I resent being called 09 when I was CLEARLY here during the ages of old with Clare Clare Overshare etc (what happened to her?) but clearly i belong with my youthful colleages, and that is where I shall stay! Where is thornyking/Erik going? Joeb i'm assuming you're ref.. i plead ignorance to the 'facts' seeing as how i've remained unaffiliated with the majority of the names mentioned so far. so, in order to acquire the necessary data for this thread, i had to rely on the few things i depend on for all of my knowledge: oblique postulations, secondhand accounts, and unfiltered hearsay.

This might come as a surprise but I'm going to plump for the younger generation. It's only since the reformation of the forums that it's really dawned on me what a cool and diverse collection of individuals we have here for the most part. Now I'm not dissing the 07/08 period; though I'd argue the real "classic" golden period of Wolfy was very late 2006/early 2007 when Luke was nicer, Laura and Alicia posted a lot , Penrose/Trussler etc.. the forum was souring in summer 2007 with a deluge of spammy (coincidentally mainly American) posters racking up thousands of posts of prosaic inanity.. Sibz joining sorta saved the forum a bit.
By mid-2008 though the whole "cynical bordering on rude sub-4chan" thing had become the wolfboard default at the expense of other outlooks. I'd argue that the place is much more diverse now because people don't have to be as on guard for snarkers. The group has been taken over by young blood rather than the old crowd of folk, many of whom appeared to feel all grown up and sophisticated because they were living away from their parents for the first time, I'm really thankful we don't get so much of the "too good for the internet" pose anymore. I'm not going to name names and reopen long resovled tiffs but tbh I felt a bit bullied on here during that period (yes, cringesome to the max I know, but I was somewhat vulnerable and over internet-invested at the time)
Basically I think there's more differing personality types here now and more acceptance of that.
Also disagree with Sibz about the American faction of wolfy.. man our Americans are SO much better than the 07/08 batch! I feel Tara and Mimicry's contribution to the community is often overlooked. Man, I respect the hell out of those girls. To be that opinionated whilst always remaining classy and non-personal RARA ANGRY is quite achievement even if I disagree with a hell of a lot they say.
Also I think (though I'm not the one to judge) I'm less of a c-unit than I was a few years back, gained a lot of self knowledge about how other people read and can be effected by shit I say and though you wouldn't believe it going on the length and seriousness of this (I could discuss this subject all night! Wolfboard is my soap of choice) I'm less over-involved in the internet.

05-06? The AnneYgerne "how are you an aesthete?" (worst.thread.EVER) era? Or the summer 2006 "the forum is basically just me, Porky Pungle Jonny and my friend Olivia trolling and arsing around" era?

Other than Michael (obviously..) who's the longest standing wolfie still posting at the moment? It MIGHT be me, but also it might be Jess (obsesguy) I remember having a conversation with her in the reeaallyy early days before Anne had even joined (late 04/early 05) where I mocked her for going to the Download festival. When did you join Annabel?
This place was inactive when I came on, then I posted a lot, Michael made me the first mod and I proceeded to disappear for about a year... (most of 2005). Then came back as a troll that initally sparked controv but was embraced by a new breed of posters around late 06. I was kinda the Vultures of my day.

Interestingly, the first time I ever looked at this forum was 2005, but didn't join until a newly enthusiastic chool prompted me to in 07. Visions of the future.

Ahh, what do you reckon my best gimmick persona was? Big Bob the Nuts reading, Football obsessed stereotypical "lad" or Martin the 40 year old Tory history teacher? I think the second one had a lot of potential but my piss poor grammar gave it away quite early I also planned a rather un-PC Borat-esque "English is not my first language" character called Pedro.. and joined under that name but some dramarama stopped me actually doing it. I make such good use of my life.

This might come as a surprise but I'm going to plump for the younger generation. rooting for your own literal demise at the hands of rhi and co? didn't see that one coming. gonna take a dive? Basically I think there's more differing personality types here now and more acceptance of that. i actually think the lack of disagreement recently is rather strange. either people aren't very comfortable speaking their minds, don't have the energy for it, or the makeup of the board isn't as diverse as you think. i think. clearly not advocating disrespectful attitudes or drama llama, but it just feels unnaturally...pleasant and uneventful.

