This is on tomorrow night on Channel Four (I think... the official site tells you everything but when the bloody thing is actually on..)
I'm quite excited as This Is England is one of my favourite films and Jack "wrote most of the best episodes of Skins S1/2 and talks to me and Bushman on Twitter, all humble and lovely and shit" Thorne is co-writing it with Shane Meadows.
Anyone else going to be watching?

Yeah i'll be watching, I'm rather excited. It's a 4 part thing isn't it or did I just imagine that? Oh and This is England is on at 11 tonight on Channel 4 if anyone is interested in watching the film.

Why be worried? If you don't like it, just stop watching it and ignore any further plot developments, it's not going to change the film which will remain as it is forever.... unless Meadows decides to go all George Lucas and add new CGI scenes into it for the next thirty years (this is unlikely...)

you know people will tie the two together though, and they'll be linked in people's minds and treated as if it's one long continuous thing, where the film is an extended episode. also, if it's abd that's gonna fuck with the way i personally think of the film/characters etc.

Sad to say it but I thought that was a slow start. I probably need to watch it again as the adverts were more than usually distracting but it never seemed to get going. It wasn't bad at all and much of the films charm and aesthetic was translated into something that felt very much like a TV show, but compared to the big themes perfectly explored in the film it felt a bit... trivial perhaps? Hoping it's a slow burner, I think there's a fair chance it will be.

Wow it seems like everyone else loved it going from twitter.. and most people I spoke to seem to have had Sibz's apprehensive views before.
Why oh why must my opinions always be so out of step with the rest of humanity? Woe.

I missed it because it took an hour and a half to get back home on the bus, and I didn't want to spoil it by watching the last 15 minutes. So, I will watch it on 4OD maybe. But it's just not the same on a little laptop screen.

I really liked it, it was a bit different from the film but I expected that. I'm looking foward to further on in the series when Combo comes back. The opening scenes really confused me though. They obviously filmed that with the rest of the film but I was like 'Whattt?'.

I had a sneak peek and saw that. Maybe it was a deleted scene? Or at least I don't remember seeing that in the film?

I wonder how necessary it was to make a tv series out of This Is England. Like Josh says, the issues are explored in the film so well, and judging by the first episode this just seems a little bit too 'TV Drama'. I loved the Shaun/Combo father figure relationship in the film and I wonder how they'll play it out. The dynamics between those two could make or break the tv series. Combo is maybe the most interesting character, his presence could shift the narrative up a gear. I'll hang in there.

I agree Liz, while the gang are the heart of the film Combo is certainly its engine and the most interesting character.
I like that he was a person with awful views and who did awful things but still presented with humanity, which is brave. Does anyone know how much he's going to be in the series? He only appeared briefly in the trailer.
I don't mind it feeling like TV Drama.. it is TV drama but it's going to have to work hard to make say Woody and Lol's realtionship issues interesting enough to not feel trivial in contrast with the film's themes. It could really flesh out the gang though, which would add an extra dimension to the film. I hope we find out more about Smell, she's an odd one and an interesting character, I don't think it was ever fully explained why she spent the film effectively getting off with a child. There's something a bit Daisy Chainsaw era Katie Jane Garside about her.

I just went and watched this on 4OD, I’m a big fan of the movie ‘This Is England’ and anything Shane Medows, really. And I have to say it’s great! What got me the most is how much I got into it, I became so entertained I really lost the real world. I can’t wait for the next part…well all of it.
I have to admit I love ‘the girls’ too, they’re so individual, it just remind me of the first time I saw the film and wanted to be Smell! =D (exalts to Josh for ‘Katie Jane Garside’ reference!) I’m really excited as how it’s going to develop and unfold and what more can be done with the characters. Personally I would have preferred if it was released as a movie so I could watch it all at once.
