This was a while ago now - I was too busy to post about it at the time and then I totally forgot... but oh my god this show was incredible! Beyond incredible!!
Finally got to hear Bitten (WITH A MUSICAL SAW!) and Trust!!! And he played Godrevy Point too (or "Godrevy Harp"
) The musical saw was just gorgeous! <3 And his sister sang in a few songs too! He played for a whole 2 hours (it flew by though!) - he got a 5 minute warning just before the encore but he said they couldn't pull the plug because they were acoustic, so he would keep playing til they dragged him off!
Here's the setlist:
Teignmouth was the most gorgeous version I've ever heard - he had the full band and the musical saw and Serafina Steer on the harp and his sister singing background vocals. There's a video of it on youtube (with Bitten afterwards!)
And Vulture... I can't even find the words to describe it - Patrick kind of went crazy on the piano (with a bit of celeste as well - it was sitting behind him so he'd turn sideways on his piano stool and play both at once!) accompanied by the musical saw... it was the most eerily beautiful thing I've ever heard <3 I don't think anybody got it on film but I have a recording of the show - I'll crop it when I get the chance so I can upload it!
And Patrick was in such a good mood, making jokes and telling stories and messing up songs
He told us a really funny story about the night he wrote London involving a pair of shoes he made out of bits of cardboard and felt sewn together (he thought if he was going to be original he had to make everything he wore himself, including his shoes!
) Oh and I managed to move from my 2nd row side-section seat to a 2nd row middle-section seat with a much better view (basically the best seat I could have without being disabled
)... it was still empty when the show was just about to start, so I couldn't let such a good seat go to waste!
And despite fearing for my life in the deserted underpass-type area at the stage door (I've never been nervous waiting at a gig before but once they'd brought out all the equipment there was not a soul around - just some skips and a car park, and I thought Patrick might be hours!), I waited long enough to see him coming out
I met Bishi too when all his friends came out! And I met his sister, she was really nice - she took my photo with him because Patrick said she was a good photographer! (I spotted his parents coming out too actually and we spotted his mum in the foyer before the show!) It was quite rushed because all his friends were with him and I think they were all on their way out somewhere, but he stayed and talked to me for a bit before they left - I won't go into details because most of it's old news but I just about managed to say/ask him everything I'd been wanting to
And he promised he'd only ever tour when it was warm from now on!
And I had lots of fun PW sightseeing the next day - listening to Bermondsey Street in Bermondsey Street, walking along the south bank listening to London, and I saw Patrick's birthplace - it's right on the south bank of the Thames, literally straight across the water from Big Ben and the houses of Parliament. The venue was just up the river from there... it was such a beautiful area - I don't think I'd been south of the river before (at least not since I was a child!)
Ok that's enough rambling now.. oh just noticed Trust hasn't been posted on here yet either - here it is
