It was on the 7th of April 2004 around 4pm. I was listening to that radio station that had started broadcasting a week earlier, and he had been invited for an acoustic set. The moderator was... yeah, Jérôme Colin! It had all been so confusing with the launching of the radio that he had in fact forgotten about Patrick Wolf coming that afternoon! It all turned into something cool and funny... He described Patrick Wolf as someone coming straight out of a Dickens book, that hooked me first, than I heard Bloodbeat, wrote the name down and ordered the Lycanthropy album! And once I had it, I could highlight it!!! (it means that I never tried to get hold on the songs not highlighted)

I first heard of Patrick on the 8th January of this year. My parents insist on listening to Radio 2 when driving me back to Uni. So we were listening to Mark Lamarr (instead of Jonathan Ross because he was on holiday or something if I remember rightly) and he played The Libertine and I really liked it. All I managed to catch at the end of the song were the words Libertine and Wolf. When I got to Exeter and looked at the tracklisting on the BBC site and then promptly ordered Lycanthropy, pre-ordered WITW and played The Libertine and To The Lighthouse videos (once I'd found them) constantly until the albums came!

i read the musikexpress (german music magazin), and there is always a cd with some songs in it... Same with me. It was the February 2005 edition and Patrick's "The libertine" was by far the most interesting song on it. So I went looking for the album ...

my ex-boyfriend reads music reviews like mad and he found one on i forget which website. some rather obscure music review american website, and he burned me about 25 cds for my birthday last may, all of music he thought i would enjoy, one of which was lycanthropy and my god! it was wonderful, and i was obsessed, so i bought wind in the wires, and after that lycanthropy, and after that every bit of patrick material i could get my hands on. woo!

a friend of mine brought wind in the wires, when she once had dinner with me. since Patrick's music is hardly backgroundmusic, I didn't really hear it well, all I remembered was a violin..
but then he was playing at the motel mozaique festival here in my hometown, and I thought I might check him out. and then magic happened. I can honestly say this gig was one of the most special moments of my life. his voice was just one of the most beautiful things ever, when he sang, just without any instruments, it sounded like a symphony or something.. I remember being completely hypnotized by penzance, a song that remains to be one of my favourites.
the shows I saw after that, including the one of last monday, couldn't top this moment. it's one of these rare special moments in one's life...sigh.

A few message boards I'm on were talking about how good he was, so I looked to somewhere to listen to him, and I couldn't find anything on the web. lol. But then a very nice girl from the U.K. sent me "The Libertine" and "Tristan" in August and I was hooked immediately. It was just so different from anything I've ever heard before. I did some searching and I came here and heard the rest of WITW and Lycanthropy on the tomlab website.
I ordered WITW through HMV and then I ordered Lycanthropy a week after that. Both CDs took about 3 weeks to get to my store between which time I was desperately waiting for them lol.
It's really odd for me to do something like that for an artist, so Patrick really hit something in me. I don't look at anything the same since I started listening to him.

Personally I blame the libertines forum for my patrick obsession, Someone posted "The Libertine" and were referencing it in some distorted rant about Peter Doherty, so I downloaded it and gave it a listen and at first It did nothing for me, so I forgot about it and when I next burnt off a cd of random songs from my harddrive "The Libertine" ended up on it.
2 months later on a rainy friday I could not find a single song to listen to and just whacked on that cd, then it hit me like a friggin' thunderbolt just how amazing he was.
and since then I haven't looked back, and I still haven't found anything else to listen to either..its pretty much all Patrick now.
and henceforth an obsession was born.

My friend Corbyn and I were chatting one misty February day, and we always recommend music to each other - usually the same thing though hehe. He sent me "Souvenirs" and I fell in love!!! That remains my favourite Patrick song to this day. I'd love to see him perform it live one day hohum... After Corbyn sent me "Souvenirs", I got a train to Glasgow at the weekend, and bought Lycanthropy. Got WITW eventually. Listened to them to death and here I am...

My friend was listing people I should listen to. Usually I smile, nod and ignore him, but the name Patrick Wolf sort of stuck in my head, so I did some listening. And it went from there.
