I think the only reason i looked up his music was cos i thought he was kind of attractive!!! Which is such a shallow reason to discover the least shallow musician i know of! I looked up some of his videos on youtube, and ended up really liking a few of his songs so I bought the Magic Position and Lycanthropy (then Wind In The Wires a week later). He wasn't like anything I'd ever heard, but part of me has always loved alternative music, and none of the music i like sounds anything like each other anyway! The first time I listened to his albums I thought his music was so much more meaningful and magical (i can't think of a better way to explain it!) than anything i'd heard. But then i got distracted with another band i liked, and for about 6 months i stopped listening to him very much. Then one day I was looking through the Magic Position booklet and I sort of had an epiphany - i suddenly realised how meaningful and magical and incredible it was. After that i fell so deeply in love with his music, and for nearly a year i couldn't listen to anything else. I'd listen to him for hours a day, every single song had such a special place in my heart (i hope that doesn't sound cheesy! ) And other music, especially the sort of stuff that was in the charts just seemed so shallow and same-ish and meaningless in comparison to Patrick. I basically turned into a complete music snob Then i discovered Owen Pallett, and although i didn't like his music nearly as much as Patrick's, my "music snob" side approved of him. So i'd listen to Patrick about 90% of the time and Owen 10%. Then, i can't really remember how, but gradually i came to open my mind to other music again. I realised it doesn't have to be "deep" for me to enjoy it. I'm still very particular about the music i like but i fell back in love with the bands i used to love, and discovered new bands/musicians which i also love. But nothing compares to Patrick's music, i still love him as much as ever ;D (I actually think there hasn't been i day i haven't listened to his music since about spring/summer 2009!!! I'm seeing how long i can keep it up for ) Emm... so that's the story of how i discovered Patrick's music ;D Sorry, everything i post seems to turn into an essay!

Haha i though he was quite attractive as well don't worry And i keep having little wolf-epiphanys on how much i like him (like the last gig i went to, that really made me fall in love again ;D) I am slightly mad at him for not letting me appreciate Laura Marlings music as much, and other simpler music, even though hers is amazign too! I do have phases of avoiding Patricks music though, I think i can kid myself thats its not that good and maks me too emotional about nothing Do love him though, bless him. I think last Winter i must have listened to him every day for months, he really got me through everything i hate about Winter, and i don't think i'l ever stop being thankful to him for that!

Niwo, I was SO jealous when you said how many shows you were going to! (It was lovely to meet you as well by the way! )Two were really the most I could fit in around uni, but I still came home from the Sheffield one and started Googling whether or not it was viable/possible to make any more I've definitely got worse since last week, I'm literally trying to shoehorn something Patrick-related into almost every conversation I have, haha! Frances, to reply to a post from another thread while I remember: YES I was at Sheffield with you! I was right at the front, pretty much right in front of Patrick's mike stand/to the left of the harp! Whereabouts were you? I was also the supercool kid whose entire family decided to come along with her, so if you saw a short-haired girl with her parents and brother in the queue or at the end, that probably would have been me

I'm just hoping that, if they are any shows next year, they're after the end of April when most of my work's done with! It's quite depressing reaching final year of uni and realising that, actually, not screwing your degree has to take priority over fun things... (Not that I don't love my course/uni and everything, it's just a bit scary that it's now starting to completely take over my life!)

Were you the girl that Patrick danced with? I don't really remember that many people, just a couple stand out in my mind :s I was on the far left.. just right of the speakers, wearing like a red spotty dress!

Frances: I think I probably was dancing a lot, yeah I'm probably really annoying at gigs because I can dance quite happily by myself even if no one around me's really going for, but oh well! Patrick danced with the girl two to the right of me though, sad times... But I guess I'd just met him anyway, so that was fine Niwo: I wish we could turn back time too! And that I could have made more dates like you did, haha. My family (bless them!) had such a good time at the Sheffield gig, my mum had a massive grin on her face when I caught up with her afterwards! (They all decided not to go for the front as well, they were quite happy on the raised platform thing!) It's nice that we all listen to the same things really, even if it is a little odd I did actually tell Patrick that they'd all decided to come with me at the meet and greet, and he asked if my mum had a favourite song or anything... and then I had a COMPLETE mental blank in which I forgot the name of almost every one of his songs, and had to make something up. Smoooooth

That's so cool your family like Patrick! My mum doesn't really like any music and my brother and sister have terrible taste in music! My dad actually quite likes Patrick though - he took me to the Palladium show a couple of years ago when I was too young to go to London myself, and after that he asked me to make him a CD of Patrick's music!!! ;D

well my parents are all into the typical 60s/70s stuff (which I like as well) and my mother has finally made her peace with Patrick, mainly because of Anthem (huge Cohen fan my mum), Sing ("he does have a very beautiful voice") and because I told her he had played several gigs with Patti Smith and that they are friends. lol
