this will hinge on your appreciation for classic heavy metal/stoner rock, but i'd definitely consider this GOOD, if not GOOD. i'd tailor the upload more to your tastes, but this stuff has been the only thing i've listened to for the past week so i'm feeling admittedly a little cocksure. so here's a song and an album by Witch. or maybe you might like this borrowed centro-matic link. i've been listening to it for the past 10 minutes and i suppose it's alt-country/indie rock. pretty pleasant stuff.

AHHH! i will listen to Witch tomorrow... its too late and it'll make me mad. and maybe you'd enjoy this 12 rods song more than cocteau twins: Red. maybe you already know it. if not, its not quite what it sounds like. or something... ohh witch is getting to me.

you have quite the righteous intuition there. i forgot to mention that i already have a decent amount of cocteau twins' albums, so on top of replacing your initial suggestion, you did so with a very neat song. thank you. also, i should've clarified before. the 'song' from my previous post was actually from a different album of their's, as opposed to being just a sample of the album i gave. i only make a point of this because it's, in my opinion, the best thing they've done. another thing. i'd like to recommend swirlies. you can download basically everything they've done on that site. they pretty much fall into that shoegaze/dream/noise pop category. personally i'd go with 1993 --> 1996 --> 1992....everything else is pretty difficult/bad.

thanks for all the suggestions. i enjoyed witch, the first track in particular; perfect for cleaning out my apartment today. and centro-matic are great too but i need to give them a better listen. i'm in a bit of a music rut at the moment, i don't know what i want to listen to, all i know is that it's not what i'm listening to right now, so i've been breaking out the dreampop and twee, but its not quite hitting the spot either. so i keep searching... the only thing that has blown my mind in the past month is this incredible piece by zoltan kodaly, sonata for solo cello, opus 8. here's the third movement, played by yo-yo ma, for anyone interested in classical &/or cello music. its actually best watched, on youtube, here's an excerpt of the 3rd movement, played by janos starker. the whole thing is also there, performed by fournier in the 1960s.

Cheap Time - S/T-garage punk of the fast and immensely fun variety. at least half of it is undeniably superb. Vivian Girls - S/T-noise pop/punk. easily confusable with black tambourine or tiger trap which basically means this is a perfect album.

I love the fact that you posted Vivian Girls at the same time as my good friend Krister did, although he didn't give up an album, he just praised them. Nice job, joeb. Great musics.

A Hawk and a Hacksaw and the Hun Hangar Ensemble www.mediafire.com/?m1whh0mn1zoSo this is a fine album, its only 8 tracks. If you don't know AHAAH, they're like um eastern european folk and they're great. The last track features a bagpipe.

Allison thanks for AHAAH! I've discovered them recently and they're good. I'd like to share some albums I've been lovin' muchly: www.sendspace.com/file/dwqj28There's a madman in everyone, no matter who we are There's a rapist and a Nazi living in our tiny hearts! Child pornographers and cannibals and politicians too There's someone in your head waiting to fucking strangle you! These guys are awesome. I love this album. Recommended to EVERYONE 'cause it's GREAT. www.sendspace.com/file/c2q1neYep, this is that hottie I just posted in the fit blokes thread. BUT I SWEAR I LOVED HIS MUSIC FIRST BEFORE I NOTICED HIS FITTNESS. Hah. Seriously though, I did. I think this is some really fantastic folk pop. So if you like that kinda stuff take this! Fans of Noah and the Whale and Laura Marling and the like would probably love it. I sure do. Definitely one of my favorite albums of 2008 thus far.

FORSOOTH, I HAVE RISEN TO YOUR CHALLENGE. Brigadoon and When It's Dark and It's Summer in one massive file: www.megaupload.com/?d=E5Z86S0M(I like the latter better because it's less wacky and hokey, and has a song called Dinosaurs[!!!]. Also, the first song on it is one of my favourite acoustic piles of mush.) And thank you for The Mae Shi once again. I didn't want to have to get anymore through that guy who just boasts to me how he goes out drinking with them like ALLTHETIME.

For fans of Parenthetical Girls, Dirty Projectors etc., is Au - Verbs (2008): Review: "Anyway, I digress - back to PR folks - they also send me hyperbolic blurbs about their bands. The one that accompanied the fascinating new album from Portlandfs AU is an example: Between these disparate bookends lies the staggering aesthetic expanse of Verbs-the sophomore record from acclaimed Portland, OR. experimental pop collective Au-which, in its swirling depths and subtleties, promises to be one of this yearfs most satisfying surprises. And that was just the opening paragraph. These expansive rants are rarely helpful in giving me a sense of what to expect; they inevitably never match up to my listening experience - letfs just paraphrase ebeauty lies in the eye of the beholderf into the eear of the listener.f With Verbs, Luke Wyland, the architect behind AU has managed to wrangle a rather wondrous and vast sonic landscape of an album into a cohesive musical shape and form using multiple instruments while collaborating with multiple musicians, many of whom if not all are from Portland, Oregon. I dare say that when Wyland released the debut AU album last year the comparisons to Arnold Dreyblatt, Animal Collective, Terry Riley, Steve Reich and Grizzly Bear may have been correct
On Verbs the resulting sonic landscapes remind me more of Bjork and Sigur Ros in the way multiple vocals and vocal harmonies are wrapped around eclectic beats. I hear gospel and a vaudeville element at work here especially on RR vs D which in its second half sounds like we are in a parade with a marching band or even at an old-fashioned circus. And is the hand clapping beat on RR vs D just a coincidence or is it a favorable, knowing nod to the french singer Camille who used handclaps to such great effect on her stunning song Au Port?
With AU and eVerbsf Portland can be justifiably proud - another feather in the cityfs cap. The album is released June 26th, 2008 and eRR vs. Df will be released as a 7 single on May 20. Keep up with tour dates at their MySpace page."

Jay Reatard - Blood Visionsfer Laura. Iz good. Getit. Charles Manson - LieIt's quite sad that they won't let him use any arts or crafts in prison. He was sent a guitar once and they refused to let him have that too. When you hear this you'll see why that's particularly awful. Earth - Phase 3The earlier, fuzzier material. Great. I'll bring you more that you'll actually like when I can think of it.
