over eats or has an eating disorders its their own problem and not for anyone else to judge.
End of discussion, peoples bodies are their own business and if Beth Ditto wants to use heres to make some sort of statement well good for her, but of course since it's a "statement" it's more open to debate.

Well since she has decided to make it such an issue, she opens herself up to criticism and silly bitchings too.
You're right when you say large people don't necessarily over-eat, but that's when it's their natural body size, which I can assure you that Miss Ditto's isn't. She seems to get quite a lot of exercise in her gigs, so what else am I or other to presume?
I'm okay with her promoting people to be happy with what they see in the mirror, but I take issue with anyone who promotes obesity as something which should be accepted. It shouldn't.

Oh, I know that. A good friend of mine is very large, but its most definetly genetic. You can sort of tell by how the fat looks, kind of. It's hard to explain. Like, if its genetic, you kind of look big boned?
I get really mad if anyone calls one of my best friends anorexic, which happens a lot, i mean, she is so skinny and short, but it's because before she was born, her mother smoked and she got choked with the umbilical chord and had to be born early.
I think there is a healthy medium. *nods* I think thats what we need more of in pop culture, normal looking people. Not disproportionately skinny models who don't eat a thing, and not people who are overweight to make a statement.
I don't really know much about this girl, though. So I'm not quite sure what she's about.

Why shouldn't it be accepted? Is people are happy being obese (keeping in mind not all obesity is down to or entirely down to over-eating) good for them. No one had a right to judge. Unhealthy? Yes, but lots of things are unhealthy. Since when did people feel the need to evangelicals for good health? I think people have to at least admit Beth Ditto is quite brave to be so unashamed about this, considering the ridicule she gets. To me not giving a fuck what people think, is a lot more of an attractive quality than a skinny waist line.

People will bitch whatever happens.
Looks are always open to criticism. It's what people do. We judge other people. By looks or talents or intelligence or anything.
And then people will bitch that other people are judging another person for their looks/talents/intelligence/etc. Which in itself is judging that person for their actions.
You can't win this one.

I don't think ugly human characteristics should be blindly accepted as "normal" yes a degree of judgmentalness is hard to avoid, but I don't think enough people are trying hard enough to avoid it in this day and age. It's a lot easier to just say "oh, it's just human nature" then actually struggling to be a better human being.

Haven't people always been eveangelical about good health? I mean, why wouldn't you WANT to be? You really have to hate people if you keep it a big secret.
And Jose, people can be perfectly interesting without being overly skinny or fat.

When kids die before their parents do and get Type 2 Diabetes at 13, you know something's wrong. It's way more unhealthy than drugs or smoking. I've studied the effects of obesity and IT AFFECTS EVERYTHING. I could be wrong, but it's surely a direct cause of one of the biggest killers (Coronary heart disease etc.). I'm sorry, but soon I will be paying tax, and I would like it to be going to something worthwhile, rather than some idiot's insulin who couldn't just say no to a tube of smarties once in a while. And yeah, I agree that having a kickass personality is better than being thin. That wasn't my point at all. Not everyone's thin and I get that. I'm not a complete idiot!

Because people aren't stupid, if they're doing something unhealthy, I'm pretty sure the majority of them know it. Like I said peoples bodies are their own business.

That's very true. But a lot of times people don't know. Like with cigarettes, people said they were unhealthy, but no one knew it was true or believed it until the real proof came out. And that is why my grandparents died, they didn't believe it was unhealthy. And when my grandma went on oxygen, thats when it hit home. And even now, people don't know everything that being overweight does to your body.
I mean, people have had many reports on how french fries are linked with breast cancer, and yet, they still eat them. I even tell people that they are, and I still eat them. Apparently deoderant is linked with it too..but I'm not quite sure how.

Eugh, I automatically tune out of anyones argument when they start talking about "tax" sorry but it's the biggest problem I can see with the system of socialist influenced capitalist democracy. Nobody has the right to mind there own business cos we are all economically bound to each other. It leads to such petty mindedness if you ask me. I'm so tempted to say Libertarianism for the win! Politically these days, but I know it wouldn't work, corporations would just rule like Gods if a Libertarian system was put into place, sighs.

Oil heated many times turns into a carcinogen...cancer fries.
But fried food is so good.
Let's all find a healthy balance.

But it is a huge part of the school curriculum now (at least is in Scotland, but we have high high high rates of obesity here) so people are aware. And the french fries etc. thing? It's not concrete proof, and it's probably quite a small percentage. You will gain weight if you overeat and do not balance it with a healthy lifestyle. You will have high cholestrol levels if you eat too many fatty foods.

Admittedly, it was a bit nit-picky, but I was just trying to make my point. It's not just tax anyway. Obesity severely affects all aspects of your life, even if you get knocked over by a car. high cholestrol is genetic. I have high cholestrol and I'm not obese Yes, in some cases it is genetic, but it is raised A LOT by fatty foods, too.
