Same as before, send me you top ten albums of the years 1990-1999 in order and good things will happen.
Also, hopefully Josh will moan less this time.

See, 00s I can't do a list cos I have to struggle to think of ten.
90s I can't do a list cos there's JUST TOO MANY AMAZING ALBUMS.
I envy all those who didn't live though the golden age of artistic endeavor.

I know what you mean, so many masterpieces. I'm excited for this one, and predict the Spice Girls will score high, along with Neutral Milk Hotel.

I LOVE YOU JESUS CHRIST.... AND ALSO MAMA. As for things I love.. at the moment it's mainly the fact that I actually already DID manage to moan in this thread and Sibz's GOLD SCOOL sig quote.

wat. 2000s > 90s for music imo. For me, the 90s was a low point of modern music.

Well, now that I've compiled my list I realise that the 90s was actually pretty good, regardless of what I've just said. But I think the 2000s win just because there has been so much music about, and obviously quite a lot of it is good.

I'll have to make a list of all the albums I like which I think might be from the '90s, and then go through checking them on wikipedia (being too young in the late nineties/early noughties to really keep track of time). But I am excited about this. edit - I'm struggling to choose which Mariah Carey album to include Um, yeah - do we rank them? Or just choose ten?

But I think the 2000s win just because there has been so much music about, and obviously quite a lot of it is good. Quality not quantity. 00's the decade of a deluge of musical niches. Everyone was just in their own little box, hidding from the wider outside world in 00s. Music seemed to matter more in 90s somehow. I do think downloading, streaming has devalued music a bit and I'm a huge advocate of both. Just when I was young an album was hard to come by (15 squid! Or wait till it comes into the library/you can tape it off a mate) so somehow you seemed to treasure it more. Music just feels disposable now. It feels like there's so much stuff out there that it's common place and even a chore.

I agree with that. I remember even when I got into music, around 11/12 it was so much more of a big deal to own an album. I used to go down to Virgin and obsessively compare and contrast albums in the 3 for a tenner section and spend my pocket money there. I found loads of good bands that way, and if it turned out I didn't like an album... Well I didn't have that many so I listened to it until I liked it Now I can just download an album on a whim and have it immediately and never even listen to it if I so choose. My 12 year old self would be impressed and confused I think. Rambleramble olden days.

I think the 00s were the end of the popular musical era that began with Elvis, and was whacked into place by The Beatles. Don't get me wrong there's shitloads of pop, rock and "alternative" music out there, more than ever. But it's a selective minority niche interest now like classical or jazz. The days of pop music as a universal defining generational force is over.
That's why I like the 90s, it was the big party at the end of the pop/rock'n'roll era, lobbing all the best bits of the previous 40 years into a big melting pot.

I would say the 90s were pretty poor compared to most decades to be honest. 70s and 80s shits all over the 90s.

I LOVE YOU JESUS CHRIST.... AND ALSO MAMA. Not a collaboration between those two bands, but a very interesting song cover no less - The Spice Girls "Wannabe" sung duet style by Amelia Fletcher (Talulah Gosh/Heavenly/Marine Research/Tender Trap/Sportique etc) and Calvin Johnson (Cool Rays, Beat Happening, The Go Team, Dub Narcotic Sound System, and The Halo Benders.). How's that for a nineties song? P.S. I am looking forward to attempting to compile a list for this. Quite a bit of good stuff during the 90s. For example the three first Belle and Sebastian albums...

Name some awesome tunes from the 1880s please! I've been listening to that Ravel dude quite a bit lately, but he didn't even start until the (18)90s, so I'd like to further my awesome tune-collection.

I would say the 90s were pretty poor compared to most decades to be honest. 70s and 80s shits all over the 90s. The eighties? the decade of shitty dated drum machines and fretless basses all over everything? The Seventies with the beards and excessive soloing? Nah, man.
