most of my teachers are pretty adamant about 12 point times new roman and either 1.5 or double spacing. for the few i've had who aren't, i use my beloved garamond, or georgia.
somewhat unrelated, but i feel weird when i have an assignment and the teacher is like "WHATEVS" about formatting and stuff. i also feel weird writing anything academic in first person, so philosophy essays are uncomfortable for me, haha.

appreciation: georgia tahoma arial verdana helvetica trebuchet ms akzidenz-grotesk book antiqua consolas corpid courier new (sorry!) fixedsys (strangely comforting)
condemnation: comic sans ms bradley hand curlz mt edwardian script ict (in fact, any illegible script-type font - WHAT'S THE POINT?) garamond
ohhh, god.. so many more in either category but as you can see i got to a certain letter in notepad and had enough of scrolling through fonts. i have far too many.

I only write in Times New Roman. I like it. I'm boring, yes.
Fonts are really interesting. I know in one of my courses we were reading about how you should use fonts that have the little hooks on the edges (I can't remember the term for it now) because it's easier for your eyes to follow when you read.

sometimes times new roman can look nice. i've used it for graphics in the past and liked it. i don't love it, though. just checked one of my old essays to see what i used to use... tahoma, 12pt, aligned justified with a 1.5 line spacing. noice.
haha, and the document was called 'erm care older ppl again'. shrug.

I get so bored of Times just because most professors require it for essays. Every now and then I try to change it up by using Verdana or Calibri, but I feel kind of guilty -- other fonts are usually larger than Times, and it just ends up looking like I'm trying to take up more space.
Does anyone have any favorite fonts that they've downloaded from the web? I'm always on the lookout for good ones.

I like Candara but it's not on every computer so I can't always use it.

One of my favourite free fonts is 'Complete In Him' because I see it on a billboard whilst on the bus. I use it for titles etc in essays and things.

^That's a nice font, kind of laid back. I always write my essays {mainly for English} in Book Antiqua, 10pt, normal spacing. But recently that looks big and I'm getting bored of it so I might change. Or put it in 8pt or 9pt. In general, I don't like big fonts, or any small font in more than 10pt {unless it's for a title{. I don't like my geography teacher so I once did this two pages piece of homework entirely in that downloadable 'patrick's handwriting' font. And it was orange and purkle on alternate lines, with no capitals whatsoever and not a lot of writing. I spent this gained time changing the font for every single number I wrote because there are no numbers in the 'patrick' font. It made goegraphy far more enjoyable. >=D You use Century Gothic for essays!? Yes? My friend also uses Century Gothic for everything ~ essays, powerpoint, music, etc. I like the font, but she uses it in 14pt for essays, which is horrifying.

haha complete in him is my favourite too! especially i love the <3 mark in that font. i used to collect unique fonts from dafont, but since i've got a new computer and all my previous font datas were deleted, i havent got any new ones...
btw in japanese i prefer "Osaka font," Arial in english, and Century for essays cuz it looks very smart ;D

I'm filling a chart with Trebuchet ms right now because I have to fill 10 columns on two pages (a giant chart). Other fonts are too large or when I make them smaller you can't read them anymore. eta: i love this lorem ipsum text

Like ‘courier new’ (default for notepad, right?) it feels so Notepad-nostalgic with an added sprinkling of typewriter. But my personal favourite is ‘Bookman Old Style’. I also had a version of the font the band H.I.M use once upon a time, which was a bit fancy for everyday use but I loved it! XD I’m a big fan of using caps lock, italics, underlining and bold text, despite of the font. Now THAT is styplish rebellion!
