You tune the G down all the way to A? Surely that takes it lower in pitch than the D then? ^ thats why i didnt think mine sounded right. . . it was in DGBE before too.

I'm sorry i've been terribly wrong and confusing. Not sure what I was thinking.
Should definitely go up a tone and this shouldn't snap considering it is only a tone.
I'm highly ashamed at myself having changing the tuning on my uke like that for 2 years.
Clearly my mind was not functioning... on 2 occasions

Hello everyone! If you are interested, I have meticulously learned and transcribed the intro of Penzance, and I have copies if you want one! I played it by ear, so it's mostly very accurate. Just ignore all of the unneccessary rests! ha. If you know how it's supposed to sound, then you'll be fine. Just PM me or reply if you want a copy. ^^

I'm only an extremely casual PW fan (loved the song "Magic Position", haven't listened to virtually anything else since) but just discovered "The City" today and fell in love with it. I went looking for chords on the Internet and couldn't find any, but I found this thread and I figured I'd figure them out and post them here in case anyone else is looking:
key of G major, approx. 120ish tempo
CHORUS G .............................................. - G - B - C Won't let the city destroy our love C .............................................. - C - D - Em Won't let the city destroy my love Em Won't let no mistake take the roof from off our heads ........ Em - D No, I ........... won't let the city destroy us, won't let the city destroy our love
(Each of the chords at the end of the first two lines indicates a single note in the dotted eighth, dotted eighth, eighth rhythm at the end of every other measure that's also repeated on the drums. That last note is held through the entirety of the next line, but I repeated it at the beginning of the next line for form's sake.)
VERSES:
G - G - Em - D
(Each chord marked lasts 2 measures.)
(On the G chord, the dotted eighth, dotted eighth, eighth rhythm uses B - B - G. On the Em chord, this changes to D - D - Em. On the last measure of the D chord, the bass plays in quarter notes D - C - B - A and lands on the initial G of the next verse/chorus.)
BRIDGE:
is exactly the same as the chorus.
And the song ends on a G.
tl;dr Choruses G - C - Em - D, verses G - G - Em - D

I used to try and work out bits of PW songs at school when i was bored in music, I had a scrap of paper in my pencil case that I wrote them on. And also when I was bored at home. But I haven't done it for a couple of years, and I didn't get very far. I'm not very good at working out songs anyway, but it was fun to try @skylarky I would also love a copy (if you still have them, I see you posted that over a year ago), I used spent ages trying to work out Penzance but i'm pretty sure I got it all wrong. louisexpw On the scrap of paper I used to have in my pencilcase (which I can't believe I managed to find), I'd written "The Hazelwood - D", you can make what you want of that I don't know if I thought it was the first note, or I thought it was in that key or what... I probably just thought it sounded quite a Hazelwood-ish note. Sorry, that's all the help I can give you If anyone's interested I can post bits of songs I worked out on here (it's just odd notes and bits of introductions mostly, so probably no one cares)
