Why?
The 'club' is basically a glorified disco, with an added live act, held in the Academy 3 which is the smallest of the Academy venues.
The last time Pat played Manchester he was in the Academy 2. A much larger room - which was full and bouncing by time he came onstage.
The Academy 3 is a big backwards step, and I suspect - nay hope - that there will be a change of venue before the big night.
Last time I went to 'club' Academy, it featured an audience of 20 people, with Emily Autumn - miming to everything, and sitting in the middle of the floor afterwards signing toy rats, whilst the bar was serving tea, coffee, orange squash, and bloody MARS BARS!
Patrick, what the hell are you doing man?

when i saw he was going to perform there it made me rather happy. i thought it was a much better choice than playing in academy 3 or 2 or anything. nobody is going to sit on the floor and it's not going to be only 20 people, i'm pretty sure it's going to be sold out. club academy is a nice small place for concerts - it's going to have a more initamte feeling than academy 2 or 3 gigs. so don't worry about the venue cause i think it's fine and the gig's going to be great anyway

Tsk. You've not really read my post have you? As I said, the last Patrick gig in Manchester was the Academy 2. It was rammed. No one was sat 'on the floor'. The Hop 'n' Grape is a backwards step. Basically, if the gig doesn't get moved, then we have to face the realisation that Patrick's star in the frozen north is waning. I don't believe it is, But Wolf's tour planner patently does.

Hi Z80 - Just checked on current Academy listings..the Stranglers are down for the main (non union building) venue, V d Graaf Generator listed under Academy 2/3 - I bet they go in 2. I agree, Club is a depressing venue - acoustically dreadful also.. my last visit was to see the Bedroom Community, which deserved far better - Nico Muhly sat next to a noisy generator (on the stage). Another unsuitable match was seeing Alec Empire there - though not many turned out - he jumped into audience after and was very sociable! Where could PW+co go? the Deaf Institute? its livelier than Acad 3 but not spacious. I guess its a cash issue - the giant venues are arena style, the smaller ones expensive (smaller stage at Lowry) - maybe we need to start a venue search agency (but will be difficult with all the H&S and neighbourhood noise issues) - what about the RNCM theatre? Owen Pallett gave a great concert there - its booked for 26 March but there might be another venue in building. What about the Dancehouse - no event listed?

Hi Whitestar.
Well, he's picked a Saturday so that will seriously hinder the venue choice. the Ritz is the best med size venue in Manc (for me, ) but he wont get that on a Sat. Moho live is a good vibe, and I LOVE the Deaf Institute, but, as an outside completely random choice, how about the Band On The Wall? Always a great small-med venue. I'd personally love to see the Wolf there. Club Academy though, well, I've seen the last 6 Patrick visits to Manchester, but I'm afraid I would be giving that one a miss.

I was gonna go to this one but it looks like tickets are sold out. I don't think it would be that bad, small gigs are sometimes good, no? I hope he does add another manchester or nearby date, or upgrade the venu or something because i want to go!! Manchester isnt really that near to me in the first place, its annoying that he isnt doing sheffield or anywhere like that. I thought Patterz was going up in the world and not down, surely he will have to move to another venue (if my computer isnt just messing up) and the tickets are gone?

Correct. The last time in Manchester he played the Academy 2. And it was rammed. I'm perplexed as to why his tour people have downgraded the venue for this visit. Page 1 of the successful guide to music career management reads - 'Cater for your audience'. Team Wolf = Epic fail.

I don't know any of the reasons behind booking with this venue, but there can be plenty of things affecting the venue an artist is playing... promoters, available evenings, tour schedule, equipment at the venue, was the artist requested by the venue etc... and don't forget stuff like artist having bad experience with certain place and not wishing to go back there and so forth.

Appreciate all that. But with respect, I've been gigging in bands AND been involved in music promotion for a good few years now, and IMHO this venue, for this artist, at this time, is wrong. Suffice to say, I will be shocked if it does not get moved.

Personally I don't mind the Club Academy as a venue, but I agree it's wrong that Wolf's playing there. My experience of Club Academy is that it's for really small bands and charity gigs. So, yeah, confused as some of you about the venue choice. On the other hand, I'm glad it's not in the Ritz {like was planned last time he came round} because it's 18+ which would suck so much for me [I'd only be 16]. I don't have much experience of venues other than the Academies apart from the Dancehouse and RNCM, but I wouldn't want him to play either of them as they're both seated which would be a bit of a bummer. Glad I saw this by the way, or I'd've waited another month or so before I ordered the tickets... and then they'd be sold out. Thanks for the warning.

I'm a bit confused.
Club Academy is not Academy 3. Club Academy is underneath the building in the basement, you get in round the back.
I do like it though, saw Tegan and Sara there a few years ago. Stage is quite small though.

The 'Club' was established first in the 'Hop n Grape' room (now the Academy 3) and was still in that area when I went to see Emily Autumn a few years back. The basement room to which you refer, may well have SINCE become the club area, but it was used in the past purely for pre gig rehearsing. Point then is: - The venue for this gig is actually smaller than I thought it was when I started this thread - subsequently vindicating my initial concerns. Still laughing Jay? Tsk tsk, FAR too easily pleased.

It is quite small, but it's a nice atmosphere in there. I'm not surprised he's playing in this venue, to be honest. I doubt he'd fill a bigger one at the moment, maybe the next tour if the album does well.

I can read and I can digest, I just respectfully disagree at this moment in time. I might be wrong, who knows, I'm never averse to being wrong, which unfortunately seems to be a trait you lack as your previous post seemed rather attacking, when all I did was point out that the venue was not where you assumed it was.
I just find it an odd stance that you would choose not to attend a gig because you don't think the venue is big enough. I'd rather attend an intimate venue and enjoy it with a small group of like minded fans that be rammed in A2 with half of the Magic Position brigade.
