Meanwhile back at the ranch; Bookish really ought to publicise himself more. He seems so reclusive, poor soul. Surely self promotion is all these sort of artists do? From where I sit, he hasn't gotten by on his talent or good looks... Sub-par Pet Shop Boys rip-offs with lyrics that are never quite as funny as he thinks they are. (Whoo! Back in the knife drawer, Ms. Sharpe...) Cheerio, Michael. xxx

I dunno, I guess it's just where two of the members on the forum who don't get moist at any slightly left of center contemporary band or artists.. (cough Owen Pallet is not god, he's just moderately talented.. calm down everyone!)

Oh don't get me wrong the guys got some really good songs, but the level of adoration he gets on this forum you'd think he actually singled handily invented music or something.

Simon’s music doesn’t really do much for me. I’m never in the right mood to listen to that kind of music. It’s a mood thing. Although I really like his voice.

How can anybody rag on Simon Bookish? His music is amazing and from what I hear from my friends in London, nobody there likes it. I especially like his Franz Ferdinand remix... and the song about crabs on the lawn.
As for Owen, well, I think this whole "extremely talented" / "moderately talented" / "somewhat talented" debate has nothing to do with how wonderful his music is. And it is wonderful. His show in Toronto last night was (bar none) the best show I've ever seen. But more on that later (and in the right thread.)
Calling either of these artists "overrated" is... pointless and boring. It reminds me of school. It's not a competition, you know.

Well, I have... and I can't decide whether I like it or not... It's exciting and irritating at the same time. I like Dwarf Docmentary, Crab Lawn, A Deception and Interview, but I'm not so fond of his lack of tunes...

The production sounds pretty dull, sometimes, as if he made the entire thing in Cubase. But his monologues are so funny, it makes up for it extremely.
I must admit, the first two songs are pretty tough. It gets so beautiful immediately afterward... what's that phrase about honey before vinegar?
