Anyone seen No Country for Old Men? Don't think I've mentioned it on here. I saw it the other week because we couldn't see There Will Be Blood, it was supposed to be really good (more Tommy Lee Jones!) and kind of was but the ending was pure bollocks. It made sense, so it could have been worse, but it was really a pretty awful ending to a film. Quite intense.

I find that's the case with so many Coen Brothers films, though...

I find that's the case with so many Coen Brothers films, though... I haven't seen that many. I'm only just getting into films and understanding who makes good films, who makes bad films...my friend has influenced me and we're now hoping to become cinema bandits. I've been put on 'soundtrack patrol' duty, i.e reviewing soundtracks.

Be kind, rewind. It was pretty funny, especially when they remake ghostbusters and rush hour 2. There was some typical Gondry cinematography too

I just watched Knocked Up. So it's generic rom-com, but it had some funny moments and it was kinda cute. Also, they listened to Bright Eyes and everything worked out well in the end. Watch it if you enjoy bubblegum for the eyes, avoid it if you want a Serious Thought film.

d) All it basically was was sex, drugs, crying, drugs, sex, go and see your probation officer, cry, see your daughter, fight, sex, drugs, sex, sex, cry, get molested, sex, trying to steal your daughter, drugs and, uh, sex. YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD

Lady in the WaterNot exactly what I expected, but definitely very beautiful. I quite like the lore they used to create this movie and I was quite impressed by the acting. I've now heard and read several times, that this isn't as good as other Shyamalan movies, but I honestly wasn't expecting to see another "Sixth Sense", this is something completely different. A slightly dreamy fairytale. That's one of my favourite movies, but I've not seen his others. He wrote a children's book with almost the same story (I only know that from special features). Also, one of my favourite bands does a Bob Dylan cover during the credits.

Anyone seen No Country for Old Men? I loved that film - best Coen production ever. The bit with the door and the light made me crawl out of my seat and halfway across the floor with the tension. Saw Be Kind, Rewind today with my little bro. Everything was adorable and subtly funny and I had to rethink my "rappers should not be in films" blanket rule.

Even Cowgirls Get The Blues. I loved the book and everyone loves Gus Van Sant (although i'm always under impressed with his work) but this movie sucked sucked sucked. I hate films based on books.
slightly unrelated but i've just realized for about half the films i've seen, i can't remember how they end. thats shitty.

i've just finished watching Vanilla Sky i...actually have nothing to say except that i really liked it, although there's something that's making me want to not like it...though i haven't a clue what that is. maybe the terribly cheesy ending, the rest was very good though i thought

do read it, tom robbins is a wonderful writer. very distinctive.
I just saw The Lady Vanishes, a hitchcock from 1938, so made in england. i quite enjoyed it, i've got a collection of his early films and i'm slowly working my way through them. in parts they're a bit cheap and unrealistic, plot wise and the acting is sometimes a bit silly (in this film there was a really poorly choreographed fight, where the heroine (a brunette!) is just dancing about while these two men sort of wrestle and theres pigeons all over and a calf too and the hero's like "pull on his ears!" and i was laughing a lot... i dunno, it was funny). but they're also intentionally funny, british humour and british characters and loads of tea snorting moments in general. anyway, its got all the good hitch elements: theres the psychological thriller moments (the girl goes to sleep and when she wakes up her friend is gone and everyone denies there ever having been a friend there at all), the many many twists, the creepy frightening parts (ahhhh! i admit i jumped a couple times), etc. so, verry good.

last film i saw was the Shawshank Redemption but it was at about half 2 in the morning after having used up every ounce of energy playing manhunt and "capture the flag"
anyway, it was very good indeed although i didn't pay attention to some vital bit at the end and missed whatever it was cause i was confused for a while
but i have a question: is Tim Robbins always cast as a kind of "huh?" type character? or is that just him?

Saw Be Kind, Rewind today with my little bro. Everything was adorable and subtly funny and I had to rethink my "rappers should not be in films" blanket rule. But Mos Def is a brilliant actor. Last film I saw was Audition. Seen it many a time before, but I always get a kick out of the way it changes from the Japanese version of Sleepless In Seattle to an insane torture-horror film. I don't flinch at the ending anymore, matter of fact, I really enjoy watching it....that's not healthy is it?

I know that now! Paris, Je T'aime was the Sunday movie of choice today and I loved every bit (except the weird section with Elijah Wood and the vampire). Actually having been to Paris and seeing a lot of the places where the action was happening made me appreciate it all the more.
