I met 3 Italians, and 3 Germans, but no French people. I suspect there were fans from many nations. I enjoyed all the shows I went to, especially Bristol - because it was an intimate venue with good sound, and, I have to be honest, because Patrick gave me a shout out, and I met him afterwards.
Koko was a much larger venue but also an intimate gig. I started at the front, behind the barrier, but by the time many of those who had a photography pass had squeezed by me I'd been pushed in front of the barrier, but to one side by the speakers, but was unable to stand upright, leaning against some heavy curtains.
During the first couple of songs by Rowdy Superstar I had wonderful vibrations running up my right leg because of the closeness of the speakers, but decided to move before Patrick came on. I found a niche in the wall a few rows back where I could stand without being in anyone's way. I was unable to see Victoria and Nick.
Koko is special to Patrick, and it was a brilliant evening, but he, and his band and crew, gave their all at every show I went to.
(Sorry zurich80 this is not meant to be an objective review)

Koko was absolutely amazing. Maybe the most ecstatic concert I've ever been to. And I also met french people;) I'm so glad that I'm gonna see him in Cologne on monday again, because I'm home in Germany now...

Good on yer Jay. ;D I see you got 'House'. And it sounded ace too. (Youtube is my friend). Hadn't heard the last verse before. - 'Death', 'ashes', etc'. Very poignant. Definitely my current fav Patrick song.

^ didn't manage to make it to work but will still have to wait to write about the gig cos i'm all sickly and that. i totally agree with you about the drummer... he seems like a lovely enough chap but in no way is he as talented as marcelo, marcelo totally made the PW songs his own and put such a spin on them that they were like brand new songs all over again. this new drummer is very obedient to what patrick requires, i suppose, maybe it's just because he's new but there's nothing interesting about his playing.

god, i really don't know how to write a review of this, especially as it's been ages and i was quite tipsy during the gig (but when am i not?). i missed rowdy superstar so i can't possibly comment, but i'm gutted i missed him cos there's been interesting reports of his set so far.. patrick himself was, for me, on top form; the in-ear monitors are really helping him i guess, even when he had some issues with the timing on one song and had to restart it because he forgot to focus on the click-track. his voice is tremendous lately, i don't know if that's the fangirl in me talking or not but honestly, he sounds great. another thing: he is performing better on the whole. he doesn't seem drunk or distracted. he's really focused on the show and although it doesn't leave much time for the usual banter (which i miss!) it makes for a more honed PW live experience... we all know the issues with the drummer so i don't need to rehash, but from where i was standing the drumming wasn't too loud/harsh. it is obvious he's more suited to a "rock" background (or, indeed, anything that isn't as unclassifiable as PW) since he's banging away no matter what the tone of the song... it was odd him throwing drumsticks into the crowd, too. i really like the band line-up as a whole, however. there was no issues at the london gig with the saxophonist running out of breath, and we also got jo apps on back up vowels (lol) and her from sky larkin (i think?), i forget her name. that was rather wonderful. victoria as usual was fantastic, and even patrick's viola playing has improved, though maybe that's because he now has an electric, and it seems the volume for victoria's violin is up WAY higher than his viola the new songs... i wasn't too sure on slow motion, i do adore belinda sykes' vocals but on this song particularly she seems to warble on..and on...and on... and it ends up sounding really out of place and awkward. however i liked the song a lot more than the first time i heard it, so perhaps it's a grower for me. the beat/electronic stuff is pretty interesting on it. as for all the other new songs, our set was very much the same as the other gigs, and i'm a fan of the new shit. honestly that's all i can say about it. the new songs are very catchy and seem to follow a strict pop-formula, so that's getting me excited for perhaps PW seeing some commercial success finally... especially if he keeps up the good behaviour at the shows. bermondsey street is SO GOOD. and yes, i love house so much as well. good single choice in my opinion. as for older material, i believe we got godrevy point (i nearly cried, soz fangirl moment) and to the lighthouse. all in all.. 7/10

the kind of gig review that is sorely lacking around here Good stuff, thanks Jay. Nice to get a feel of the gig. Interesting point you make re Pat's viola playing. He's not bad, but when you have a titan of the instrument playing next to you, then you will always come off second best. As for him performing better, that's another interesting observation. I've seen some shambolic Pat performances, over the years, usually fuelled by copious slugs of Vodka. However, at the Manchester show Patrick stuck to bottled water and (by the look of it) Night Nurse , and whilst this made his perfomance more solid and, yes, more professional it also led to a more staid affair, more David Cameron than Klaus Nomi. Essentialy, for me, the appeal of Patrick live is that you never know what you will get on any given night. The last thing I want is him getting ill advised, overfocussed and heading off down to Pineapple. ;D
