Ooh were you at the Glasgow gig that was webcasted? I saw the Dublin one and it was awesome. Saw some videos of Amanda and Jason actually performing together with the dress and all and it looks super great! I like Amanda Palmer so so much, she's just amazing. I haven't heard Jason Webley's music, but he has awesome hair (very useful comment...XD). I'm going to see them in Paris (hopefully Jason and Sxip and the crew will make it...) next Tuesday! I can't wait!

Ooh were you at the Glasgow gig that was webcasted? Yup. There were forty five minutes between her arriving onstage and her actually singing a note, and she seemed to think of Skyping Jason Webley about ten minutes into that, but it was fucking immense. I'd be really interested in seeing them do it properly, though... Cheerio, Michael. xxx

Any thoughts on the ableism controversy? (For those who are unfamiliar and interested: Original critique by Annaham, bloggers respond, Amanda responds. And there's plenty more where that came from.) Note: I'm not trying to stir shit up again, and won't jump down anybody's throat, whatever their opinion. I'm just curious about how other corners of the internet feel about this.

Yeah, Amanda's from The Dresden Dolls =).
Aw yeah I read Amanda's response blog. I love how the comments are all so long... I didn't think too much about it actually because I didn't know they were pretending to be conjoined twins until I actually read more about the project on Amanda's blog. I heard the songs first and thought "hey this sounds fun" you know. Then when I heard they were pretending to be conjoined twins I thought that was probably not very necessary, but if the album is them pretending to be two conjoined sisters, why not dress up on stage. I was kind of bothered by how enthusiastic Amanda was, but it's normal, she's just made an album! But it left me kind of uncomfortable because the twins' story is a bit tragic and she's kind of making fun of it and stuff...I don't know. I know it's not in the intention to hurt, I learnt that a long time ago with the songs Amanda plays. I got past that and enjoy the music I listened to on myspace. I must admit I haven't read all the lyrics and I don't know the sisters' story entirely. I don't really know how that's going to turn out when I see it live though. I saw some videos, and thought it was ok. But, one thing that bothered me is Amanda's flinching while playing Evelyn. I know it's part of the character, but it's so....it's a bit too much. So...basically, I don't really have an opinion on it. Kind of bothered about the controversy but I can still sleep XD.
Anyway, watching the webcast now. They're playing Delilah! The girl from Bitter Ruin has a better voice tonight. Leeds United now =) I'm actually quite happy, I'd only planned on seeing her play live next Tuesday! XD

Ok I'm really really REALLY going to have to google to understand this now.
Each post I make in this thread is more pointless than the last. I don't even really like the Dresden Dolls much.

It's a really confusing issue for me. Initially I'm in the camp of people who are annoyed because they didn't know whether or not it was real for months, just that childish embarrassed sort of 'yeah well I didn't really fall for it *sticks tongue out*' sort of response. Then today I just read that disabled feminists thing first; which was a bit of a problem as the first I heard of the controversy was being told that as an 'able bodied person'* my opinion is irrelevant, uninformed and unwanted anyway. But obviously they're written their opinions so forthright...ly? that it's kind of hard to not try and form an opinion. And I'm rubbish at coming up with my own opinions anyway. Yeahhh sorry, that was no help at all.
*I don't mean putting 'able bodied person' in quotes like that to be offensive. It's just not a term I've ever actually heard in real life and I'm unsure if it's one of those things that Americans say but we don't. But I'm struggling to think of an alternative.

BEST GIG EVER. Not at all bothered by how Amanda plays Evelyn. I laughed a lot. LOVED IT. I went on stage at the end when Amanda and Jason played The Drinking Song. SO MUCH FUN. Felt dizzy after spinning more than 12 times though. Met them and they are fucking awesome. I had made a "FUCK THE ASHCLOUD" shirt for Amanda, and she wore it all evening when she met fans and signed stuff. I have the confirmation she is made of awesome. I can die happy right now. OH AND I AM ON AMANDA'S TWITTER. twitpic.com/1iwn4uThe girl in the blue shirt with a black sweatshirt is me.
