There's probably a thread for her somewhere but to be honest I've got not effort to look through pages. I'm listening to her new 3CD album thing, Have One On Me. Possibly 100x more rounded and listenable without skipping than her other stuff. But I always really liked her, her voice just grates on me less, it's smoother. Anyone like her?

I haven't listened a lot to the new one yet though. I don't really get the skipping thing. Have you listened to Ys? Can't skip a thing! Also, still don't get it when it comes to Milk-Eyed Mender. rar

Yeah I think it's the Milk-Eyed Mender that has some skips. I haven't listened to it for ages so I can't actually tell you which songs feel weird for me. I'm really bad at remembering song names as I never look whilst listening.
I've only listened to her new stuff once but I loved it all, however I can't remember a thing, so it'll take a while to remember them as songs as sometimes they're epically long.

I love her first two.. some of the only properly "essential" to use a cringesome turn of pharse music from the noughties. The new one however I find much less distinctive, it struggles to keep my attention, especially given the running time. There's some nice stuff on there no doubt, but I prefered her music when it was more mental and unique.. this one seems to take a lot from early Kate Bush and Joni Mitchell.
I can see why some find it more accesisable but I like unorthodox vocies, I found it one of the Newsom's OSP. But on the plus side her bum's looking pretty rad on the cover so, all is not lost.

Hahaha! And you know what when I was listening it did feel a bit 'Kate Bush' actually, I know what you mean by that. I have had another listen, it feels less like parts will stand out to be compared to her other stuff, some of her earlier songs blew me away, but this CD as a whole makes me feel good, I can just put it on and have it there and it's just all around nice. Nothing wrong with nice

Nothing wrong with nice I've spend my life in ruins because of people who are nice.. No wait, I really haven't I just have a thing for pointlessly quoting Morrissey songs at inappropriate junctures.

I've always admired Joanna Newsom more than actually enjoyed her. Peach Plum Pear has always been a favorite of mine, but other than that it's stuff I listen to because I feel like it's genius/important/whatever and can recognize that when hearing it, but not because I'm really all that into it.
I'm curious about this new album if only to see if the music reveals any evidence behind her artistic reasoning for releasing a freaking boxed-set of new material, rather than one album.

I've always admired Joanna Newsom more than actually enjoyed her. this is true for so many folks i know. they all think she's great, but they won't listen to her cause she grates... i go through phases. can't listen to her all the time, but when i'm in the mood for it, it's gorgeous stuff

Used to think I hated her, until my boyfriend made me listen to 'Emily'.

I've only really listened to Milk Eyed Mender. This is because I'm lazy. I have serious plans to listen to her new stuff though, in time.
