couldn't find the old thread - if there is one, although i thought i remember one that started when the Jimmy video came out. . . anyway, i just watched her Born Free music video/short film. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xD5xjahxacits graphic, intense, and there's not much of her music. i appreciate the message she's trying to send but overall it rubbed me the wrong way. i wish they hadn't put american flag patches on the arms of the 'soldiers' - its not just americans who burst into houses, and if you're gonna make it a generalized metaphor by using gingers as the 'tainted people,' go all the way and make the 'soldiers' general, too - have various nations flags as arm patches, or not have them associated with any country at all. anyway. comments on the video, or general MIA love?

I like her.. and I was going to post a thread about this video myself so great minds and all that Ali Sun.
I watched the first few minutes thinkin' this was going to be some gritty social comment and when the "punch line" hit I was lulzing away.
The song's a bit unmemorable though isn't it?

That video has been removed by the user, allison! Now I have to go ALL THE WAY to the search box and search for it, and then CLICK on the proper video link all over again. I hate you. Seriously though, this trend of having music videos twice as long as the actual song? I'm not on board. I get that they're taking advantage of the view-on-demand format the internet provides... But it doesn't play well with my ADD-internet-child self... Unless, you know, the song or video is actually really good. Oh well.

I hadn't heard of her before...I watched the video and honestly, the song is stressful and I don't really see the point she's trying to make in the video. It was just shocking and ugh. There are others ways of exposing your point of views and denouncing violence than showing violence itself. It reminded me of Justice's "Stress" video which was a bit useless.

Aw, glumbumble, I'm afraid this doesn't serve well as a first impression of MIA. She has done some very poignant and compelling stuff that's well worth checking out. This just isn't it, IMO.

I'm just waiting for this to load on Vimeo, since my friend told me today in English to watch it, and made me promise. I have to admit, I'm intrigued. I'll edit/post again with views once it is done/I get fed up with it.
Edit: So, I don't get it. I don't really know any of MIA's work, although the music to start with was pretty awesome. But the video. I don't really know what to say. I'm not horrified by it, I don't particularly like it, I don't hate it, I just think it's silly. Okay, that was an awful expression of how I'm feeling. To be quite honest, I don't really feel anything apart from that had I not been multi-tasking, I would have lost 10 minutes of my life. Meh.

This! I was pretty disapointed in the backgroundmusic for the video as well but to my surprise I woke up today humming it subcouciously. I still think its a very weak song from her but at the same time I have put her on this high pedestal where its overly easy to fall. I used to be embarrassingly fangirly back in the day, posters on walls, DIY tees, music class presentations...the whole shebang. But I lost interest when she got pregnant and popped her out a leader (ha!)

She's wicked; from Jimmy she just got better and better. I am seeing her at Underage this summer. Like the only good act there... let's hope it'll be worth it.

Okay sorry, I mean she's the only act that I've really heard of and care for there. I was well up with that 'scene' a few years ago, but with the end of my Artrocker subscription came the end of my knowledge
