Hee! Yeah, it might have been seventh grade, I don't remember. I actually saw them twice! I remember nothing of the concerts other than that I wore mascara for the first time to the second one, and that I screamed myself hoarse both times. ;D

Cool! ^^ I just realised I really like Telephone, and that the first time I watched I was so like this " " that I failed to listen to the song XD. Same thing happened to Paparazzi. I think Lady Gaga's trying to hypnotize us .

I can't believe I haven't shared my views on the Gaga phenomena with the world yet.. poor poor world.
Personally I think she has the same position and status in music/pop culture Eminem did ten years ago. Her records are very good for what they are, listened to by people outside her genres usual constituency.. she defines this moment.
However.. like the path of diminishing returns Eminems career took, I can't see her being listened to much or being all that relevant in ten years time. Nowt wrong with being ephemeral though, especially in showbiz.
Christ... Eminem to Gaga, what a 360% flip/reverse in the zeitgeist.

Nowt wrong with being ephemeral though, especially in showbiz. Eminem was button-pushing, that was his function, and it was reflected in his songs; they were less about being good songs, more about controversial lines and subject matters. Gaga is raising a lot of questions, particularly about celebrity, but once you get past that, she writes brilliant pop songs. Her production is very much of the now - it'll date, but what won't? - but people will be singing and covering her songs for a long time. (Pop librarian, I know how this shit works.) Also, she's got her pension set up in doing gay club PAs from here to the end of the world. Cheerio, Michael. xxx

At first I thought GaGa was just a plain pop singer, just like everyone else. Well, I was wrong. I think my favorite thing about her is how it's not just about the music (though she writes genious, catchy pop songs); her videos are amazing and visually fascinating, her outfits are full of imagination and her live shows seem interesting as well. I'm going to see her live in next october and I'm already excited. Yay. // genious, what the hell.

Yet I think the problem with Eminem was that he was making good songs (especially lyrics) while talking about his personal problems - mostly the ones with his mum and his on-off-wife Kim. But after three records there was hardly anything new he could say about it. And party tracks don't really suit him. It's different with Lady Gaga, since she is writing lyrics about topics that are not that easily explored and also she has raised different expectations from the beginning. So I think that it's likely she'll still sell her music in 10 years. I really like Telephone btw. But I can't stand it when a song is ripped apart too often, so I don't like to watch the video.

I think there's a futility in trying to predict longevity, and we shouldn't bother trying. I don't think Madonna was thought to be a woman who'd stick around, and here she is. Showbiz careers are unpredictable. Too many variables.
However, I do think that while her songs will sound horribly dated in 10 years, they'll still be listened to. A good song is a good song. We still listen to A-Ha's Take On Me, and Baby Love by The Supremes. Both of these songs sound very much of-their-time. We don't listen to them and think that they're a hot new track. But we do listen to them.
That said, I don't particularly like Lady Gaga beyond a few of the singles. I think she's talented, just not really my bag.

Her production is very much of the now - it'll date, but what won't? - but people will be singing and covering her songs for a long time. I agree with this. And I think that her songs really are brilliant - a lot of people think shes just pushing buttons with her image and performance pieces and videos, and she is in a lot of ways, but at the foundation shes got extraordinarily catchy pop songs with some actual interesting subject matter. Personally I think absolutely everything about her is a walking work of art, from interviews and things I've seen about her she thinks everything through and seems extremely passionate about her work and her ideas, and she is absolutely brilliant at executing them, not only through the music but through the visuals and performances, even the "persona". But she's so good at it that she isn't the persona - the persona is her and I'm so fascinated by that. She's taking pop music, pop culture and giving it some real artistic value. I think its fab that shes doing that within the realm of pop music because its getting everyone's attention. I have never really seen a pop artist do what she's doing and with such a large following behind her for it. When Just Dance came out I didn't think much of her, but I slowly started to realize what shes all about when Poker Face started to grow on me and then Bad Romance and The Fame Monster really solidified all of it for me. I watch some of her performances and I'm so fucking INSPIRED by it. Why can't pop always be like this?! Did I mention I love Lady Gaga?

a lot of people think shes just pushing buttons with her image and performance pieces and videos, and she is in a lot of ways, but at the foundation shes got extraordinarily catchy pop songs But this is the thing! Lots of people do see it that Gaga is just 'pushing buttons' to sell records, because what, because she's not conforming to the normal pretty-pretty-passive pop starlet who we're all comfortable with, see Cheryl Cole and Girls Aloud, Pixxie Lott, Taylor Swift, Little Boots, Tulisa N Dubz, Jessica Simpson, Ashlee Simpson, Kylie Manogue, Jennifer Lopez, Sugababes, Leona Lewis, predictable male audiences and impressionable little girls please buy my records, I'm-so-bored-I-could-blow-my-brains-out. She's a woman who is being as aggressive and as overtly sexual on her records as male pop & rock & rap stars have been for decades. Deal with it. (by the way, this was an attack on society, not you obviously But it's true. She's not trying to push buttons, or at least, not in a pointless or bad way, she's just doing exactly what she wants to artistically. And being met by an awful lot of "Urgh, she looks ridiculous. She looks like a man. You know she has a cock. This witch is corrupting our children," type reactions, which are just pathetic)

A girl on tumblr yesterday was saying how much she hates Gaga and her 'mainstream pop crap' music, but then proceeded to post Taylor Swift lyrics.

Haha, Anna. I see that sort of thing all the time too. I hate that "mainstream" and "commercial" have become sort of snarl-words that people use to hate on music that simply isn't suited to their taste, ignoring what the words actually mean.
Back when I was on a metal forum, people would always describe a metal band's new album as "commercial" if the poster didn't like it. The album could be comprised of 3 17-minute songs and people would still categorize it in this way if it wasn't to their taste.
Ah well. People's people.
