It's taken me about four years of listening to them intermittently with a "yeah I quite like them" vibe they've some how creeped up on me and become an out and out love.
Must admit to quite a crush on Emily Haines. She's one of the few contemporary lyricists to fulfill my desire for word-smithery in song with intellectual substance and a dash of knowing humour. When you combine that with her wonderfully uninhabited and playful style as a vocalist and frontwoman you have the recipe for the textbook J-Wizzle definition of "one hell of a lady".
I think Old World Underground is probably their best album.. but I'm getting more into the latest one; Fantasies lately, initially I found it a bit Killers glossy but there's some good lowkey stuff on there that passed my attentions by.

I think Metric are alright, but I absolutely love Emily Haines' solo album and her voice (especially in Broken Social contexts).

I have no idea who Metric are, but I love Stars. emily and amy grew up together in school, learned to sing together, etc...similarish quality to their voices at times. if you like stars you should like metric methinks.

New video.
Ok, that's done it. I'm legitimately in love with Emily Haines. Also a little worried about how hot I find her in a cage to be. No wonder feminists don't like me! Erm moving swiftly on.. this is the Metric thread not the "Josh's bizarre peccadillos thread" so I'll STFU.

"Fantasies" lost my interest in them, despite "Twilight Galaxies" being super gorgeous. I'll admit I haven't given the album a fair chance, though.
The "Static Anonymity" EP will always be dear to me.

Oh I know who these are now, I saw them perform on Jools Holland. I don't like them at all. We can't agree on everything. I saw then on Jools Holland. They gave a rather "we're not taking this terribly seriously" performance that I enjoyed haha. Emily's skirt was so short it would make Amy Pond blush. I would like to point out that I heard their songs before I knew what the band members looked liked, cos I think I've perved over the singer more than I've actually commented on the music at this point. I wish there was a blushing smilie that wasn't SAD I'm not SAD, man..

^ Tom Jones was good, wasn't he? Haha. I watched for Crystal Castles' performance, which was also very good. Except the whole show went on far too late and I fell asleep half way through.

WAH. But hey, "Static Anonymity" is probably the closest they've been to adult contemporary. It is beautiful.

I tend to associate Gloria Estefan, Basia, Jewel, Sheryl Crow and Elton John with adult contemporary, but perhaps Sting is a good fit?

Static Anonymity has songs which are on Grow Up and Blow Away right? Grow Up and Blow Away and Old World Underground, Where Are You Now? are my favourite albums by them. Took me ages to get into Fantasies but it is still a rather good album.

Yup, but Grow Up and Blow Away is lacking "Siamese Cities" (my favourite from them possibly ever) and "Down" which were both a crime not to include.
