That does sound awkward jay :s I love terms of endearment off strangers though, like shop staff and that Although I hate the word chuck. And I've hated 'baby' ever since my year 9 teacher called me 'cara baby' all the time and then everyone in the class did as well to take the piss.

i don't mind it from shop staff, funnily enough. i used to do the same when i worked in asda. you just get in that helpful cheery walmart kind of mood. (haha that made me feel so creepy, saying that. BRAINWASHED.)

What's with people who are normal heights being called short-people names? If 5'4" is now short.. jeez. and no doubt the truly short feel affronted by these developments. using their names and such. some dwarves need to stand up [despite the fact it doesn't make much of a height difference from sitting] and reclaim 'small fry' for the little people. also, i'd kinda like to go to one of those small-town diners in the south and hear 'what'll be, hon'?'

Thanks for defending us, Sasquatch. > That was a term of endearment and not intended to be offensive in the slightest. Bigfoot is a well-loved creature. I think the only time I've been called something by a stranger was when I was helping my friend put up a poster and this guy drove by whilst screaming out his window, "Yeah, you post that poster, baby!" My mom calls me "baby girl". I like to call Meryl "merylovely" and Josh generally gets called "mister". Sibz gets called Sibz because her name is obviously too endearing to be overridden by a different term... but if she's full of enthusiasm when I meet her someday, I might start calling her the dreaded "Sibzealous". No not really.

I get 'darling'd every time in the off-license now by one of the staff It doesn't sound pervy (despite the potential to) in an Indian accent for some reason. Think this song is in order too, for the thread: She belongs in the fit birds thread too imo.

I like to call some people I'm very close to honey/darling/dear/baby on rare occasions... I don't ever really get called anything similar from people I know, but I think it's probably universally annoying when waitresses, etc. use 'sweetheart' and more extreme terms of endearment. 'Hon' is okay, though.
My friend has some weird names for me, like she'll address me as 'Tara Onyx Eyes.' I just give her a look to let her know that she's not as smooth as she thinks.

i detest the term "hun" my housemate calls me "gay" i.e "what are we having for tea, gay?". i dont really mind it, as my best friend in college and i called each other "shit face" and "gayboy" and other insults in an affectionate way. i myself cant really use terms of endearment seriously, i feel silly saying them. I use "darl" and thats as far as i go. not even luke, aaron or jenn get a "babe" or "love". we all use "bbz" on texts and msn and stuff.

We (by that I mean me and my friends) also use 'gay' and various insults as affection. E.g 'alright, gay?' and 'you tit'

My grandad used to call me "love a duck" (however you're supposed to write it ) when I was little! I don't think there are any ones I particularly dislike or anything, can't think of any that I really get on a regular basis! I don't think I even use them that much apart from when I used to call my Tristan "baby"

I call people by their names or "hey, you." How darling.
Once my boyfriend called me "hon" and I burst out laughing from surprise. Shockingly, he has never called me that since. I should apologize.

oh and i forgot, i primarily call people 'bro'. i don't really use any cute names. my guy friend and i always call each other stuff like 'superstar' though, because his brain thinks of cute things. or 'bitch'. crude ones are best. I don't use any cute names either... I primarily call everyone I know "dude", "man", or, if it's a specific group of girls, I greet them with "HEY BITCHES." I'm just not a cutesy person! I can't bring myself to call people cute names, but I do really love it when people do it to me. One friend calls me "doll", another says "lovey", so I guess those are my favorites.

I don't use any cute names either... I primarily call everyone I know "man". My brother, since hanging out with his friends pretty much 24/7, has been adding 'man' onto the end of EVERY. SINGLE. SENTENCE. He sometimes even just says 'ah, man' to himself under his breath! It's quite irritating, but there are some gems, including 'mum man!' and 'dad man!'
