Err, I don't know how to start! Hah. So here's a picture: (well ripping off your thread if you don't mind Josh) It's very funny and very very sad, about a boy that lives at an old people's home (his family run it) and he's obsessed with death and ghosts and taping the sound of them dying, and then Michael Caine goes to live there and he's a proper grumpy old bugger, but they both need each other really. Here's a trailer. I think it's a good one, but it makes it look a lot more whimsical and lighthearted than it actually is, so even if you're not that keen after watching that you might still be pleasantly surprised. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pTMPnJR53wThen a couple of links on where to download/watch it. Hope you like! www.megavideo.com/?v=CREYKFBCthepiratebay.org/torrent/5113075/Is_Anybody_There__%282008%29_UK_DVDRanna peeneighdough next time

i found it quite dark, a bit shallow, kinda stale, but overall still very sweet, like... this pie brace yourselves, spoilers ahead. i really enjoyed the performances, and certain scenes really felt on the money. as an aside, i'd like to say that one aspect of life i do like is that there is no end to the warnings of how crap it's probably going to get near the end, and this movie kinda has that in spades. but while the subject matter is pretty bleak, there's enough life out of the kid and humor throughout to not really consider it a bleak film. fittingly, the plot seemed to sort of lose itself, for me, when clarence lost himself. the scenes thereafter just sort of felt unbalanced in respect to each other. i'm not sure you could say the script handed the baton to that subplot between the mum and dad --- [with both men failing at staying true, clarence's redemption for his philandering acts as a harbinger for edward's parents' marriage getting back on course...i'm not saying this as well as i'd like to, but i think you get the idea] --- which leaves it feeling a bit muddled. i did really like how that car scene played out though. i began to have a bit of a weepy there, and i'm glad that their trip to see his wife's grave wasn't for naught. i reckon what i'm trying to say is that each individual scene was good, but it lacked a little cohesion towards the end. overall, i'm not sure how much it'll stay with me, but i definitely found it worthwhile. however i'm not sure how satisfactory that slice of pie above would be.

^ I found that a really interesting post, and I'm so sorry I've made no effort with this thread but something's come up that I didn't expect. So again I'm really really sorry and I'll hopefully post later tonight

good thing there was a low budget on this flick since the first week returns seem pretty paltry.

I've watched most of it (damn you Megavideo!) and I'm really really liking it, it's quite a feel good film (although I haven't got to the end yet..). There's not much that I can pick out in terms of symbolism and all that, but I think that's a really good thing, because it gives it that child-like, simplistic feel. I think there is a nice link between the kind of 'God's waiting room' thing and Edward's fascination with ghosts

I will remember that in the coming week Sibz, thanks. Just watched the end. Oh my goddd such a weepy one! I cried all the way from the grave bit pretty much to the end. Really sweet, and honest, I think. The badger bit was just genius! Not as cheesy as there being something on the tape or whatever, just a nice little moment. I loved the soundtrack too, and as a rule I thought the child acting was good too! I only really good the deeper meaning of the title at the end. It's not 'is anybody there?' looking for an answer, it's 'IS anybody there?' as a querie. Very good choice, cherry pies. eta: i did really like how that car scene played out though. i began to have a bit of a weepy there, and i'm glad that their trip to see his wife's grave wasn't for naught.] This was probably my favourite scene. So sweet and a teeny bit bizarre

I'm part way through the film and I haven't read any of this thread yet but he's going to get his finger sliced off, he's going to get his finger sliced off, he's going to get his finger sliced off, eww eww I don't want to watch! edit - Holy shit he got his finger sliced off! Urgh. As well as that ^ bit being really predictable, the fact that she was going on a date with the dad was really obvious too, but it was still sweet. I agree very much with Joeb's post, in that the individual scenes were great (there's lots of comedy can be made out of an 'old persons home scenario', and they used it well), but all together as a film it wasn't quite as complete as it could have been. For some reason I thought "An old person and a young person please" was the cutest line, when they got on the bus. Don't know why. Also Joeb, that looks like refrigerator cake which is YUMMY. I only really good the deeper meaning of the title at the end. It's not 'is anybody there?' looking for an answer, it's 'IS anybody there?' as a querie. Very good choice, cherry pies. I've read this several times but I don't understand
