Alright, so first off, I would like to apologize for not really participating in like, 3 out of the 5 rounds we've had so far. I had been quite a busy bee with school and social activities and rather sadly I didn't have much time for private movie viewing even outside of the film club! So I feel slightly UNWORTHY or something of doin' my own round, but... I'm gonna make ya'll watch what I want ya'll to watch now anyway. And that thing I'm makin' ya'll watch is one of my Favoritest Movies Of All Time: Dazed and Confused.
I was debating between this film and other more "serious" films that are probably technically speaking better than this one, and don't get me wrong, those kinds of films are awesome - but I thought a more lighthearted film like this would be a nice contrast to the intensity of the last film that Florence chose. Ya know, just to mix things up a little bit.
Dazed and Confused is basically a teen comedy about a bunch of kids and their last day of school in 1976. Not much happens except a lot of weed, beer and a party in the woods. But beneath the surface, this film is really smart, big-hearted and quite touching. The script is just wonderful - every bit of dialogue is so REAL, and at many times REAL funny. The best thing about this film is that it is driven by an absolutely fantastic ensemble cast of characters and their feelings and interactions. As the film progresses, they all come together and they all reveal more and more about themselves. I can relate every single character to someone I know from high school, and I'm sure as you watch it you will too. To sum it all up, they always say those years are the best of your life - and I think Dazed and Confused is the one film out there that really showcases that fact for what it truly is.
Oh, and while watching, please also notice the awesome use of music in this film.
Possible points of discussion are favorite characters, relations to your own high school experiences, what this film says to you about growing up, how freakin' cool 70's cars and fashion and music were, etc. etc.