AND i DONE fridg ing TOLD everyone! already. this isn't a nostalgia thread per se, this is to get my adolescent kicks of smashing action figures together and going 'KA-BOOOSH !!', but instead playing with feelings, and potentially, human lives.
sorry to crush everyone's dreams and all, but you guys really need to WAKE UP.

rooting for your own literal demise at the hands of rhi and co? didn't see that one coming. gonna take a dive? It's called "passing the torch" Joeb. I'm no sad fading legend of the Ric Flair variety clinging desperately to my spot. I take the Shawn Michaels approach of taking a few years focusing on getting the young talent over before gracefully bowing out in my prime. i actually think the lack of disagreement recently is rather strange. either people aren't very comfortable speaking their minds, don't have the energy for it, or the makeup of the board isn't as diverse as you think. i think. clearly not advocating disrespectful attitudes or drama llama, but it just feels unnaturally...pleasant and uneventful. I can start calling people "queens" again if you like?

For clarity (considering this is my third account ), I joined in April 2007. I remember because it was a few weeks before Quitgate, and because I got a birthday thread after only being here two months and it made me proud This means I am currently experiencing my three-year Wolfboard anniversary! The fact that it says I joined in Jan 2010 makes me sad, but I suppose that's my punishment for being flakey. Also, the point I was going to make was that Rhi only joined a few months after me. (I just checked her profile and it says she joined a month before me But I think she lurked first). As with all of Joeb's threads, I love this, but don't really understand it. Why am I "minority chunk of florence"!? But I know I'm meant to pick a group/time to vote for, and I really don't know which to pick! I love the board at the moment. I feel like it's matured into something really special, it's almost perfectly in balance. The people at the moment are just great. Basically it's been a lot shitter than this in the recent past. But the olden days were when I made some of my best friends, and when I did actually love Patrick Wolf, so it was more exciting for me from that angle. If I could I would vote for both.

me likey! ALSO, Joeb you do get a prize for using drama llama. Your prize is a llama. Yeah, i joined and then didn't visit for ages. One day I was like 'mm, better see what's going on'. That day was Quitsgate. Josh, you are much less of a c-unit! And I love love the Americans/Canadians too! This place would be a ton less bubbly and cute without Xteenuh and Erik respectively.

Xteenuh has seen CM Punk LIVE.
You need no other reason to worship her.

I also feel the need to note that this is my second account (I fucked off for a bit a year ago, shortly after Lukegate etc, but it was because of school and timing was purely coincidence). I had joined ages before Quitsgate but never actually visited since I had a different internets home at the time. I started posting May 2007 after seeing Patrick live for the first time; I was originally kind of in that "spammy Americans" group.
I am cliqueless.

this debate is hardly spirited and worst of all hardly meanspirited. It's called "passing the torch" Joeb. I'm no sad fading legend of the Ric Flair variety clinging desperately to my spot. I take the Shawn Michaels approach of taking a few years focusing on getting the young talent over before gracefully bowing out in my prime. are you sure that's the way it's supposed to go down? i don't think that's in the javascript. [what a bad joke. definitely going to bed with a cut across my forehead tonight. that's gross and dark. oy] As with all of Joeb's threads, I love this, but don't really understand it. Why am I "minority chunk of florence"!? i think i was just trying to cancel out your above average height. yeah, it's a shame you others decided to band together because then you wouldn't have to brave the harsh elements and opposing forces to stand triumphant, you'd already be hobnobbing in the sunken treasure cove with the rest of the lone wolves.

does anyone think there will ever be another firestorm on the board again? not that i'd necessarily want one to be started, but having that general enthusiasm that makes one possible would make things feel a bit more lively.
i just don't think we can rely on patrick throwing crap at people every year to have people come out of the woodwork.

i just don't think we can rely on patrick throwing crap at people every year to have people come out of the woodwork. Personally I wanted to join before but yeah.. finally that was the reason, you're right. I regret that I didn't came here earlier. * eta: * because the date when I joined always screams 'YOU ONLY JOINED BECAUSE YOU WERE AT C/O POP!' I would have joined either way. Sure.

i obviously don't post enough to get offended by my exclusion. heh. though if you wanna talk divisiveness, how about making a topic where you list the "posters" as a grand total of 16 people? i'm sure it makes everyone feel welcome. the problem with threads like this is it makes people all too aware of the supposed cliques. just get on with it, and forget about the drama already. surely there's something to post about on the forum other than just self analytical introspection of the forum itself, even if it's light hearted.
