Rapeman can't even be compared to the awesomeness of Shellac. All of Steve Albini's best work was via Shellac. Okay, that was a bit bullshit. Big Black have some of his best songs. But Shellac are way better...

I used to like shellac the most, at action park's got a few decent songs and is by far the best of the lot, but terraform was pretty dull apart from canada, prayer to god and watch song were good on 1000 hurts, but the new one was a pile of pish.

I listened to Shellac once. The time I spent doing that I'm sad to say I will never get back. They sound like they're "jamming" for fucks sake.
But then I have an irrational dislike for Mr Albini. But then he did produce After Murder Park by The Auteurs and Viva Last Blues by Palace Music and I have to confess Big Black where fairly awesome, still I hate the prick, don't ask me why.

Steve Albini, cute? ha theres a new one.
I guess I'm just a pop kid at heart and I'm slightly suspicious of avant garde hipsterland really. I just don't get the "yeah music sounds so much better and more REAL man if you can't make out the vocals and it sounds like its been recorded on a kiddies tape recorder we got from Argos for a fiver" but nah I'm always open to listening to different sounding things, it just seems like sometimes the Albini worshiping types can be the most musically closed minded people around. I can't be doing with musical snobbery and for some reason I associate people like Albini with music snobs. In fact I actually feel sorry for him now, my associations are not his fault ha. But then I play Rid Of Me by PJ Harvey and the hate returns. Seriously. Worst.Production Job.Ever.

I agree with rid of me, especially the title song completely ruins it, however flood did the complete opposite with is this desire so she hasnt had the best of luck with producers.

I'm put off by Shellac purely because Albini is such a misogynistic, annoying bastard. He recorded Ys though, so I can kind of forgive him. Only kind of though. Albini fans would probably be interested in this: tinyurl.com/2gcpsn

I actually only listened to Ys at first cos it was produced by Van Dyke Parks.. now theres a proper producer.
Van Dyke Parks and Steve Albini on the same record though? Joanna really is a genius to go for such a bonkers polar opposite pair of collaborators.
